Thanks for your comment. One of the coolest opening title sequence ever and that animation, eh? Love the voice over - "Brutal!...Savage!" wish they would put out a DVD set.
Ditto - Friday nights, I want to say 9:00 p.m. Was it on one year or two years? I remember that it had two openings, this one and one without the voiceover. In the other one he would always announce his name to somebody: Thomas Hewitt Edward Cat. Then they'd cut to the music. Cool, huh?
it wasn't on long that is for sure. as you stated one year, maybe two. i was about 5 when it came on. i was shocked many years later to discover the guy from an officer and a gentleman and lost highway, etc. played THE cat!
Robert Loggia also played another cat, for Disney in the late 50's. He played El Gato, the cat, El Faga El Baca(sorry for mispelling of the name)he was an actual legendary Mexican sheriff who was said to have nine lives and couldn't be killed by his enemies. It was a very popular limited run mini series at the time when I was a kid. I believe it was broadcast after Guy Williams Zorro became a big fad and Disney was hot to produce another hispanic western hero.
The Nine Lives of Elfego Baca 1959. Disney rushed it out after the success of Davy Crockett. It is on a great boxed set with Swamp Fox (with Leslie Nielsen) easily obtained on ebay.
Robert Loggia also played another cat for Disney in the late 50's. He was also El Gato, El Fago El Baca(wrong spelling)a mexican sheriff that appeared to have nine lives based on a real, historical character
this preceeded the Man From Uncle on the night is was shown if my memory serves correctly. al hirt had the theme on one of his albums.. sadly the show died in the ratings.
Yes! I just bought this episode from a collector. This scene is taken from my favorite episode that I mentioned five months ago. T.H.E. Cat was beated up by gangsters sent by mob boss (played by Warren Stevens) to warn him to leave Timmy, the night club comedien (not singer) alone. I haven't seen this episode since 1971(syndicated rerun), and it's great! The great theme song was done by MEDICAL CENTER and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE artist Lalo Schiffrin.
Today, they'd have him able to beat up 12 guys at once, or turn the character into a woman. But why did he go into the alley when he obviously suspected he was being tailed?
I had searched for this sound track/title song for over twenty years! I rewrote it from memory (as I remembered it as an eight year old!) It came on at 9:00PM on Friday night-Boy Scout meeting night- in Kansa City, Missouri.) I became a solid fan of Mr. Loggia after his role in "The Lost Missle." I just hope Tom Cruise does NOT get his hands on this one before me!!! :-)
When I was in the fourth grade, this was one of my favorite TV shows. I also was in love with the theme music. Both were outstanding! My favorite episode was when T.H.E. CAT rescued a night club jazz singer , who was forced into signing a mob contract by forceing his hand into a fish tank filled with piranha fish. Hey Hollywood! Please bring back this series, with the same music soundtrack! Bring back Robert Loggia with a young assistant, such as Brian Genesse or William Zabka, or both!
love the show, Robert Loggia was great playing that roll.

Was there ever a time in history that Robert Loggia wasn' kicking ass?
damienmetalwind 3 years ago
yes. in Scarface, when Tony Montana planted about 300 bullets in him
myunclesnephew 3 years ago
i forgot, that was tony who got the 300 bullets, loggia just got one
myunclesnephew 3 years ago
And after the fact, Robbie L. still had a sweet mustache. So I ask again, when was he not kicking ass?
And Tony didn't kill him, all he did was say "choot this piece a chit meng."

Thanks! That was great!! I am looking for more, but no DVDs available yet. Peace.
