8V92 or 6V92. Not produced anymore IIRC but used to be very common in marine (might still be produced for that application) Greyhound type buses/coaches and in semi's. The military uses them a lot in the transport vehicles here in Iraq, probably Afghanistan as well. Emissions are tough to pass and the inline 6 is hard to beat. Enjoy the reading, I didn't know it either until I started my Navy career years ago. Some folks are drag racing them. you tube it.

usually its large injectors that at low flow the spray pattern is crap, at high flow it works so at low rpm its almost stalling, governor upps fuelling until it fires, then it tries to rev high, governor backs it off, it goes between these 2 states up, down etc. low CR (to keep dynamic CR correct)also has an effect.

Im not sure about the pump fuelling being upped causing it because at idle the flow low anyway but I could be wrong, it has happened...once...lol.

Diesels are filthy whether they are maintained or not, while some gas engines are so clean (PZEVs) that the exhaust is actually cleaner than the intake air! Even the little "clean diesel" VW TDIs are only LEVs, the same as a Ford F-150.
