  • Tommi + Evo = GREATNESS

  • the good old days of WRC :(

  • EvO mAkinEn 4ever..♥♥♥

  • it's so hilarious that he drives that chilled while pushing with that wild tempo...these Finn drivers are the kings of rally no matter who says what !!!

  • 0:49-0:59 was the fucking shit!

  • The parked cars at the side of the road make me laugh.

  • WRC doesn't make this kind of onboards anymore...I wonder whether it's so to protect the driver tactics....I like them a lot more than just looking through the windshield with no driver/co-driver visible

  • @idworkhard Maybe it's the enhanced safety features, or it could be that.

  • why cant I do this in my driving lessons.

  • no excuses for being late to school if Tommi is your dad.

  • For a long time wondering what the eight cretins did not like this video. Damn, I still do not know ...

  • @rafalp7raven

    ken block fans

  • @iv17an12ba1990can yeeaaa, you're damn right

  • 8 gays

  • nice with my golf i do this to

  • Best years of WRC in my opinion

  • awesome driver... if the rally this days are with this quality of driving + an onboard camera without the shitty commentators who doesn't know what they are talking about i wouldn't miss a single race ! his an awesome driver from FINLAND!

  • He is definitely my hero. I'll stop riding bike now. I feel miserable.

  • Sanremo Rally

  • what a driver!!!

  • nice tune

  • I just started smoking.

  • I just love them doing handbrake turn!

  • F1よりこっちの方がドライバーの凄さが伝わってくる。

    神業だね。

  • Tommi isn't ruling out a comeback when he is 50 years old, but it would only be for Rally Finland.

  • he just makes it* look so effortless! wow!

  • he just makes i look so effortless! wow!

  • The only kinda car/sport that scares the shit outta me, these guys are superhuman in hand to eye. F1 looks like a day in the park compared to this. Massive respect!

  • ミツビシ時代のマキネンならばロ-ブと勝負出来たかもね

  • @933661

    you´re right! xD

  • Today's WRCar has around 900 nm of torque.

  • @rendezvous65 suuuuuuuure....

  • @rendezvous65

    nautical miles of Torque??

    or N.m of torque :=:):)

  • @DonLduk It's n.m of torque. Todays WRcar's are so torquey that they barely have to rev. They sound like the drive is going for a nice country stroll than a real race car.

  • does anyone know how fast they go? looks damn quick

  • What a driver.

  • Mitsubishi went down hill when the rules changed from group A to WRC spec.

  • Watch carefully how he is managing the torque on the turns with "clever" shifts near the end of the video..!

    Great skills...

  • the driver that inspired me. made me want to rally and buy an evo.

  • True pinminship.

  • The Lancer WRC04 and 05 don't sound nearly as well as the older car. They have the same engine but lack that distinct 4G63 sound.

  • Nice turn at 1:44

  • Even more with that multicam on-screen =D

  • Suddenly Mitsubishi's competitive level crumbled after Mäkinen left after those many years :P

  • The Lancer WRC helped contributed to this. The Lancer WRC04 and 05 weren't so bad. Rovanpera did get a 2nd place in Australia 05.

  • The Lancer WRC was still crap when Makinen drove it. He said it was a disaster.

  • @juhazz TUXAIO? Den nomizw....

  • @crazybillll I have no idea what you are talking about so keep it in English, please

  • TOMMI in the evo is like SEBASTIEN in the Citroen C4. BEST CAR DRIVER COMBINATION, UNSTOPPABLE!!!

  • i think he crashed in this rally and killed someone actually.. a police man if iam not mistaken,,

  • actually he finished 3rd and did not kill anyone!

  • it seens it wasnt in this rally, but something like that did happen

  • He killed a policeman and then the policeman's family mourned over his death and died as well, one by one the neighbors started passing away. All in all, there's 23 lives lost.

  • The Carismas were really Evo's. The teammate always got older Makinen cars. They would then rebadge them as Carsima's instead of Evo's.

  • No man, the Carsima is a totally different car from the Lancer. They were both campaigned as rally cars by Ralliart in this season.

  • Thats interesting since most Rally historians said that Makinen would get the new cars and his teamates would get used cars called the Carisma.

  • OK I'm convinced. But the Carisma is an actual Mistubishi car. It was sold in the European market. I just thought that is was the actual car rather than a rebadged Lancer Evo.

  • The road going Carisma is a different car but the Carisma GT was a re badged Lancer Evo. I was referring to the Rally cars.

  • Interesting, thanks for the info.

  • Actually in 2000 Loix drove S2 TMR which was a former Makinen car in 1999. When Mitsubishi launched the Lancer WRC his team mate Loix drove Y4 MMR which was a test car. Makinen however drove Y5, Y7, and Y9 MMR.

  • He actually won this rally.

  • Or maybe not. He did win Sanremo 1998-1999.

  • it's a sequential "gearbox"

  • what kind of gearbox is that?

  • Mitsubishi were given permission to make the Evo 6.5 to WRCar specs. It was still a Group A car but had WRCar enhancements. Until the FIA forced them to develop a WRCar based on the Evo VII. Tommi said he liked Mitsubishi but it was time for him to move on.

