In 1983, this is how it was in Europe, I went on 2 tours in 82 and 83 in Europe. Everywhere we went the crowd was just like this except in England. I toured with Bad Religion and Youth Brigade w/ the early GoldenVoice crew.
Strange thing is, the infamous short lived Sex Pistols tour had a similar reaction in the US in 77. They gave up after only 5 shows I think? What sucked is they gave up in San Fran, where the gig was packed at the huge Cow Palace. JRotten acted like a bitch & wouldn't sing.
Sometimes the crowd might be intently listening. Sometimes they might be blown away. Not jumping around does not equate necessarily to lame. I've been to many shows where the lame asses jumping around ruined the show for others.
@cordedpoodle You aint kidding. I went to the Gary Numan concert a few months back (yeah, I know, Gary Numan. What can I say, my boyfriend digs him and I have thie secret love for the album Replica's) and this weirdo couple standing infront of us totally ruined the concert with their lame here 'n' there dance moves and constant jumping. They even (accidentally) whacked this poor girl in the face whilst jiving. Unless it's in the pit, i'd rather a mellow audience.
I was there as a 17 year old boy at Paradiso Amsterdam. Can remember the bored crowd though. Unbelievable whenI see this. Sounds great! Jeffrey Lee Pierce drank himself to death when he was 38 I read at Wiki. Rock 'n Roll...
The "R'nR fun" surely had ended when JLP got very ill. He didn't die overnight but was sick a long time. He had to face the cruel reality that he wouldn't get a 2nd chance and that he would have to leave everything he loves behind (his friends, his music…). Remember "Yellow eyes". That's the problem with drugs (alcohol, too), it's self poisoning. Everyone's free to decide how to lead his/her life but the consequences can be merciless. R.I.P. JLP, a real bluesman.
@JohnMoseley And it looks like Jeffrey Lee is fully aware of that. He has this "why the fuck am I bothering right now?" look on his face. That sucks. I would have traded places with any of those bored-looking fuckers to be there.
