  • hhahahahhahah the title contradicts bobby!!!

  • Serendipity is a very american word

  • i have this movie on vhs along with samson and sally, seabert, and scamper the penguin. those movies were my childhood :D

  • I remember that I had it as a child too ... and I couldn't find it for really long time...

  • i sing this song all the time now that ive seen this and remembered my childhood lol what's little on top and big in the middle and pink all over?

btw, 15 people were so amazed to discover this old, awesome video that tears formed in their eyes and they accidentally clicked dislike.

  • Oh my god I must have been a 4 year old last I saw this.

  • Not to be confused with Dragon Pink.

  • My favourite cartoon when I was a kid! Ah, memories!

  • my nostalgia boner popped real hard over this !! so many flashbacks of being a little kid!!

  • I never saw this movie but I remember having story books about unicorns and sheep and this pink dinosaur was a character logo drawn on the back of those books.

  • O.O There was a book I had where the dragon looked like that! HOLY CRAP! *CHILDHOOD REAWAKENED!*

  • @tokyogirl345 - You're probably thinking of the book 'Serendipity', that this is based off of. I love the Serendipity books.

  • Weren't there books also called Serendipity?

  • @RaineSageRocks - Yup. One of the first books was called Serendipity, and that gave the name to the full series.

  • i watched this serial in the early 90s, it was my favourite! i just couldn't recall the name...

but in germany it had the original japanese opening theme melody with a german song text...

i've been looking for this for so long... :-)

  • *Sigh* Remember the good ole days when this, Scamper, The Ketchup Vampires, The Magic Forest, The Secret of the Seal and Fuufer were amazingly cool to watch? God I loved this videos to pieces. They just don't make 'em like they used too. Funny how I remembered this song's lyrics at 22 when I haven't watched it since I was probably 7 or 8 lol. Good times...Gooood times ^_^

  • This was the first movie I ever owned and watched regularly as a child. I am now a legit otaku. Coincidence? I think not.

  • dear god its real

  • aww I remember watching this when I was...... 4...

  • @MajeticOcean yes yes yes! my best friend and i used to act out scenes from that, i was always snowflake! also the "we gotta get away" song still pops into my head outta nowhere

  • I loved this movie, I've been trying to find it for years!!! <3

  • I never knew thye had a cartoon!! :O

I used to love the book when I was little bitty :D

  • @MajeticOcean Oh! I LOVE that movie! I remember watching it a lot when I was a kid! I think I still have it somewhere actually!

  • i think i just died a little inside....

  • A pink Lapras!

    Those are rare!

  • Serendipity is in fact a dinosaur, though she doesn't quite match any known types (elasmosaurus is closest).

I remember the original books from 30+ years ago, before this anime was made. The confusion is because she was declared a dragon in Japan, and the title didn't get changed back when it was translated to English.

The author of the original books is Stephen Cosgrove, or Washington State.

  • @MajeticOcean I know riiighhht?

  • WIN!

  • oh man i remember i was so wittle

  • OMG! Anyone remember the mermaid princess? I used to get so angry at her when I was a kid for making those poor creatures cry for her and being upset about the boy living there. I think there's a part where she says she doesnt want him to live there any longer. Mean mermaid!! >:(

  • Oh the ad for this is on a VHS copy I have of a movie called Scamper :D

  • My mom worked hard to give me the whole book series when I was little & I've treasured it ever since. I still have the whole set, waiting in storage for the someday when I have little ones of my own to share it with. :) It's got some of my most treasured childhood stories in it, and I just learned today that there was an anime of it. So cool! I'd love to find more of the English-dubbed show!

  • I remember this one! I was looking for this one!

  • Wow... think that that was the most traumatizing 1 minute and 6 seconds of my life. It was just...I have no words to describe it. And what the heck is up with the pink thing? The title says dragon, but the song says dinosaur; which is it?

  • i loevvved this movie so much as a little girl!

  • LOLZ to the comment box!!!! loved this movie soooooo much!!!!!!

  • Respond to this video... i absolutely LOVED this movie i didn't even know it was anime or know what anime was at 5...us now i love anime thanks

  • Sweet Lord! I haven't seen nor heard this show in almost 20 years and I still have that song haunting the corridors of my memory! Could only be more nostalgic if they had that infernal Happy Ness show I also watched as a kid on YouTube which I don't think they do.......FOR NOSTALGIA! *goes hunting for another piece of his childhood*

  • Holy cow, been trying to find Serendipity for forever.

  • Omg I feel like crying this song was sooo precious to me as a kid... OMG I LOVE YOU " JUST FOR KIDS HOME VIDEOS"!!!!