  • It's not that fast, the maximum average stage speed should be less than 130km/h according to FIA rules and tarmac rallies are slower than gravel or snow ones(some time ago P. Solberg exceeded this limit in Finland and the stage was excluded from the next year's rally). Thus I think it's about 100km/h. And yeah the grip and handling is incredible, but none of us could even keep the tyres up to the temperature :-)

  • Men The CAR HANDLING IS just unbelivable!!!!!

  • @laikros its like a day at the office for him :D

  • You speak as if you drive like "this" on your way to work everyday. Yeah it probly is 60-75mph. To drive like "this" on roads like that with limited familiarity takes some remarkable talent. And you don't go straight to this from RBR PC.

I can assure you, this is tits...........

  • Man what a smooth driver.

  • non va un cazzo

  • ps F1 cars only have high grip when they are really flying, its all aerodynamics! an f1 car would be left following the rally cars tyre marks doing about 30! rally cars rely more on 4WD, limited slip differentials and such like for their astonishing grip levels.

    TOMMY IS A LEGEND!

  • the only reson you think its sped up is cus youve never seen the world in such a blur.....cus your not Tommy! Sped up.....pah!!!

  • im sorry, but not even a F1 can get that level of grip, let alone on a dusty and unpredictable road. i think your giving makkinen far too much credit on this. cars simply do not go that fast, and you'd be a fool to believe they did.

  • if it was sped up the gear changing & steering movements would be rapid, the best drivers were always the most relaxed behind the wheel like this! what mcrae onboard rally gb 2001, also the smaller the screen the quicker it looks,

  • Are you having a laugh, he's not going that fas. It's a tarmac rally so he'll probably averagee averaging 100 - 120 kph (about 60-75mph).

The straights dont seem that fast. (Watch Group B onboard for fast)

The only reason I can see for you talking about 'sped up corners' are the hairpins, they seem to go round so fast not becuase of grip, but because he's on the fucking handbrake.

Also, the codrivers voice is not sped up (pitch is normal) and he seems to be giving notes at an average rate.

  • how is this sped up!!??, look at the gear changes, & steering, as for grip= the best tyres in the world, & the co driver,s head bobs about due to the tightness of the cars set up , & mr makinen, is driven!!, true & simple FACT,, sped up ha ha ha,,

  • It looks perfectly normal to me and i watch a lot of rallying coverage, the majority of which is shot using on-board footage. the grip level looks normal, the cornering speeds look normal, the speed at which the co-driver turns his page over looks normal. perhaps you have a problem with your computer?

  • Exactly. It looks faster because the road is quite narrow for such high speeds.

  • er it's not sped up mate

  • LOL like lightening? those who don't know much about rallying should not speak. You're an idiot. yo momma told you that right?

  • es una locura

  • sorry the stage is "Rezzo" not "Vignai"

  • thanks.

  • ive always thaught the lancer rally car looked a bit harder to drive, but these guys make it look easy :)

  • Col de Torini stage?

  • no is Sanremo,stage "Vignai"

  • I think parking cars by the side is dangerous but not more dangerous as hitting the rocks and cliffs by the side of the road. Cars or no cars, its still dangerous. Rally drivers are a skilled lot with daredevil instincts

  • sports that take talent and balls - rally, most car racing for that matter, motocross, superbike etc. any sport that requires a ball is gay

  • Comment removed

  • In todays rally this wouldn't be allowed! [There is worse watch "Walter Röhrl at Portugal, 1985 (onboard!)"]

  • thez die>)

  • Dude It's rally and yes its dangerous. Dont be a whiner. Its the last real motorsport without all the bullshit we see in formula 1 and nascar or motogp wsbk for that matter. Well wsbk is really good atm

  • Catalonia rally Spain

  • this is San Remo 2000

  • Corsica Or Monaco (Probably Corsica) ? Either way both awesome rallies...

  • Does anybody know if this onboardvideo is available on DVD please? I´m looking for WRC onboard material on DVD but it´s not easy to find. Thanks.

  • C'était le bon vieux temps.

  • i just dont know how that guy doesnt get dizzy while reading those things.

  • pirun pitkä oikee :)

Means fucking long right! or something like that...

  • It means "damn long right"

  • in my opinion the best looking Lancer Evo ever

  • agreed.

  • I think the Evo IV and the IX look the best.

  • i want so gravel action!!!!!

  • So smooth drivin. Just perfect

  • old school sweet :D

  • finnish are really good on wrc

  • Is Sanremo rally? Special stage: Pantasina?

  • No, actually, thats Rallye Monte Carlo

  • the group a lancer was at the end of its development hence very fast. the wrc cars at that time were all in early stages and had not developed speed. When mitsubishi built a wrc car they went to the back of the line in terms of development time. Gilles Panizi was the quickest tarmac driver in the world when he was in the lancer wrc car, but was not competitive. Toni G was also quick on gravel but did not win. They pulled out cause it was costing too much, not because they didnt have the talent.

  • I agree.

  • the view from a in car camera usually make everything looks slower... this is really really really fast in real life... go compare a normal B-road driving video

  • I agree.

