your stick in your left hand should be turned the other way, on reason why it is eber use like that when you're doing a cross stick rim shot on the snare is when you play traditional grip so you can get to the position faster. So many drummer mistake why.
@PAofficial lots of people play like that. He either does it for better rim shots, has weak left, or usually plays traditional grip. Iron Maiden drummer plays like that a lot to get a really loud snare sound
exactly...you're damn right...I'm playin now since I'm 3 years old...and thats damn long time...and if I see these little kids who are playin for a half year or two months with an pearl masterworks set and zildjian a custom cymbals...I really get fuckin angry....
It sounds like you're tripletizing the downbeat and subdivision "a" (1 e & a) a little bit on the bass drum sometimes, especially when you change patterns. Try to tighten that up a bit when you practice.
Very interesting, very good. A bit strange for me though. Maybe 'cause I'm not used to hear this kind of rhythm coming from a drum, it's a little bit faster than usual but it's a very good solo anyway. Congrats!
I was just telling that dude a page or two back that heel toe is the way to play quickly and consistently. Not that you need to know it for this. Samba is mostly just about good limb coordination.
@tylerLhobbs does speed really dictate when to use heel toe? hes staying in time with a consistent sound, and thats whats important. its also less tiring using heel toe. my drum teacher plays blues and uses heel toe to keep the shuffle on the kick simply because its less tiring and feels natural.
@tylerLhobbs From my understanding, heel toe is very similar to how a double is played in marching technique drums, there is the initial strike from the wrist (heel) and then a rebound strike from the fingers (toe). Now, if I were to play his bass beat with only my wrists, it would look pretty unnatural. I think his way of using the heel-toe method is probably the most natural, grooving way to play that beat. It would also be a lot easier on his leg.
not actually that fast. probably just straight heel up though for powerful double strokes. or heel toe if you want to over complicate things at this speed. better used at higher tempo or note values

incorporate your bass into your solo. make it your third arm
natelichtenberger 1 year ago
More important that the speed is the feeling of the samba... that needs a bit more work...Good job, though. Keep it up.

how do you play the bass drum so quickly and consistently? are you using heel up or heel down?
syang9 4 years ago 2
I use my heel up for hard double hits that are consistent.
grahamid403 3 years ago
Probably heel toe..heel toe is the way ta go.
Superterrestrial 3 years ago
There's no need for heel toe at this speed. You should be able to play this normally (if you can't, you'd better practice!).
tylerLhobbs 3 years ago
I was just telling that dude a page or two back that heel toe is the way to play quickly and consistently. Not that you need to know it for this. Samba is mostly just about good limb coordination.
Superterrestrial 3 years ago
@tylerLhobbs i still prefer heel toe at slow speeds. turns out a double with only one motion, its easier and conserves energy.
Draper354 1 year ago
@Draper354 The heel up technique doesn't require more energy at this speed.

@tylerLhobbs maybe he feels more comfortable playing heel toe?...
