I remember being seven years old listening to this on my brother's record player back in 77. Over and over and over... Thanks, I've been looking for it for a while. Still gives me the same emotions.
Nice to hear this again,John Prine suffered from those dreadful "The New Dylan" claims - which are still plaudits that usually mean the kiss of death (harmond wintchanil for instance)
Al did this song on Al's Big Deal with horns and backup vocals, Awesome!! It would be great if someone could load it here. I dont think that record is on cd yet
Great song. (There is a Hole in Daddy's Arm Where all the MONEY GOES) I think there is an Arlo Guthrie version? Not sure really,.. BUT AL OWNS THIS SONG!! .. the piano, it all works with the hurt of the addict he sings about.
Thanks. Now I will check John Prine. I like this excellent version, but it probably was JOHN PRINE whose voice I can remember. A WRITER deserves big props, Al doubtless would agree. TIMELESS work. Peace.
God, I love John Prine. And, yes, better than Dylan.

Holy crap, this is the saddest song I've ever heard. Brilliant work from Kooper (as always).
