Please does anyone know what tuning does he use? I'd like to try something like this on my flat-fretboard steel string acoustic (quite old and not very common instrument very well suited for slide playing) and I have played a little in the conventional position with standard tuning but I have no experience with the lap steel style.
Why? Because he plays a weissenborn? Does that mean that Bob Brozman and Jerry Douglas are Ben Harper wannabes also? Ben Harper is not the only person on the planet that plays a weissy. I enjoy both Ben Harper's and John Butler's music and both musicians have styles that are very different. Open your ears and listen to the music before you make empty uneducated comments that make you look like an fool.
Really? My mom said i shouldnt give it out, but you seem nice. You arent an internet predator are you? Do you have a van and a basement? It puts the lotion on its skin!
I think Ben H. and John B. have been playing for the same amount of years. If you want to call John B. a Ben Harper wannabe your probably a fourth string frat boy bandwagon kook. Do your home work goon.
I really dont care enough to do research on this derivitave artist. His guitar style is very Harper and his lyrics smack of Chilli Peppers. He just dosent sound origional. Thats just my opinion, which is valid. Just as your opinion is valid. Try not to take it so personal guys. Grow the fuck up.
thats a good interpretation of JB my friend.. Ive been a fan for about 5 years and this is Johns later music style and yes it is just poppy but John Butler has open many roads in terms of style.. search take john butler or watch any of the ocean videos and in taht music you will the originality ofJB
poppy ehhh some is but its not as poppy as people like Dallas Green (City and Colour) Mr.Butler has been putting alot of indian sounds into his music as of late just listen to 3:16 to about 3:40 you can't tell me thats poppy
East Indian my friend not Native Indian. I am aware of "Under an Indian Sky" but I can't think of the tune, so if it has East Indian sounds in it I apologize
One of his nails was ripped off during a show so he taped a warped banjo pick to his finger until his nail grew in enough to get a fake nail put back on.
ive got that shirt :) this is what you call music!

You ever been at a concert of Xavier Rudd? Most of his songs are uberenergetic, his energetic songs are just not so well known by the larger public.

Sorry for my ignorance... does anyone know what the black thingy on his finger is and why it's there? Is it just tape or something?
bounceonjumper 3 years ago
maybe a temporary manicure cos he wears fake nails...
unclejomofo 3 years ago
Yeah that was the best I came up with too.
Now I think about it, I seem to remember seeing that it was made of tape... he must have to wear it pretty tight. Ow.
