  • Sister your videos help me out so much, I am now starting to do my own locks, thank you so much for being such a honest humble person and sharing your lovely stories, much more success to you and your boyfriend. your the best i recommend since Oprah is off air now, you take your own tv show!!! bless

  • @empreshershey you're too sweet. thank you so much!

  • Love your locs, and you sound just like Alicia Silverstone! Ha!

  • hey chesca,i know its a bit off topic, but watching this video something came to my mind

so i just wanted to ask how you feel about caucasian peaple with locs?(like me

very often it happens that colored people walk to me on the street and want to touch my hair or tell me how they like it,and all that kind stuff that i really appreciate

but sometimes they just stare in a angry/uncomfortable way-and i always wondered what they are thinking

i never had chance to ask what was wrong

    what do you think?

  • @papprolle i'm sorry to hear that people have behaved that way. that's totally uncalled for. in my opinion, it's just hair! a lot of people incorrectly assume/believe that locs belong to african american people, when in reality, they don't. locs have been worn in many cultures including asians and hindus. and because of that incorrect belief, some people see caucasians wearing locs as "stealing their culture". for me, my personal experience/connection to my hair isn't threatened by anyone else

  • @papprolle i say, do whatever makes you happy! thanks for sharing your experience. i hope it's more positive in the future.

  • When I first went natural I had no clue that there was this whole natural hair culture. I didn't realize that there were products and videos..etc.. I cut all of my hair off because I was pissed that the market by my house stocked all the black hair products on the bottom shelf.. lol.. It was pretty shocking because my whole life I've had long relaxed hair. I still looked good though!

  • @BlueLiminality thank you for this wonderful comment. i completely agree and appreciate your honesty. i hope things have turned around for you and found what you need to make you happy

  • Love who and what you are and the hater can go get lost! xoxo

  • Damn, Saxy deleted her video :/ I wanna see it.

  • @babyfacedstar i know. bummer :( i think she was getting a lot of hate mail.

  • @chescaleigh Oh, that's too bad..well thank you for at least keeping your video up!

  • locs can't b a fad. u know why? Because a trend is easily had. locs r not easily had. they must b cultivated and believed in. Alot of locs r cut prematurely, because the wearer can not beleive in what they can not c. maturity.

  • This is REALLY interesting, especially the point about not being able to get a job based on your hairstyle. I have been growing locs for 4 years now and I can't remember a time when I thought or have had someone say to me " you won't be able to get a job bc of those locs." However, I have on more than one occasion heard someone refer to the "ugly stage" of growing natural hair. What the F is that? I dont remember an ugly stage of my hair growth but I guess that is abt personal security.

  • @boogiedownbrown1976 thanks! i agree, i've never had a problem getting a job because of my locs, but that might be because i'm in a creative industry (graphic arts) and my hair is long and many people don't know i have locs. this video is kinda old, so i don't remember my exact words, but when i first started my locs i went through an "ugly stage" where my hair wasn't really loc'd yet and wasn't long enough to style. so that was tough but i got through it. everyone's hair and experience is diff

  • So, not sure if anyone has said this (they probably have) but, regardless of the reason we go natural, the journey itself quickly becomes genuine and non-superficial for many of us....if simply obtaining a look was the motivation. People should do what makes them happy, like you said, as long as it doesn't harm anyone. Great response; very well said.

    Peace

  • this is so funny, i had the same feeling when i cut off my hair, it took me years to transition because i kept going back and forth i would grow it out with braids them wear it as an afro for a while. Going natural for me was the healthiest thing in the world, not only because i had lupus, but because my skin seemed to calm down immediately!! Going natural is the best thing for each individual who wishes to tr it, but its a lot more damn work than i expected. Thanks for sharing

  • Great vid! I think natural hair is about time. but I'm not opposed to processed. Do you!

