nightwish = symphonic power ( but more symphonic then power ) and they sound identical live.

and as for complexity, mastodon's proggy music is super complex, the drumming sounds like fills and solos the whole way through and the guitar solos are mindblowing on some songs, i suggest something of their new recored like oblivion or divinations

atmosphere , keyboards, drums, guitars, voice. and how they weave in and out of eachother. that stuff.

thats not to say the drums and guitars in this band is uncomplex. i think my opinion is due in part to the fact that i grew away from american metal.

and listen to my 3 main catagories goth / power / symphonic metal.

By "clash with the drums and guitars", I'm assuming that you mean grindcore style drumming, like blastbeats and polyrhythmic drumming? Actually, once you listen to that sort of stuff a few times and let the music gel, you'll find that it's some of the most satisfying aggressive music to listen to. What once sounded like a total cacophony will reveal itself to be intricately complex music.
