I think it has to do with the way they went out. One was taken while grinding it out on the road for the fans and the other gave up everything for drugs and took himself out.

As long as Jerry, Mike and Sean are happy about playing together again, let them have fun. They could be doing worse things, such as tarnishing the name of Layne Staley and all the things that he had done for them, but they aren't like that.
You have a choice to either continue listening or stop listening to Alice in Chains, it's that simple.
Why can't people learn to accept two stages of the Alice in Chains band? One generation could be the "Layne Staley era" and the other generation could be the "William DuVall era". If you want to only listen to the Layne Staley era, so be it, just don't complain about the one coming up about DuVall and the people who may very well enjoy him with the band.
Of course his death took a toll on the band and caused them to break-up, but when they reunited they really wanted to get back. They found a lead-singer who was interesting to them, probably able to give them a new sound to move away from the grunge scene that they have been tagged to for so many years. They don't want to be a thing of the past, they want to be a current-day rock band for all generations. Deal with it.

It's not a respect thing though. Many bands have gone on after lead singers have died, Ac/dc for example. Music is what they love, and if they want to continue writing and performing under aic, than thats there choice. I doubt Layne would be angry or anything.