  • ur pathetic.

tarmac rallies are soo exciting and tight to watch.

  • why? try to do better than that.....

  • Best WRC driver ever! Thank you Tommi!

  • The man's a legend. Great champion, great driver, great guy.

  • the cornering ability on these cars is stunning. there is sooo much grip on high speed turns.

  • woow look at 1:14

  • It's kinda funny how sometimes the co-driver indicates very long turns using "pirun pitkä" which means "damn long." Great driving, a waste that he doesn't drive anymore!

  • Why do you think that? I don't see what you could mean in the message I wrote like 6 months ago:

"It's kinda funny how sometimes the co-driver indicates very long turns using "pirun pitkä" which means "damn long." Great driving, a waste that he doesn't drive anymore!"

  • Golden days of WRC, before fancy paddle shifters! Makinen rules, so glad he got to represent Subaru (I'm a WRX driver!)!!!

  • subaru sucks :P..joking men.... but im an evo driver :D.... so screw wrx lol

  • I respect the EVO but will never buy a Mitsu. Also, why did Mitsu drop out of WRC for the past few years, and will be out till 2009 at the earliest? Just don't have it together!!! :P

However I'm disappointed with the direction Subaru is going as a brand. Since Toyota bought GM's stake things aren't looking so good...

  • mitsu drop out cuz they havent find good drivers like Tommy M. thats from my poit of view... cuz if u remember mitsubishi use to win almost all races when tommy M. was there

  • Yeah from what i have heard mitsu wasnt as competitive as other cars at the time. it was group a (or something) car when almost all other cars were better. so when Tommi left mitsu they had no more drivers that could win with that car so they had to drop out. It's just funny how Tommi won 4 champs with less competitive car than others. pure skill that was

  • :) aggresive driving at its best.

  • he knows anything about evo...i wonder why he changed to Subaru?

  • he switch teams after crash in which his pilot was injured

  • Tommi Makinen, you are the best rally racer for my taste ! i wish thet you come back to the wrc and show that french boy who is the best !!!!

  • Mcrae v Makinen, best wrc rivalry ever!

  • Yep

  • The whining noise is i think the gears whining.

    Great video.

  • Driveshafts & Diffs whining

  • ya its the turbo then i agian it could be the diffs i forget

  • gear box not the turbo

  • The supreme champion!

  • can someone tell me what (sounds like)

    "oikke hidess" means?

  • It's ''Oikee hidas'' and that means ''Right slow''

  • pirun pitkiä oikeita

  • Fuuny, when I watches these older rally videos with drivers using the manual shifter, and drivers today when their hydrolic system stopped working and they had to switch to the shifter, yet their crashes out shortly and complained about it.

  • Right...but maybye the problem is,that the shifter is too small(in the Focus at least)

  • Some drivers can handle it. Anybody who has driven a Skoda Fabia can lmao.

  • The problem is, as said above, that the sequential shifter is too small in WRC-cars nowadays and when you start the stage you don´t expect to use it. So, if you have to, it is always a surprise and you might very easily lose your concentration.

  • Indeed,Colin the Great

  • I reckon they could still the EVO6 again few tweaks to current standards it would be just as fast as the cars of today

  • effin nice video dude!

  • The best rally driver!!!

  • no fuss, no attitude. just the fastest.

    awe inspiring

  • you've gotta love tommy, he just looks so relaxed behind the wheel only steering when it needs it and not constantly correcting. Good to see vids or mr golden boots in action. Love it.

  • such control he makes it look so easy

  • tommi makinen is legend.

i remember when he kept beating colin mcrae by like 1 pt every time. lucky

  • I was a very big fan. That Mitsubishi was considered maybe not the quickest car, but definitely the most reliable. It had a different 4-wheel drive differential setup to the other cars, meaning that you had to accelerate aggressively to get the full benefits. Makinen flourished with his aggressive style whilst Richard Burns struggled. Great driver.

  • 100% True! Tommi is still driving a Group A Lancer compared to the WRC cars used by the other teams..but still Tommi kicks ass!!! beating other drivers with ease...Tommi with Mitsubishi is a potent combination compared when he transfer to Subaru

  • Also adding to what ADudeF1 said above, you can see on the tacho that Tommi quite often short-shifts, changing gears quite early. Again this was done to get the best performance out of the engine, to maximise the torque available.

  • WRC the MOST interesting car races.

    Real cars

    Real drivers

Real roads... all over the world!

    Nothing can compare with that.

  • The co-driver calls long turns damn long. Like damn long right, damn long left.

  • Really awesome

  • great driving.... but I don't like this camera , the one on the car has a better view. where the hell do U find this vids ?!

  • this was by far the best Grp A car ever

  • True that!

  • just when you thought you knew how to drive you see this freek

  • what an AWESOME vid!..the WRC vids without music are the best. and yeah...tommi needs to come back. that guys a living legend!

  • come back Tommi, Loeb needs some competition this year.

  • Gronholm is beating him so far... But it would be interesting to see how he'd fair against them.

  • AWESOME DRIVING!!!!

  • Tommi Makinen!!! lol

  • go sainz!!
