why did you fade out the music before the end of it? The music actually came to an end without being faded out. Can't even find a good original version on this stinking site to convert and download because of all of the goobers that wants to fade out the music before it is finished.YUCK! No I don't mean the F word either,I mean what I put with a Y!
@thecoolestdad The syndicated cuts used up until 1992 used that faded out version of the song because the music didn't end cleanly, it segued into the advertiser of the week. There are a couple of episodes where you can hear "Quaker Oats" being muffled out after the abrupt fade. This is the version that WLVI in Boston ran in the late 1980s.
@imachias Yeah I know what ya mean. It's just lately I've been converting tv themes and music from Walt Disneyworld and even songs from the 70's and 80's onto my hard drive and into my media player to burn to CDs.Then I can listen to stuff while working. So I am looking for the complete original versions of avything I choose to convert and that's what frustrates me when things end or fades out unlike the originals were. However no problem,I'll take what I can get.LOL.
This is the Season 5 opening originally done for Kodak, which took over as one of the two lead sponsors. The Kodak opening finally included the correct 'twitch' noise, but left out some other sound effects used in the Quaker and Chevrolet openings.
@livinlarge18 Except in one episode ("Dirty Diaper Dan") when you hear the voiceover announce "Bewitched...", then the sound was cut out before the screen fade out...
@ClassicTVChazz This is from a 1970s syndication print. None of the episodes were remastered until 1992, and even then the color was still horrible. It wasn't until 1999/2000 that the 2nd remastering was done (the version we have today), where the color is much more accurate.
Do you recall a syndicated WGN Bewitched promo with a montage of clips of the show and the song "Comedy Tonight" by Zero Mostel playing as background??
because when this opening was used during the original network broadcast, that is where the announcer would say "bewitched ... brought to you by ..." and go into the sponsor commercial.
I"m glad to see that there are other people that remember these openings. I remember when the Season 3 DVD boxset of Bewitched came out. I raised hell because it didn't have this opening theme. I wrote Sony and called them everything but a child of God. Needless to say, I never got a response back. It just didn't make sense to keep using that old theme music for the DVD boxsets up thru season 5. Sony got lazy.
You know what I found funny...it took 5 seasons before we heard the actual twitch effect in the opening...yet it was in the "Bewitched: Back in a Moment" spot. Just a little thing I have! LOL
Very good. You know your stuff. You're correct - in it's original run, this opening didn't hit the airwaves until sometime in the middle of season 5 when Kodak became a sponsor. Prior to that, the series, every episode had been sponsored by either Quaker Oats or Chevrolet - and the tune was accompanied with more embellishments and a different twitch sound effect.
This version was originally only used for season 5, but in the early years of syndication for bewitched, it was used for seasons 3-5, the one in season 3/4 had sound effects when the cartoon witch flew through the show's famous logo, and a different twitch effect.
I grew up with this version... I always liked the one.. I was glad they restored the prints.. but I missed this version..

Isn't this a little too fast?
livinlarge18 1 year ago
@livinlarge18 They used to speed them up and thus have less cuts. Now they air them in the standard speed with a lot more cuts.

Hard to believe this opening has become "rare", but it was the correct opening for color / syndicated Dick York episodes for many years!

I remember that weird fadeout! For years I didn't understand why they did that. Thanks for clearing that up.
