Simplement magnifique. J'ai écoûté des milliers de morceaux de musique, de cultures différentes (arabe, française, anglaise, russe, indienne, turque, tzigane, africaine...). Or ce "Concierto de Aranjuez" espagnol est très nettement l'un de mes favoris.
EL ADAGIO MÁS HERMOSO PARA GUITARRA JAMÁS COMPUESTA QUE HAYA ESCUCHADO, ME TRASTOCA EL ALMA. ME SUME EN UNA INTENSA Y HERMOSA MELANCOLÍA MEDITATIVA. LARGA VIDA A JOAQUÍN RODRIGO.
one of the greatest compositions the world has ever seen, and prehaps the greatest composition we will ever see. ive listened to many versions of this song. from John Williams to Miles Davis to Hank Marvin. but, i think my favorite version is that of an argentinian guitarist Ernesto Bitetti ,who played almost the exact same thing as John Williams, but something about the way he plays the guitar just makes this already amazing composition just out of this world.
This is not some soloist show-pony, though. The musicianship is that of a virtuoso, but one that is playing with other virtuosi. Watch his eyes. When he is playing ensemble, he is watching the conductor. Watch the other musicians. They are not accompanying a soloist, they are playing great music together.
Rodrigo was a genius – just close your eyes and listen to the interplay between the brilliant guitar of Williams and the horns. The music is nothing short of a conversation that expresses love, tenderness and passion… this piece of music simply transcends the need for language. Beautiful and timeless! The world is a better place each time it is played.
With privacy protected by username, I'll say that as a twenty-something in the 60's, I succumbed to friends' encouragement to take LSD. Without criticizing their judgment, I'll say that it gave me flashbacks that made me near-suicidal and profoundly disoriented. The one thing that always worked to restore my soul was to listen to the vinyl disc of John Williams' recording of the Concierto de Aranjuez. I'm here because a facebook pal asked, "What song can you honestly say changed your life?"
@Trombonist666 yea i realized this like an hour after i posted this comment. SORRY GUYS, I'M HUMAN. but still both John Williams are really awesome musicians :)
@SwingDanceBand not sure which orchestra but it was filmed at the Alhambra Palace in Granada Spain......and BTW holy shit what an AMAZING performance. I never get tired of hearing this wonderful piece.
Thanks to John Williams, Joaquin Rodrigo and to these unnamed artists who have dexterously played this piece. To everyone in the crew who have made this music output possible, words are not enough to commend you. We at Future Fashion Survey admire you. Excellente!
I can't believe that this new version is even better than the other, older one here on youtube! Thank you so much for posting this! And an even greater thanks to John Williams for his magnificent playing! Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed this performance!
@314ist This piece was a response to marital bliss and sadness. In her autobiography, Victoria, his wife, eventually declared that it was both an evocation of the happy days of their honeymoon and a response to Rodrigo's devastation at the miscarriage of their first pregnancy.
The story as I understand it was that Rodrigo took his pregnant wife to germany and she had the baby in germany. The baby dies and he blamed himself for taking them away from Spain. Thet never had any more children and his wife became his eyes as he went blind. Knowing that story, is it any wonder that this super emotional piece of wonderful music makes others eyes water. No matter how many times i hear it, it has the same effect.
Sometimes it does us good to realise what is important, when I lose track or feel I'm doing rather well I make sure I listen to this, it grounds me and reminds me that I am a speck of sand and although awful things happen mankind can produce beauty. I hope I can pass my love of this piece to our three daughters,my wife already understands
Guy, I am a retired homicide cop. There are sometimes in your life that you need to have somewhere peaceful to go to. The music of Rodrigo and the way it is played by John Wiliams somehow helps to put the past into a calming perspective. I have seen a lot of bad things which I hope to never see again. Music helps me to do this and Rodrigo just about has it nailed.
I am a Vietnam veteran and for some reason the overwhelming sense of grief conveyed this piece has always made me think of my friends that didn't make it back from that horrible time in my life. I can't listen to it without getting emotional, and I'm a big tough guy. Funny how music touches the soul sometimes.
When i first heard it, I ws puzzled as to what could inspire such emotion; then I was informed that it was written shortly after the Rodrigos lost their daughter.
@Cerebralcinema No, It is the Royal Alcazar of Seville, the oldest royal palace in Europe that continues discharging its duties as such, that is, as official residence of the King of Spain in Seville. Although its appearance is partially Arabic, It was built by the christian king Pedro I of Castille in the fourteenth century -1364-, more than a century after It have occurred the reconquest of Seville to the moors -1248-. It was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.
This music speaks to the very soul of Spain. Hearing this I get to see and understand the very core of my late father's being. Though born very far away from Spain, this music serves as an unbreakable and vibrant twine that connects me to the land of my ancestors. We owe Rodrigo a great debt and are indeed fortunate that he has unleashed this music, the depth and power of his feelings into a world that is in great need of passionate arousal.
Excelente Maestro John Williams!
I've watched and listened to John Williams evolve into the superb musician that he is over the years. John is a wonderful Guitarist. I only have to hear a few bars to tell that it's him playing. Incredible :) He does Rodrigo proud!
