I was In this era..and never became a 'hippie'...my mom says I was more bohemian..laid back w/o the drugs....btw: let's not talk about the 21st century he he...love love this era and this song!
Actually, I think the original four performed together in 1997 when they were inducted into the Rock and Rroll Hall of Fame. Forgot about that. So the Tribeca fundraiser was the second time in 40 years that they performed together. Felix lives in Nashville now and still tours. In fact, he is going to be in Vegas this Friday. You can find his full tour schedule on his website.
Where's Felix? Well, the original four stopped performing together in 1970. Dino and Gene later formed the New Rascals, and Felix formed Felix Cavaliere's Rascals. Dino, Gene, and Felix reunited briefly in the late 80s, but Eddie didn't join them and wasn't interested in doing a reunion tour. However, the 4 of them performed together in 2010 at a fundraiser in Tribeca at Stevie Van Zandt's request. First time in 40 years. There are clips of the show floating around the net and on You Tube.
Nice clip, but that's definitely not Felix Cavaliere. In fact, I heard a radio interview where Felix was complaining that the New Rascals had "some bald guy" that everybody thought was him. Eddie sang the lead on their ballads, but Felix sang the lead on Groovin', It's a Beautiful Mornin', I've Been Lonely Too Long, and Good Lovin'. Eddie had a smooth voice (check out How can I Be Sure), but Felix had that rough, throaty, sexy sound. Still does, in fact.
This is not the Young Rascals....this is the Rascals....the new band. Felix aint here...a nice song, a nice try, but there aint nothing like the real thing ...baby.
It was great to be alive at this time, not so good now cos if you were alive like me at this time you must be in your 60s now. but dont worry we will soon be dead. :-) lol
there are some songs in history that are just PERFECT and NEVER get old but only better. THIS is one of those songs. It was way before my time, but i remember my grandmother playing this song on saturday mornings as she fixed brekfast and read the paper. NOTHING but TERRIFIC memories!
fd4519.fantástica música,eu toquei este som na batera,década de 60.Obrigado por vocês existirem e deixarem este som marcado definitivamente no som pop que alegrou vários corações e encantou o mundo.Parabéns.
Love this song. Yes I remember Leslie Uggams Show. She was also the one who played Kizzy in Roots. Very good actress. This song really makes me relax.
Gene and maybe Dino are the only two Rascals in this version. The Rascals never used a bassist onstage either. Felix would play bass on the organ with his feet ala Ray of the Doors. Leslie was a reference to Leslie West who was a friend of the band from their shuffling days on Long Island. Some day I'll post why Felix got the vocals on most of their hits instead of Eddie.
remember daytona trips in 67, 68 to see uncle tom at the motel and the basketball games in the gheto? How about lunch at the Fatman's all you can eat chicken joint? Boys that all you can eat.....
@bostonirishpunk wow...SO funny u mentioned that!! AM radio late at night... back then there was ONLY one earplug...LOL and listening to this music with covers over your head... so RIGHT...best times when growing up...nice to remember things like that.......
@BITEBOYBAND Uh, no. Felix sang lead on Groovin'. I'm 51 years old, and i've been listening to The Rascals since i was seven. Felix and Eddie have distinctly different voices. Eddie sang lead on two hits: I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore and How Can I Be Sure. If yo need further proof, check the Groovin' album; it lists the lead singer on each track.
@tomrom7 you are so RIGHT!.. I am 55 years old, saw them a number of times... Eddie NEVER sang Groovin... Felix all the way.. also, theres a lot of people who think Felix sang " you and me and Leslie... Dont know if people remember a singer named Leslie Uggams... well she had a music special on TV, late 60's ... Rascals were on and Felix ACTUALLY sang " you and me and Leslie".. .Leslie smiled, was a nice ad-lib moment.....Felix AND Eddie were grinning too, knowing they surprised her......
Who are these guys? That's not Felix on keys - I think Eddie sang the song anyway. That looks like Gene on harp, but not from 60s, maybe the 80s. Where's Dino? Who are these guys?
@BITEBOYBAND Its Gene and Dino with a Bass player and an organist sound alike that has been touring with Dino and Gene for a long time and they put on a better Rascals show than the one with Felix and nobody else. This was recorded in approx 2006 and they still tour. Catch them as The New Rascals if you can find them. Very worthwhile covers of their originals.
I hate to say it brentsexy but why in the hell would you want to associate yourself with hippies?
first, they were dirty, second they had no respect for anyone, military ,police parents including and third it produced the likes of saul alynski ,bill ayers and charles manson..
I'd rather be a conservative with respect for my elders wearing a suit and tie as was so popular from the turn of the century until liberalism started 1967ish.. don't be a liberal it's disgusting..
I wish Felix produced the supergroup Cream but this new radical rascal guy has a good voice but it lacks the coolness of Felix's. I am not into soul music unless it's the 60s but this song just lacks a certain soul. They found a guy with a voice close to Felix's but they missed that he sucks.

