one of the luckiest days of my music listening life was to find this double cd in a discount bin in dublin. for less than ten euro I found a rare thing a bit of pure magic
@Saheli9 do not say da man maybe u think so . thats not what u call shame u jalouse becaus they don mention your race anyway u being racist sorry about da
blues has its roots in african music. in america the roots of blues is found in slave music they'd sing in the fields. the slaves came from africa, get the connection?
Ditto, makes me smile...Never heard this(him) before? ive just started a search...sounds like african mixed with blues/bluegrass? god knows..but me likey:)
Amadou Toumani Touré was born in Mopti, a region with a high Songhai/Sonrai (Songhai and Sonrai are the same thing just different spellings) population. Nothing about his name is Fulani. Toumani sounds Mandé/Bambara, I think he is a Songhai, though I am not sure what ethnic group the president of Mali is.
@cowandchicken that is not true, he does sing in Zarma, if you bought his CD "Savane" a few tracks are in Zarma (like the Soya track) this is because Zarma and Songhai language are the same language in itself. They are both Songhai languages one spoken in Niger and Nigeria the other spoken in Mali. Another name is Dendi which is spoken in Northern Benin as well. Yes, he sang in Fulfulde a lot which is Fulani language. Songhai and Zarma are 95% the same.
@ish1986ful Ali Farka not a Fulani, he could sing in Fulani language, he did not hate Fulani people, he loves us. A lot of his song in Fulani Maasinkooré dialect.
brothers , ali farka was the best, i had collected all ali farka music, since my late 20 th now i'm 42 and every day you get a new from ali, like this one with bocar hamadoun farala
Ali Farka Touré was a Songhai/Sonrai man, but he was born in Gouramatche and grew up in Niafunké, but regions have a lot of Fulani people inhabiting them. So Ali Farka Toure could speak Fulfude, Songhai, Tamasheq, Bambara, many languages actually, because of the diverse region he grew up in.
Heya bonzi16! Thanks for the comment. Due to his large fan-base in the West, most of Ali Farka Toure's albums can be found at music outlets in the UK and US. I remember finding this very album (Red&Green) at one of those large music stores (I think it was Zavvi/HMV) in the 'World Music' section. You could also buy and download them from the iTunes Store and other places online :)
I thank God that I have all of Ali Ibrahim Farka Toure's music. He was and is my hero, the example of what an African man should be. A giver that gives back to his people.
i agree with you whole heartedly. im from southern africa and fell in love with his music when i was 20yrs old. later i found out about him as a man, as an african.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, is Ali farka toure fulani? It founds a lot like fulde , especially the bit at the begining
kamatcho123 3 years ago 3
Hi kamatcho123! The song itself is in Fulde, but Ali Farka himself was Songhai/Sonrai. Sorry for the late reply :)
