@MrBiblethmpr Hell we don't have to drill for it anymore, there was a process developed to turn waste into oil and fuel that is being experimented with now that really works. The waste gases from the process can fuel the plant and produce a fuel that can be used in any car or truck. Get our good ole federal government out of the freaking way and let progress continue !

The real problem with oil is that more of the world is using it as population still is increasing EXPONENTIALLY. 30 years ago, there were just 2 billion people. Now there is 6 1/2 billion. Population isnt expected to level off until we hit 12 billion. All of these people are either using oil or want to.

Ever decade we use more oil than all previous decades combined. Wrap your head around that statement. Some experts believe we are at the mid point of the age of oil, that we have used half. If that is correct then we have just ten years left. We could stretch it to 20 or maybe even 30, but basically, the party is over. Finito.

I never intended to bash you. I just don't think people get the issues, especially when it comes to overpopulation. We got to this point BECAUSE of cheap oil. And when it runs out, we are gonna have a rough time feeding all these people. The politicians won't touch the issue because of the bible thumpers & other religions. This is tragic. If we don't start planning TODAY, a lot of very bad things will likely happen. Alternative energy is part of the fix.

The only problem is the extreme cost of solar panels. In theory a lot of domestic electric power can come from solar panels, but with a payback time of over 20 years vs 'standard' electricity people chose the cheap and dirty option.

Where did you get the statistic of 20 years to pay back the cost of installing solar panels? That implies 20 years of utility bills equals installing solar panels. I don't find that fact anywhere, and I've looked.