  • OMG I watched this in kindergarten!! i love this! i think this is what got me into anime 0.o

  • Omg. I remember this. This was my favorite thing to watch when I was a kid! :D

  • I have one or two episodes of this on VHS. In future it will have some VALUE!

  • @Unicornus33: Is it Happy Ness?

  • @RsLocket i think so. thank you.

  • One of my favorite childdhood movies! I wanted to go to Paradise Island so badly as a kid. D:

  • i am trying to figure out the name of a cartoon i used to watch in the 90's. i thought this was it, but its not. it involved a bunch of little water dragons that look a lot like serendipity in different pastel colors. im not sure, but it may have been on pbs. if anyone knows, please tell me. thanks.

  • @unicornus33 you mean dragon tales?

  • @loveliesdiva thanks for responding. no, its not dragon tales that im thinking of. i would call them a "my little pony version" of a plesiosaurus. maybe they werent on pbs, but i wouldn't know what else they were on. it was a girly cartoon. i will be 24 this month, and i remember this from elementary school. it was a cartoon series.

  • @unicornus33 @unicornus33 Oh my god, I've been looking for the same thing for YEARS now but no one has any idea what I'm talking about D:

If you happen to find out the name of it, please let me know!

  • @xmournerslament thank goodness! i was beginning to think i dreamed the whole thing up. I am no closer to learning the name of the show or even for certain what network it was on. i found out that there was a series of books and a tv show about serendipity, but the cartoon i remember was not anime. and it was about a whole bunch of the water dragonish things. If you remember any details at all please let me know : )

  • @unicornus33 is it dink the little dinosaur?

  • @kct16 no. thanks for your help though.

  • @xmournerslament people have suggested a show called happy ness : secret of the loch. i thinks its it. things arent the way you remember them as kids. tell me what you think.

  • @unicornus33 Sounds like the show Happy Ness: Secret of the Loch, about abunch of Loch Ness... =)

  • @shemightbedani i think that might be it. thank you.

  • i had this on tape when i was little and it was accidentally given away and i have been looking for it on dvd for soo long!

  • This cartoon was my FAVORITE growing up. That and Scamper the penguin.

  • yeah the theme song has been stuck in my head for 18 years

  • She's not a dinosaur or a dragon, she is a serendipity, her own species.

  • I loved the books but I never knew they made a cartoon.

  • I can't believe I found this ^.^

  • When I was little I always thought the beginning went "What's pink on top and pink in the middle and pink all over?"

And I'd always be like YOU IDIOTS SHE'S GOT GREEN ON TOP

  • "Takawo" Watanabe?! WHAT THE HELL?! It's Takeo Watanabe.

    Jesus.

  • Oh god i didn't want to remember this shit

  • Gah! I remember I had this movie when I was tiny and loved watching it, but I don't remember anything from it!

    That's a real shame.

  • @AntauriWolfTheSecond Same here! And the song just popped into my head a few days ago!

  • @Morty2264

    hhahaahahah mee too:)

  • freaky looking movie....

  • Serendipity: a big word I knew as a very young child. Classic! :-)

  • Wow, such memories!! I remember my mom bought this movie for us out of a catalog! We loved it. :)

  • Ridculously nostalgic. I was so crazy about this movie....awe...

  • I wish I still had my tape. Dx

    I remember this, lol. Awesome : P

  • omg, I didn't realize this show was REAL! :O I thought I must have imagined it.

  • OMFG I STILL HAVE THIS VIDEO!! XD

  • I never knew that there was a show! Thats wicked!

  • OMG, I used to ADORE this movie when I was little! I used to make my grandparents rent it at Blockbuster every time I visited them! XD

  • i have this movie on VHS...wonder if it still works o.o

hm...oh well...i miss this movie lotz X3 loved it as a kid

  • To all those who loved and still love this movie like I do, it has been uploaded here on Youtube. I've watched almost one dozen times now

  • I found a VHS of this movie in a box and showed it to my little brother. I love this movie, and it brings back so many memories.. it's such a great film! I miss when all children's movies were like this. D:

  • lol wtf...???

    were those singing mountains???

  • I love this song. And the show, I loved it when I was younger and I still love it. When I was little I would go to the Hollywood Video every month to rent it, Then they took it out of their stock-market and I would go there every week to see if it was there because I had no idea it meant they wouldn't have it again. This brings back a lot of memories.. Even though I haven't seen it in a very long long time as soon as I heard the melody of the song It all came back. Every voice and heart forever!

  • OH MAN! I had forgotten about those little things drinking the rain.

  • I remember this movie! It was one of my favorites as a 6 year old boy.

It's really a shame that they don't kids movies like this anymore. Now its all Child Protection crap.

