  • This song makes me want to fly a plane drunk too!

  • 1st song i ever bought in the uk amazing

  • my grandma just told me that when she was younger, she and her husband (yes it lasted for over 60 years :') went to this place, and each time they'd go they'd play this song on the jukebox ♥ I played this song in front of her and she started crying.

  • Gotta love the Boeing 707 :)

  • this is a Bernini sculpture of a song, its perfection...

  • How can the video have color? :O

  • @electro5 The video was made for Scopitone video juke boxes in France. All the Scopitone videos were in colour (although a lot of them have faded since then). Colour film was already commonplace in the early sixties.

  • fab! i didn't knew that the fagen song was a cover!

  • @pontello3 Me neither, till recently. More interestingly, though is how Fagen changed it for his version.

  • Berlusconi song

  • originally Clyde McPhatter and the Drifters song

Now it's one of my favs.

  • this is by far my favorite video on the internet, i think 3,000 of these views are by me.

  • Dion has a glass of champagne, next thing ya know, he's flying the damn plane! Those really WERE the days...LOL...Now a training video for Northwest Airlines.

  • Love love love :D

  • He isnt really flying, look at 1:48. The airplane window rolls down! or he opens the door in flight. no way thats possible

  • Um look at 1:15. Why in the hell does the airplane have windshield wipers?!

  • @Vyder19 Hey DUMB ASS, first of all, jumbo jets like that fly at 30-40,000 feet ABOVE THE CLOUDS! So, it doesn't rain on them.. stupid. And, when your flying 600 MPH rain doesn't stick to the windshield. It doesn't stick to my windshield going 65 on the highway.

  • @Vyder19 I am sure there is, but when you are going 600 miles per hour, the wiper motor isn't strong enough to come back down, that doesn't even make sense. Water would just FLY off.. The airplane windshields are designed for that. Water doesn't stick to my dodge ram going 70, so going 10 times that, it wouldn't be noticeable.

  • @Vyder19 No, its just the fact that there wasn't MTV in the 60s, so when artist did make music videos, they were cheap. I doubt he really took off. The beginning of this he is on AIR FRANCE. Why?

  • @Rare92Mustang He's on Air France because this is a Scopitone Juke Box Film, and Scopitone was a French company. Many acts shot films for Scopitone juke boxes, but very few recorded their big hits in that format ~ this is the biggest hit bar goers had to choose from.

  • @Rare92Mustang

Well the wiper will be useful when you try to landing during rain.

  • @Rare92Mustang For use on the taxiway in rain.

  • 707s were Hott Schitt in '63...Now they're museum pieces....Wow. Still a majestic sight, however. Remember when people dressed up like they were going to church to fly somewhere, as it was a VERY Big Deal ?

  • i grew up listening to this kind of music as my dad was working on his old cars in the garage. this guy still making records? yeah CD's records? this music is great!!

  • each time i go back to school n visit my teacher he sings me this song...since my name is RUBY..lol

theres a few other songs out there...

    =)

  • Will somebody PLEASE post Donal Fagan's version of this song? It's from his Nightfly CD, and was the first time I ever heard this song. Dion's is the coolest version, BTW, but Donald's was the best cover of it, ever!

And, yes, Dion here looks just like the actor from The Mentalist, Simon Baker!

  • Dion was the real deal. Success with the Belmonts then as a solo artist. His songs where unique for the time. Dona, Dian where great. He became a minister. Did Abraham,Martin and John years later. Early in his carieer He would sing on the streets. One time he was at our school at night when it was closed. Bunch of us were drunk and singing together. A regular guy. No ego nut.

  • @ whatever30345: Interesting info! I love to know the background stories. Thanks for that.

  • Fabulous !

    Hey, hey !

  • Love this song. I want to name my daughter Ruby. I think it's such a pretty name. :)

  • @xbellabebex I think naming you dd, Ruby is great. I always think of a VERY confident, beautiful girl, when I think of "Ruby." Everyone will be able to pronounce it, spell it and remember it, and there won't be six other "Rubys" in her class. LOL

  • Exactely! Haha, you took the words right outta my mouth. :)

  • Now I had heard this was the very first music video..18 years before MTV!!

  • Seeing this and remembering makes me almost wanna cry. Dion was one of the greats, I did'nt even know that he came from my niegborhood in the bronx until lately!

  • Ok this 50s rocknroll&doo wop historian will tell you. RUBY BABY is dions greatest song. thats debatable yes as dio had mANY IMMORTAL SONGS but he was sexy in his voice to women , the lyrics here just liston. i loved it in 63 and still do now. This song keeps us forever young. Dion maybe you gone way of the church but your songs will outlive us all. God bless you, this song RUBY BABY and all us who love great music. Im history like these songs. TOMK Ruby Baby when will you be mine.YEah Right

  • Drinking and flying. Hey hey!

  • Dion was the first to make "mtv" style videos, Beatles, eat your hearts out!

  • dion reminds me of Simon Baker. the mentalist. LOL

  • This is so cute, yet so weird at the same time!

  • yeah weird is the word xD... why is he in a plane? :-S

  • Dion was a huge star in the 50's and 60's, so I think it is showing him being treated like that, with having the plane to himself.

  • At time this vid. would have been made (1962) many artists would be under contract, partly, to different companies (a little after this Beatles & Supremes did cut radio commercials for various different products such as Coke) -- it was a way to help pay for careers which could be up & down -- especially in late 1950's into 1970's. Dion probably was under some contact to one of the airlines -- & also decided to cut this essentially an early music promo vid probably for said airline.

  • Also, this was still during time period when artists would have to do this, be under contract to said company to do commercials & such if only because during the time don't forget that many artists weren't even able to get royalities. Beatles & many of the other British invasion artists followed by Motown artists would start to change that as they demanded royalities. I'm also forgetting Gary Lewis (of & the Playboys) cut ads for "Kellogg's" & Jeannie C. Riley for "Plantation" potato chips.

  • you're 96 years old and posting comments on youtube how is that lol

  • It's that new fangled medicine them doctors keep putting out! I'm the coolest granny you'll ever meet online or anywhere!

  • I wish I could give you ten of them Green thumbs up's!

  • Believe it or not I heard this song for the first time two days ago! It's awesome!

  • This was a scopitone

  • EPIC song and video. More than enough 707 for this airplane enthusiast to withstand LOL!

  • Cool song by Dion

  • i sware most of these views are from me, i watch this shit like every day, dion is my hero

  • the other half must be by me! lol i agree dion is the best!!

  • Many thanks for this Great video from Dion!

Ruby Baby one of my Fav songs from Dion!

  • Fantastic Song and Video Thanx for Posting ! TCB Danny

  • I do believe that the plane is a Boeing 707.

Not sure if it's a stretch version.
