I just shortened the barrel of my 91/30 to 22" from the bolt face and i see some nice fire balls with Romanian surplus. enough to fill the whole scope.
I put a long eye relief scope with a mount that replaces the rear blade sight with a weaver rail I bought for 41 dollars delivery included ! ! by NcSTAR 2-7X32 and I can group about 2 in using the surplus ammo, a folding TV dinner tray table and my shooting bag for a rest and just over 1in with 205g soft point Barnaul Russian hunting ammo at 100 yards with my 1944 Mosin Nagant ! Yes I love it.
nice video.. it's good to see others using the EX-F1 Pro.. it's perfect for weapons videos, also a good choice in music.. slow motion requires a slow beat
Try and find some blanks... I get large fireballs out of my 91/30 with that thing, havent sold my m38 though... wouldve loved to shoot the blanks in that thing..
Great video. Thanks for posting, I have a question that I don't see answered or asked before.
I have an M91/30. a great rifle. At my target range, here in Ca, they have metal targets the size and shape of rams set at 500 meters. Yes I have hit those targets.
However, I have run Winchester, I've sent Czech cartridges through it. I have even bought a 440 round 'tin' of Russian ammo. However I have never seen muzzle flash. What ammo are you using here?
@SacMyk Its not the ammo its the length of the barrel. The M44's barrel is about 9 inches shorter than a 91/30's, the powder just doesn't have time to burn. I have a 91/30 to, and it doesn't make any fireballs.
The 7.62x54r cartridge was designed around a long 29-30" barrel, but in WW2 the Russians decided they needed a shorter weapon for urban combat etc. They didn't bother to produce a shorter cartridge, thus the Mosin carbine fireball was born...
@dude444666444 Not sure, maybe its the ammo. I have a 91/30 ('30 Izhevsk) and it doesn't make any fireball at all. I typically use Russian and Bulgarian light ball surplus.
@wavelength1970 Oh yea probably beacause i brought a bunch of old rusty lose surplus rounds lol... well the fireball is pretty badass so ill just keep using them lol
@dude444666444 from shooting my 91/30 with various ammo...I am inclined to attribute fireballs to ammo grade and storage, such that humidity may have caused the powder to burn a little slower than normal. Heat and pressure may have caused the unburnt powder to "detonate" only when it has decompressed as the bullet left the barrel in the presence of oxygen. I'm not very good at controlling its recoil so honestly I do not know if the slow burn causes inaccuracies.
@wavelength1970 not to mention the heat. I have a Mannlicher Berthier 1892 carbine of similar length, firing 8mm lebel cartridges and it has a very similar effect :D
@hockeywarrior last year they were hard to find...then fleet farm stores had tons of them. They are still hard to find at gun shows and are usually overpriced. I have 2 of them, got them from the same gun shop about a year apart
@hockeywarrior Its not really a fixed bayonet, its a side folding bayonet. You pull this thing forward to release the teeth, then flip it out and seat in forward. Pretty badass, its a giant spike, not a blade :)
shot through a total of of about 2ft of tree with one shot at about 30ft. it has a little more ball shaped fireball than this one, but its still pretty freakin cool. it resembles th one at 1:04
Now that I see what the so-mo looks like, I may just try filming myself doing that in the near future. I have "Magix movie edit pro 14, Thanks for the heads up.
This is an awesome video... Love the slow mo, Is that a Jetta in the background? I should make a video just like this since I have all the stuff in the background.
very interesting video I like the slow motion, The blast from the carbines is something to see

I have four of these and like em because they are light weight, bone head simple, and use a full power cartridge.

It is the second movement from Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 14 on C# minor (read that as "c sharp") commonly called the Moonlight Sonata.