  • Great video! I wish I could see this video everybody's been talking about! Why did the creator take it down? I feel cheated somehow because I feel like I haven't gotten "the whole story" here. With that said...I've noticed more folk going natural. I never really thought about it as being a fad. But so what if it is? Like Crow says, "If it makes YOU happy..."

  • (sorry my comment is so long) but i started to loc my hair in October 27, 2006...so this october will be 4yrs now i have my lovely lady locs... and i'm still loving my hair and how free it is from all the damaging chemials... also its even longer now than when i had all the perms, weaves and even braids.... so i really dont pay attention to comments about hair being natural.... When are you going to put up more hair tutorials??? Love the ones you have up so far.. bless!!

  • For 1 I love natural hair currently my hair is loc... i decided to go natural because i couldn't bother with the perm, the braids or the weaves.. it just wasnt me...i did all those hair stylist because for 1 i thought natural hair(at the time was lame) and i wanted to fit in. But i came to realization that i wasn't being myself with the process hair, fake braids and weaveS.. Thats not clearly not me, those hair style didnt match my personality which is that i'm a natural person..

  • i love ur locs

  • i love the approach....give ups to someone before giving your 2 cents....i do that too

  • I can't watch past 4:51 which is when you start talking about self marketing :( ugh youtube can be frustrating.

  • Pretty much people are entitled to their own opinion.

A lot of companies sell us the same ideas about beauty...we eat it up

blah blah... people need to chill out and just enjoy loving themselves more.

And you want to tweak a eyebrow wax here and a new hair style over there then do it. Natural hair is a beautiful thing. I would probably be biased in saying that, since I am natural. People are always going to hate, judge, twist words, become jealous, and do stupid things. That's life, unfortunately.

  • @Pieisforme agreed!

  • i love the way you work by that i mean not promoting things that you do not believe in.....keep up the good work

  • Awesome response.

  • I'd love to tell you what I think, but Asxygurl8 took the original video down. :( Nevertheless, I think having more Black people go natural is a beautiful thing. I myself have been transitioning for nearly 2 months. I have never had the opportunity to see my natural hair because my Mom relaxed it when I was in elementary. I'm just tired of damaged frizzy thin hair, sore scalp, and being broke trying to meet the social standards of modern society. Being Natural is normal NOT a fad!

  • @erickadw1 Very nicely said, and very true.

  • It's weird to call it a fad...because 99% of the world wears their hair in its natural state. Only with the Black community is it associated with some sort of social stigma.

  • @uhhdeeuhh...Preach!!

  • First off I love your video. As I said before under other vids, I'm all for doing whatever you do with your hair, relax them, loc them wether you have straight or kinky hair, dye them, curl them, whatever. What is disturbing is calling the natural STATE of our hair a "fad". I agree with you that the afro was a fad, but it was the HAIRSTYLE that was a fad, not the kinks themselves. Being natural (locs, fro, twists...) is not a FAD, that's like saying indians rocking their hair straight is a fad.

  • at 2:19 i gree with you. i decided to get dreads and my sisters was all about tearing them down. saying they looked ugly and its not right for me and everything. we are biracial so have always had our natural hair ad i think thats the thing that bothered her was that i didnt have the curly hair anymore and changed it to dreads but i feel so much better within my self about my hair.

  • lol, my mother told me the same thing about my hair. She was like, "The reason you can't find a job is because you won't straighten your hair! Just straighten it for the interview!" Well, I was determined to prove her wrong and I found a job a month after she said that crap. Now she's starting to give me compliments about my hair, smh.

  • Loved your points starting at 7:19 - I think she should continue to make videos, because it's women like her, and you, that inspired me to go natural. For me, I had to SEE what I could look like, and my options, before I did it. I was on a site I LOVED and stopped posting because of some mean people. But I just started posting again last week. There will ALWAYS be people like that out there, so I can let them stop me from what I enjoy doing.