  • @infinitlycool What does this have to do with child protection? 0_0

  • It doesn't with this movie. What I'm saying is that over the past recent years we've been having these really crappy kids shows and movies. Think about the movies back in the 80s and 90s such as "The Land Before Time" and "An American Tail". Remember how those movie touch our hearts? Hollywood doesn't do them like that anymore. Now it's all celebrity based, and they got all these rules now about how kids movies should be portrayed. Such as, "Oh, you can't show violence to children".

  • @infinitlycool I don't know. I mean, back in the 80s and around the 90s, cartoons were EXTREMELY limited that any form of violence made a show cancelled or a movie heavily edited that hardly any deaths could be portrayed. Films like land before time are very rare during those times to have a sad scene of a mother dying to protect her child.

  • Which is why those movies were so special to us as kids. The story in those movies was real and believable. You see, movies like this back then were based on good morale and doing the right thing. Now, kids and young people look at that and go, "Pfft! That's so old school! That's so uncool!" Now, we've got this belief that goes, "You got to be a celebrity in order to be something!" Which is why Disney Channel has all those stupid celebrity shows. All I can say is, "Why?"

  • @infinitlycool Now, there's more violence in cartoons and it's not as limited... but the problem is the animation is not as "fluent" and I suppose it's not as "pure" in a sense. But I didn't know animated films were celebrity based... interesting.

  • Continuing what I said before, "Why do you have to be a celebrity? Why can't you just be yourself?" The old Disney animation classics and some of the Pixar movies follow those old traditions, but since 2003 it's been fading away. No one seems to care anymore about making good films. They only care about making money and entertaining the audience.

  • @ObscuroSknim1234 Animation has had it's up and downs as all films do. Some animation is both dark and violent, but they've never gone to the extreme. Try watching Pinocchio and the Empire of the Night, that will give you good example of what I'm talking about, and why the Child Protection Agency has gotten so ridiculous strict, because they're so overprotective.

  • @infinitlycool Oh... those Disney shows... Yes, I had been wondering about that and thought it was strange Disney was doing that. But you have to remember Disney's not the only company to make those shows. There are still plenty of animations out there that have good morale. You just have to find it since it may not be as "famous" that everyone would know about it.

  • @ObscuroSknim1234 In fact I think the object of morale may have gone up these current days, since I see that more in animation these days that I did back then (most shows back then were more goofy and few had moral). The difference is Disney is... a bit off with showing these many celebrity shows that I thought was bull. But I've given up on disney and moved on some time ago.

  • @ObscuroSknim1234 Plus, with animation being less costly, there are bound to be far more animated shows and series. I can't think of any at the moment that have good morale since my head's a bit tired, but I know they're out there and in production now. Just gotta not expect too much from Disney and look to other places I guess ^^

  • @ObscuroSknim1234 Which goes along with my point. Kids and young people prefer these stupid celebrity shows which essentially has no meaning over the animation shows that do mean something. The thing is, everything is so politicized now that it's gotten down to "You can't show anything that's offensive, unless it's concentrated toward the evil white man." Now that tell me that's not one of the most stupidest and the most racist rules you ever heard.

  • @infinitlycool I can't tell you it's not one of the most stupidest and most racist rules because it does sound like it's one of the most stupidest and racial words....

I don't know. I think you have a point, but at the same time you could be over-exaggerating. There have been many terrible celebrity shows, as you said, but in the animation business that's not very broad. There are some pretty good animated shows out there in which the main angatonist is not a "white man"

  • @ObscuroSknim1234 You just gotta stop listening to the over-mediated shows like the one's you mentioned, and look to the animated shows that do show good quality and morale that are still being broad-casted.

Disney had one of the few good morale shows and movies I saw as a kid. These days Disney's changed. But the old Disney and their films have influened other animators and companies to create good "morale" shows and not one that's useless or unappreciated.

  • @ObscuroSknim1234 Two things. One: I'm not really over-exaggerating, I'm just speaking out of common sense. I could be wrong about a thing or two, but anyone else with common sense would say the same thing. Two: I agree that there's still some good animation shows out there today but they're not as good as many older ones and they're often mixed with CGI than just straight animation, not that there's anything wrong with that, it just takes away the magic of animation.

  • @ObscuroSknim1234 Another thing you have to look at is that certain people take things too seriously. Whenever there's a joke that revolves around them, they tend to think it's racist, even though there's nothing racist about it and it's not really meant to insult anyone. It's, simply put, a joke! I mean, how many people you know have made jokes about your mom and such, you usually joke with them back, right? Why do you think Mel Brooks stop making movies years ago? It's because of this BS!

