For anyone not realising, Swans and Villa fans were completely silent for well over a minute before even being asked. The spontaneous applause was simply a release of appreciation for a man who was, until recently, a living legend of the game. A weird atmosphere would follow. None of the usual banter or malice exchanged between both sets of fans, That day football just didn't seem important. Who cares about winning, 2 kids won't see their hero ever again and God only knows why.

I was watching this game, the silence was to commemorate him as both a player and as a person. The Swans applauded him down to a sign of respect for his career and him personally. Its true, we (Swans) went from silence to chanting and applauding him, but personally i think it was the best way to respect such a welsh legend.

This is one of the most touching things a group of fans has ever done & it was unplanned. It brings a tear to my eye when I see it.

Irrespective of anyone's opinion of the cause of his death he was a cracking player. I'm 43 so have seen his whole career and he performed week in week out for whoever he played for.

I think everyone's so shocked because for 20 years his name has probably been mentioned every weekend & it's mentioned again only this time the poor lad has taken his own life.