  • very cool vid. I like some of sheryl crow's music, but not that quote. It comes off a bit shallow. if something makes you happy... it very well could be bad. aka ignorance is bliss, (therefore happiness can lead to some pretty crazy life blunders or atrocities.) One should be very wise about what makes them happy. Not quoting the Buddha exactly, but that's where I'm coming from. BTW, this is not on the subject of the vid. more on the quote you are using as the premise for your comments.

  • I could not have said it better myself. Thank you Chescalocs. I can't wait to be locked. I am rocking kinky twist right now, having a ball just getting up and going when I want. Take care.

  • I agree with you...Thumbs up. I am don't care what people think of me.

  • natral hair is a movement not a fadd dread or die

  • you r so insightful

  • Great video!! Do I have an Obession with Natural hair? NO. Do I think its a trend that will eventually fade a way? No. Did I go Natural to get in touch with my blackness? No.Being Natural is not that serious to me..Being Natural is one thing out of many that makes me feel good about my self...I agree..Do what makes you happy in this life if some one dont like it thats on them..Do you and I will Do me..:)Thanks for the response..good insight..

  • I agree with you- now send me that cute necklace!!! lol

  • @mochamom2 anthropologie on sale!

  • @chescalocs That necklace is extraordinarily beautiful thanks for pointing that out. Oh and I agree with everything you said on the video too. Keep up the good and hilarious work Queen. I tell you, you sound like you really do commercial work. Shalom and Elohim bless

  • @NananomNsamanfo i'm sorry! ignorance and bigotry isn't allowed on my page :( so to help with this difficult transition, i've gone ahead and blocked you for your own good. but please don't let this keep you from subscribing, watching or hating on my videos! just remember you'll no longer be able to comment or spew your hatred on my page. in the end, i'm just protecting you from making yourself look like an ass in front of my subscribers. you're welcome and best of luck to you!

  • @chescalocs Lol that was an extremely funny retort you made. As long as you have TRUE love and not a love based off pretense or prejudice, then by all means its from the Most High. I agree people that make comments like that, without even knowing the full situation is extremely bad and represents exaxtly what that person purports to hate (the irony I know). However as you seem to be a very enlightened and beautiful person there are many in our community who feel not good enough in those cases.

  • @truthegreat thanks :) if pat and i didn't have the right intentions going into this relationship, we wouldn't have lasted a day, let alone almost 5 years. i'm very happy and so blessed to have him in my life. race has never been an issue for either of us and doesn't have any bearing on how we feel for one another. thanks for your kind words and for lookin out

  • @chescalocs haha..that was the best way to respond to ignorance! With pure kindness! I try to tell people this all the time! Being ignorant along with them totally want work!

  • @chescalocs LOL! That's what America is about - protection of the ignorant :) <3 your locs

  • @chescalocs I like this responds.... too funny...can't wait to share it .

  • @NananomNsamanfo oh her bf is a devil. she takes massa's seed up in her coloured puss. THANKS and god bless

  • @NananomNsamanfo Oh honey, he is not the devil, but you'll do until the real one gets here.

  • Great vid nd valid points

  • Well-said, love! Dig u like a grave!! :-)

  • You're a really strong woman. Thanks for being as honest as you are. I can't wait for your next comedy sketch!!!

  • i agree with you in part... but doing some things that may make a person happy (the implants, the hair, whatever) may just be a cover for deeper psychological issues. that's an issue to consider but yeh it's the person's business what they do.

As for the hair. yeh it's a fad & i love it! it makes me feel trendy & proud of myself for doing this my whole life (and before it was popular). Plus, I feel like i have "support" when i see ALL the vids on youtube. Great ideas and entertainment!

  • @debbertz Ha! That's what I said though...."losing 50lbs might not solve the problem though and you realize there are other issues"

  • amen sis! i should do a response as well.

  • @pheonixphire pLEASE dO!!!!

  • hey do you have any suggestions if some of your locs are breaking at the ends?

  • gorgeous girl, gorgeous thoughts, gorgeous video

  • Gorgeous girl, gorgeous thoughts and gorgeous video.