  • @infinitlycool I'm not really sure about that. I don't follow gossip too much with famous people 'cause they don't interest me ^^"

It is true that people are a bit... radical about their views. But hey, nothings ever perfect. Just gotta move and, like Disney did when he started his company, follow your own pursuits and your own beliefs if it makes you happy.

  • @infinitlycool Gah, I agree ¬_¬

  • My God, this song has haunted my brain for YEARS!!!

  • I loved this when I was Little...

Now I MUST buy this for my 2 daughters!

  • this cartoon made a huge impact in my life when i was in my childhood. im 21 now and watched it when i was bout 8 and im thinking of getting a tatto. ill decide at 26 :)

  • Hahahaha, that's a brilliant idea XD Everyone who saw this movie seems to rediscover it years later and realize they have pretty much ALL of it still memorized in the back of their minds. A testament to how good of a kids' movie it actually is, I think.

  • Wow, I knew I saw a cartoon with a pink dragon. I finally remembered when I was looking up books written by Stephen Cosgrove who wrote Serendipity--the name finally just snapped back into my memory

  • Someone has to pay....WITH BLOOD

    Same here! O:

I didn't know about anime at the time, and now it seems obvious that this was a anime. xD

  • I feel kind of old all the sudden myself . lol

Well it was this and Little Nemo (Adventures in Slumberland) that I had on VHS when I was younger...

  • I remember I would rent this from the library when I was little I loved this movie! That was about 14yrs ago now and I still remember the opening :p

This was just deja vu yesterday to me 0_0

My little sister used to watch this

  • Didn't like the kid's parents die in some horrible accident at the beginning? Like an ice berg or something? I thought the kid got orphaned....seems to happen in almost every kid movie.

  • he got thrown off the boat and woke up on an iceburg... that later melted in tropical waters to uncover a frozen pliesiasaur.

  • THANKS so much for the stroll down Memory Lane. My mother, who just

passed away used to play this for me

    Thank you :)

  • i remember this

  • lol i totally had this movie when i was a kid

  • funny how those frog-things like to catch bird-shit in their mouths LOL

  • Wasn't she from like a set of books about morals and stuff?

  • Ya! I totally remember having one of those books. I can't remember what it was about, but I remember I loved it and red it over and over when I was like 3. Loved that dumb dinosaur/dragon. XD

  • I had one about a mouse. It copied off the old "Grasshopper and the Ant" fable.

  • So this means "Serendipity" replaces "My Neighbor Totoro" when I mention the first anime I watched?

I have the tape but I think it has a lot of static because I watched it honestly over a hundred time many many years ago.

*** Someone please tell me where to find the original opening****

  • i say the song is lying. a pink dragon is way cooler than a pink dinasour.

  • I never knew this was an anime. I knew it as a book...an american book..

  • Same here. I remember the books pretty well, but I've only ever seen the movie.

  • oh man

this was my absolute favorite when I was little.

had no idea it was anime though haha

guess I was doomed to be an otaku from the start. xD

  • The amusing part is that the anime was based on a series of books written by a man born in the US.

  • This was my favorite cartoon as a kid. They had it at the movie rental place near my house, and I would rent this most of the time. It's not there anymore, but I did find it at a thrifty store and I have it now. :)

I didn't know it was an anime until about 4 years ago. Then I thought, "Wow, I really was raised on Anime..."

  • ^^ One of my faves as a kid. ♥ This brings back memories!

Oh gawd, now I want to see what the original Japanese opening is like.

  • Scratch that last comment. I just found the original and the english is better. The original is an assault on my ears! *clings to dub version*

  • I wish I knew where it was.... xD I suddenly wanna watch it. And I'm singing the song in the chatroom I'm currently in!!! Bwahahaha!!!

  • I would have been more than glad to list ALL this movie on youtube....However I do not have it on a dvd and my dvd recorder is messed up............so....to be honest I would be glad to see all of this movie. I have it on tape but ide hafe to get out the vhs player.

  • This should get a blu-ray release....but i seriously doubt it.

  • I love the fuzzy wuzzy rain dancers....lol

  • I always wanted them to decide if she was a dinosaur or dragon!!

This was my favorite video when I was little!!

  • I use to rent this video all the time. This, the witches, the little mermaid, rainbow brite....lol

  • I have the tape of this....I loved it as a kid and I ended up buying it from my local movie store when she got rid of it.

  • ha i have this on video, my cousin gave it to me when i was about 3 and she is like 8 years older than me, has been watched so many times im afraid to watch it anymore incase it brakes lol

  • I loved this show sooo much, I wish someone could uplad episodes, I miss thissooo much ^^
