this album is dope. bought this right when it came out and soon after it was pretty much a rarity. a lotta cool tracks on this one as well as Tes' first album.
good stuff bro, ive been looking for a user like you. someone that reviews some things ive already heard and puts me on to things that i have yet to discover. i give you mad props. just subbed
Cool, thank you so much. There's a couiple of other cats doing a similar thing, like TheNeedleDrop, RickyShore and JumbleJunkieMusic, but that's pretty much it. Nobody on youtube is talking music really.
a lot of the best rap is on mixtapes. i stopped buying albums a long time ago because they're just a bunch of songs by the same artist. i know what i just typed makes no sense but hear me out: rap is mostly about the beat. it's rare for a talented mc to align with a good producer. the mixtapes are when the rappers are the hungriest/best. mostly they freestyle over already golden beats. buy a sub to rapidshare. you won't have to worry about spending too much on too little. and get on lil wayne.
I'm always gonna be an album guy. Albums are where you get to really know an artist, albums are where they can put out their full message. Where you really get to know a guy.
i don't know if you get what i mean by "mixtape" - it's not a mix of a bunch of different artists. lil wayne releases all kinds of mixtapes. they're albums that aren't officially released by labels. i was never too into mixtapes with a bunch of different artists unless it's put together by a really good dj. lil wayne's albums suck shit but his mixtapes are amazing. wale's mixtapes are amazing but his album sounds like it's gonna be the same old thing.
on the mixtapes, artists don't censor themselves and they don't have some loser a and r telling them what kinds of songs they need to record. the mixtapes are where you really get to know the artist. if it weren't for mixtapes, i wouldn't have any good rap music.
I agree. too many albums are being geared to appease the likes of Wal Mart and HMV and fuckery of that nature. I don't buy that many rap albums to be honest. I did buy dozens when i worked at A&B because I gave up on hip hop for years and years. I got into to Doom, then Del, then Nas, then Heiro, then Wu tang and so on. I've been at a plateau for a while now. Nothing good comes out anymore, I pretty much own every classic album anyone could want, plus the one in a million good album.
Ah, I see. So a mixtape is really just some independant release that the artist wants to make and not really profit much from it. Something that is more from the heart than something he thinks will the mainstream fuck up everyone else is doing. I get it now. yeah, anything raw and underground is fine by me. I'd love to get my hands on some.

I've had this CD on my amazon wishlist for years. I really liked his songs on the Bedford Files compilation.

Bedford Files, eh ?
I'll have to look that up.

Yeah check it out, it's a good compilation. It even has a suprisingly tight track by Vast Aire on it you may like (Tippin' Dominos Rjd2 remix)

That's the link to the Vast track I just mentioned, the quality is kinda bad on here though...

The beat was pretty sick on this track.
I like most of what RJD2 touches.

Rjd2 WAS dope, I can't cosign the shit he's done recently though,