  • great job

  • You're cooler than a polar bear's tonails girl! I love that you made this video.

  • Thanks for the vid response Chesalocs, I appreciate it.

  • @saxygurl8 anytime girl :) thanks for being you!

  • i feel you i talked about that relationships check that out

  • 1. i love that sheryl crow quote.

    2. natural hair is a fad right now, but i think its a great one! it sucks that many of us women were never given the opportunity to learn about our hair in its natural state. it sucks that we have to "go natural"...we should be natural in the 1st place! afterall...ITS NATURAL!! LOL! i am in no way opposed to permed hair or using products to achieve a certain look, but i think that we need to learn to love ourselves as we are.

    3. gimme that necklace!!!

  • Great video. I watched her video first and responded. My focus was on the need for us to learn and be inspired by people on YT as we go on the journey of learning about our hair. Going natural does make you deal with other aspects in your life. I want to grow in many areas along with my hair change. I don't think any style has made me as happy as having locs'. I love them and look forward to many years of enjoying them and I needed people like you to watch during the harder stages.

  • Amen!!!

  • I think that anyone that chooses a natural hair style is doing a good thing. The motivation is not relevant. I believe less chemicals is the way to go because of the MAYBE harmful effects. I think you are right, and if one likes a style or trend they should feel free to embrace it. I think saxygurl8 is being judgemental. What gives other people the right to judge others that are not doing something harmful to themselves or others. I just don't get it.

  • To ME, when someone switches up what they share, do or say to appease the few folk that are cantankerous, thas punishing the majority of folks who subscribe to support you. Ok, so i just watched the original video and she just seems really dejected and tired of some of what she she sees...and i can understand that. I dont know too much about the PJism, but hey its gonna happen, you cant control that. Only thing she can control is what she puts out and if she decides to stop, thas on her.

  • ok, i just watched your video first and wanted to comment real quick before watching the other video. I justed to wanted to say "CHURCH!" to errything you mentioned in this video especially the part about switching up what you do all because what others may or may not be saying about you. Nothing turns me off faster from someone's youtube channel and/or blog than when they get upset at what ONE or a FEW people said about them and then they decide to switch things up.

  • When people make videos like sexygurl sometimes I think they're a little jealous of people with natural hair and wish they had the courage to do it. They feel the need to defend their chemically treated hair. Otherwise, what's the point of even making this an issue? If it's a fad, how does it effect your life? Crocs were a big fad, so were Ed Hardy shirts, Von Dutch hats, etc. No one is going to make a video about it though. How can it be a fad to wear your hair as it grows anyway?

  • @new211

She IS natural. She has been natural all her life

  • Natural hair is a MOVEMENT!!!

I feel more pride than ever before just by having my hair the way it was meant to grow. It's liberating. Especially when you're able to ignore all the negativity that comes with it from others... Sometimes even from your own family. Much respect girl!

P.S you're one of the reasons I decided to dread up in the first place.. Much appreciated and stop ignoring the boys we like styles too!!!!

  • I absolutely loved this video that you did. I've never really watched your videos before [sorry] . I think I may have seen one but that was pretty much it. Anyway, you bring up some very interesting points in this video. I'm so glad that I watched it, I'll be sure to watch more videos from now on. Oh and your locs look beautiful :]

  • natural hair is def a fad. its not neccessarily a bad thing. wats bad is that the mindsets of ppl going natural are not changing.

  • @nemicouture I don't see how wearing hair the way it grows out of our scalp can be a fad. Every other race does it.

  • Execellent!

  • Great video Chesca (locs and leigh)! I agree with a lot of your comments in this video. I have received a series of comments and negativity from my family with various hair decisions I have made. When I did the big chop in 05 my family and friends thought I was crazy, said I didn't look as pretty. Then they liked it. When I decided to loc my hair (by then my hair was past my shoulders and natural) my mom and sound family members and friends were REALLY bothered. I say do you and be happy.

  • I am in love with that necklace!!

