If I'm not mistaken....legendary conductor Sir Georg Solti (who was currently music director of Chicago Symphony Orchestra until 1991) saw that premiere 1974 film "Mahler" - his life and his symphonic music. Solti was very proud of that film and Mahler symphonies. Leonard Bernstein saw that film too.

The sound being out of synch only really becomes distracting when it results in Mahler and Alma giving furious downbeats on beat 2 of the landler.