If you disagree; you were't around then. and at age 21, I paid cash for a new car, got a house in Vancouver for $2000 down f.p. 18,000. 1966, great year. Today nobody buys a house for 2 years income. Unemployment has always been with is . so have opportunities for them with ambition
@hotmn4u OK so you steal BMW's and sleep on the beach. Got ya. OBTW I ahve spend a few winters in LaJolla, just in case you think we are all paupers who live in igloos. do you know wherre Vancouver is? Makes LA and Southern Cal look totally Ugly (except when it rains, which is 80-100 days a year)
@hotmn4u Yeah, not like today with it's drive by shootings, teen suicides, gangster rap, terrorism, total moral depravity, homos adopting your children ... man, it was a slice of paradise. ASK ANYONE WHO IS OVER 60
wow...this song always reminded me of a girl named Leslie in junior high school...you and me "endlessly" makes a lot of sense...doesn't take away from the greatness of the song.
people , people stop bickering about whose better and whose best..this is just pop music after all and many artists summed up facets of what the 60s were about.....i love them all........the rascals lps were spotty but they made great material throughout thier whole career....... few 60s artists sing as good as felix today.........hey, best unknown cut by any band: the song 'deaths reply' from SEE: sounds like motown meets saucerful of secret era pink floyd......someone post it, please.
my dad always tells me when he was boot camp in the marines in 67 he had this on a 45 and played all the time and so the guys got fed up with the song and they took it from him and he never saw it again
that type of music ..was very 60`s... and to me summed up the 60`s this actual group only had 2 songs!! beatles and rolling stones were big groups then .. still are really!!
'67, I was 13. We sang this and "It's a Beautiful Morning" walking to the bus from school. With all the mess going on and the hopes and fears I have for my grandchildren, I can play this, and many others from this time, and tell them; there is GOD.
I was 3...humm. They played it for a very long time, cuz I remember it. and It's a Beautiful Morning." My brain cells are glad I missed out on the full 60s experience.
my sister was living in new york in '67 still is,i would have loved to have experienced the hippy stuff, although i did see a bit of it in central park in 1970,abeit the tail end of it,good tho'
omg! i love this song!!! its been a good few years searching for this song. haha i heard this wen i was 8 which was like 2002. reminds me of my first love haha idk why. just has a beautiful feeling to it =]]]]]]]]]
i'm from the north east u.s.a. there is an old saying what would the spring be with out the winter. you know roughin it out till spring. this song is beautful it reminds me when people get spring fever and the sun start to shin all day and a beautiful breeze blows. and you feel just like groovin. love all . thanks for the video.

Question is: is Leslie a man or a woman?
000266617 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Umm maybe the fact that he said "a girl named leslie" is a hint fucktard.

people , people stop bickering about whose better and whose best..this is just pop music after all and many artists summed up facets of what the 60s were about.....i love them all........the rascals lps were spotty but they made great material throughout thier whole career....... few 60s artists sing as good as felix today.........hey, best unknown cut by any band: the song 'deaths reply' from SEE: sounds like motown meets saucerful of secret era pink floyd......someone post it, please.

'67, I was 13. We sang this and "It's a Beautiful Morning" walking to the bus from school. With all the mess going on and the hopes and fears I have for my grandchildren, I can play this, and many others from this time, and tell them; there is GOD.
elaineDPW 2 years ago
I was 3...humm. They played it for a very long time, cuz I remember it. and It's a Beautiful Morning." My brain cells are glad I missed out on the full 60s experience.