  • i disagree with saxygurl so much. i dont think natural hair is a fad. its a revolution. i dont think that one day everyone will get bored and decide to relax their natural hair. i think that instead of criticizing the situation, we should embrace it.

  • @OverXposedKC91 and if they do decide to relax their hair, who cares!? relaxers aren't for me, but i try not to pass judgment on how anyone else wears their hair. we all have to do what's best for ourselves

  • I love my locs. I loved my natural pre-loc-ed hair too.

  • I think natural hair is a choice and individual choice just as it was a choice to relax our hair and or press our hair with hot combs. THe choice is who u r inside and that surfaces to the outside which is the choice to go natural. When we look at ourselves we should be happy with what we see, not with what one thinks or says. I was one who had a afro in the 70's retired and went all natural. I dont color my gray hair either. love me keep up the great converstions ladies of YOU Tube

  • Great video Chescaleigh. I totally agree with you on the hair and relationship tip!!! People are great judgemental and most critical of others and I think you must be totally confident in yourself , your relationship and who and what you are all about and you will find others opinions are just that and that your happiness starts and ends with you. I love your style and personality and you bring so much talent to YouTube. Thxs 4 sharing, much love!!!!

  • Can I just say that you are unbelievably eloquent? It's sooo refreshing.

  • @sista005 thank you thank you!

  • also i found myself when i was relaxed goin to everybodys youtube pg, bhm, lchf, fotki and the beauty supply store everyday.!!! Its crazi i am obsessed n been like it for 2 yrs. I think u shud jus take wat works for u n do it. But i guess the obsession lies in finding the 'PERFECT" product. But yes cut it grow it loc it cut it off again it grows n grows we gota stop it lol!! But at the end of the day it IS a womans peroggative on wat she wants to do to her hair

  • this is sooo true!! My sis is an actress and she wore her natural hair to an audition for the first time. And her agent was like yeahhh i like it thats "in" now. It was a burden lifted that she cud b her but damn our hair is seasonal one day its in one day its not? thas effed up. But anywhoo it is jus hair

    shamia3121 10 minutes ago

  • great response and thanks for bringing up the youtube sponsorship...I tell ppl all the time do what makes you happy and because someone say use a product doesnt mean you have to, its just advertisement in a different form...

  • @luvshea agreed. that's a big part of why i don't really advertise products or support one more than the other because i'm not and never have been a "product junkie". i don't like to spend money on products because i've never found that one thing works more than another or makes my hair "better". and i think there are better things to spend my money on. some of those products are expensive!

  • also...I think Kaya was just emphatically agreeing with you...;)

  • I love the honesty of this video and saxygurl8's. I agree about the product pushing, being a natural gal myself I run into this on Youtube a lot. "Oh I LOVE XYZ Product!" and pushing it ad nauseam, and I wonder if it's genuine or for the cash. Being natural I've experienced the "backlash"... (my mom "what happened to my daughter?" upon my Big Chop) and it made me realize that I need to be confident in who I am and it's only hair and that goes for a lot of things in my life. ack im out of words!

  • @MicroKitty amen. i give props to anyone who puts up a video and expresses their opinion. even if i don't agree with it. that step takes balls. hence why so many people hate and hate on youtube but don't have videos! i like that you mention being confident in who you are once you realized that people (and family) might not like your natural hair. for me, that's the first step of going natural which erases the "fad" in my mind

  • You make so many valid points. Natural hair being or not being a "fad" shouldn't determine if a person should do it. Some people have been natural for years. I don't think they'll stop now that more people are doing it. A person will never achieve ANYTHING if they start/stop because of others and what they do. Take the salt w/ the sweet and be the best "YOU" you can be. Great vid. Now that i'm all worked up I'll do a video response to get what this box can't fit out. LOL!!!!

  • Natural hair being a fad is an oxymoron. I love your take on things. You can't control what people think so why try? Just be happy with yourself. I wish more people really understood this. Audre Lorde said it best, "If you don't define yourself for yourself, then you'll be crushed into other people's fantasies of you and eaten alive." That's the realest statement I've ever heard.

