Another reason is that if China was to grant independence to the Taiwan and Tibet, many other tribes in China would also want to gain independent and their own pieces of land, this would land China in a chaos and torn state.

The ancient Sino-Tibetan relationships are very complex, as described in wikipedia, actually more than that. Eg it says "there can be no question regarding the subordination of Tibet to Manchu-ruled China...". It is definitely not a total country-to-country relationship. Eg., how can the selection of the head of Tibet (Dalai Lama) be under the supervisions or approval of the Chinese government in Qing Dynasty, and how can Chinese government station troop in Tibet for so long in the history?
It is useless to trace back hundreds of years, or even <100 years and use the map then to justify the borders now. How long has Hawaii been part of U.S.? Didn't you see the ever changing borders of European countries? Who has it has it. Didn't you see China's territory had been shrinking a lot in the last few hundred years? Why? Because China was weak and was not able to protect its interest. Tibet is part of China, now recognized by almost all countries, and Da Lai La Ma. Legitimate enough.

Another reason is that if China was to grant independence to the Taiwan and Tibet, many other tribes in China would also want to gain independent and their own pieces of land, this would land China in a chaos and torn state.

I am not sure what Free means in Free Tibet. Independence? It will get nowhere, and not the right thing to do, as admitted by Dalai Lama. More rights and freedom for Tibetans? Yes, I am for it, just as I am for more freedom for other Chinese including Hans. Tibetans and other Chinese are getting more freedom in the last 30 years, anybody can see that. Is that enough? The ancient Sino-Tibetan relationships are very complex, as described in wikipedia, actually more than that. Eg it says "there can be no question regarding the subordination of Tibet to Manchu-ruled China...". It is definitely not a total country-to-country relationship. Eg., how can the selection of the head of Tibet (Dalai Lama) be under the supervisions or approval of the Chinese government in Qing Dynasty, and how can Chinese government station troop in Tibet for so long in the history?

Didn't you see the ever changing borders of European countries? Who has it has it. Didn't you see China's territory had been shrinking a lot in the last few hundred years? Why?