  • Good vid, great comments and advice. ;)

  • (part 2) she seems like a very intelligent person but is frustrated because everyone chose to go natural and she felt like the originator. People have many different reason for going natural and if their doing because everybody else is doing it, thats still a valid reason. Thats the type of world we live in. we also live in a very shallow world too but thats another topic. I just wanna let you know that I enjoy your videos. thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject.

  • I totally agree with you. about everything you said. she kind of reminds me of my friend where she thinks too much into a situation. she should continue making the hair videos. its makes me think of those people out there that likes something when other people may not like it and then when everybody else starts liking it, she doesn't like it anymore. I know that sounds bad, but thats what i got out of her vid. (Part 1)

  • i definately dont think its a fad u have to go through stages and if your not commiteed and really want it why make that sacrifice...youd just be a bit stupid but i think the fad is and im guilty of this as well is the obseesion with having defined curls

  • Great vid...I agree!

  • As is evident here, naturals have been around for long time and large numbers. I appreciate the information discovered here. I appreciate all who are natural, relaxed, twisted, loc'd etc., etc. My knowledge base has grown and I thank each of you. Don't ever stop. With that being said, when someone promotes a product - I want to be reasonably assured that your review is honest from your real perspective so I'm not wasting my time and money.

  • If we really care about natural hair, who cares why people are not relaxing. Maybe going through this fad will enlighten them on the more solid reasons why natural hair is better. It is like when I went vegan. I stopped eating animal products to lose weight. (Shallow huh?) It wasnt until after going vegan for my personal reason did I discover the health benefits and more about animal rights.

  • @HealthBeautyLuxury "Maybe going through this fad will enlighten them on the more solid reasons why natural hair is better." AMEN AMEN!!

  • We are a vain culture.

  • @nocturne1980 agreed. but that's not what this video is really about. at the end of the day, feeling good about yourself can do wonders for your attitude and productivity in everything you do. as long as how you look doesn't consume your life, i don't think that's a bad thing.

  • @chescaleigh Beauty has a due date...even hair has a due date. If feeling good about self = happiness...then it's a hallow happiness that's in constant need of assurances and attention. Your video wasn't about what I posted perhaps...but that's the thought that came strongly to me. Our culture is obsessed with appearences. You strike me as a bright spirit, so it's nothing against you or your video....I'm just sadden whenever I'm struck with the shallowness of our spieces.

  • @nocturne1980 sure beauty has a due date. but everyone's perception of beauty is different. i know plenty of women who aren't "traditionally beautiful" but they love themselves and are happy no matter how much they weigh or how long or short their hair is etc. and i disagree, i believe feeling good about yourself is the first step to being happy. and if you love yourself, you don't need assurances from anyone else. that's not what truly loving yourself is about.

  • @chescalocs You don't need assurances from others to love self. It's not about others...it's about me focusing on and lifting up me. I can't speak for others, all I know is personally that was one of the worst periods in my life...when I was 'loving' myself. I did all the things I wanted to do because it was all about me. Our current definition of loving self is very messed up. Not to say that ALL people worship self.

  • @nocturne1980 agreed! for me, that's the best part of being content with myself. it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, because i'm happy! i'm sorry to hear you went through a rough time, but i'm glad you figured out what you needed to get past that. but like i said, what works for one doesn't work for all. for me, i went through horrible stages of depression because i wasn't happy with myself and thought i couldn't be happy unless i was XXX pounds or had a boyfriend etc

  • @nocturne1980 once i got past that and realized that how much i weigh or how i look doesn't make me who i am, i felt like the entire world opened up to me and suddenly other people could see me for who i really was. i didn't have to hide behind my clothes or my weight to be happy. i could just be, and that was good enough!

  • @chescaleigh that's awesome! exactly what I'm talking about. :0)

  • @nocturne1980 genuine question, if you don't believe that feeling good about yourself puts you on the path to happiness, what does?

  • @chescalocs I searched for a long time to find this answer. I've read so many new age books and fed into all that 'love thy self' hype....and I found I had to constantly feed my esteem to maintain it. I have never been more happier than when I let go of self and all these false trappings of beauty and focused on loving and serving others. Beauty fades and life is so much more than maintaining appearences. It feels good at first....worshipping vanity....but then it's like a mirrored cage.

  • @nocturne1980 well, what works for you might not work for me and vice versa. so i think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. but thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

  • @chescaleigh This is true. And like I said...my post wasn't against you ...just a thought that your video triggered, yet not about you personally. Thanks for posting your video! Have a great day. :0)

  • @nocturne1980 glad we're on the same page and can have a discussion without it turning ugly :) that says a lot about both of us and our ability to speak our minds in a respectful way. i love when that happens. thanks again!

  • @nocturne1980 lol you said : "I'm just sadden whenever I'm struck with the shallowness of our spieces." What other species have you been studying? Klingons? Even they care about how they look. LOL That just seemed like a silly thing to say. If you want to reference animal compare them to us in terms of beauty then that also doesn't make sense.

  • @GooGoo32 :0)

  • @nocturne1980... I totally agree with you! Feeling good about yourself really has nothing to do with happiness or it's paths. It sounds good, but is really of no importance. Also, the 'natural hair styles' in the 70's were not a fad, I assure you. Comparing the hair choice reasoning of today to those times in that manner don't add up, either.

    Stay safe...

  • word

  • I dont think natural hair is a fab most people do it because they want the best for their hair. It is a huge milestone i must say myself, since im been natural for almost two years. There will always be people doings for the wrong reasons and that is in every aspect of life. And those who do it for a fad i dont necessary thing thats a bad thing.

  • @monicaker "There will always be people doings for the wrong reasons and that is in every aspect of life. And those who do it for a fad i dont necessary thing thats a bad thing."

agreed. if your motives are good, why worry about anyone else?

  • Great video!

I really like the topic of sponsorships... very important and thanks for sharing your experiences!

  • well said, Chesca!!

  • @kimmaytube hey kimmay!!

  • You sound like a big sis. very well said.

  • I kind of agree. However, why is it that when black people want to be 'natural' (i.e.try and revert to a state that they feel is more natural, less harmful than myriad other alternatives) is it then to be labeled as a fad?I know you're saying that, hey, it's a matter of personal preference. But I still can't shake the feeling that those who have finally 'arrived' to some revelation that hair is in fact just hair become jaded and less understanding about the position of others who arent there yet.

  • @legri0t personally, it's not a "fad" for me. i'm responding to saxygurl's video where she labels natural hair as a fad. i don't agree in that respect. i've had locs for almost 7 years and natural hair for almost 8. my hair is not a fad for me. fad's come and go. so for some people they may be natural for a year and next year they aren't. what i'm trying to say is that i don't think it matters. do you and be happy. natural, relaxed, loc'd, weaved, dyed or whatever.

  • @legri0t i agree. i think that people who view their natural hair journey as such can be turned off by people who are wearing a fro or locs because it's "in". but i don't think that should be the case. i think everyone has a different level of connection to their hair and we should respect that. for some it's religious or spiritual, for some it's about leaving behind the perm and loving themselves in their most natural state and for some it's just hair and fashion. if you're happy i'm happy!

  • Natural hair has become a trend . But there has always been naturals. There is definitely more information and visual demonstrations for those who are interested in this "foriegn" hair type 2 maintain and care for it in the right way. I think especially now there are SO MANY women w/ BEAUTIFUL well maintained natural hair, that it's becomes more ATTRACTIVE in the eyes of others. I love this trend, BEEN ON IT FOR OVER 12 YEARS NOW, from, fros, TWA, locs u name it, I have done it

    ~KEEP IT REAL
