Oh my god let me just express how fun its been spiking the holy heLL out of tress. I'm talking a tree spiking blitzkrieg here. You have no idea how much fun it is each time I jam my foot in every maple, oak, and walnut trees ass just thinking each time it's your ass and how much you are now cringing at the thought. :)
Climb a tree the way this guy does in the video and eventually you will come unstuck. Spikes slip out all the time, without adequate training someone is going to fuck themselves up and sue this cretins out of business. Just a heads up for any claim happy people out there. Happy litigation fuckers!!
You buncha ignorant tree huggers. Spikes do little or no damage to a tree that would possibly cause death to the tree....Stop ranting because you're jealous YOU dont have a pair or sport climbers. As soon as my order arrives, I'll be sure to spike the hell out of every tree I intend to climb starting with the pretty ones in the park.
@SirManley15 Spike a tree in a public park and you'll be arrested for vandalism. Spikes are for dismantling trees, not for getting a good vantage point.
I bet you could climb that tree 10 times in a year and it would be none the worse for wear. Arborists are seriously over educated. None of you know from experience that a tree will be damaged from spiking it. you only think that because thats what you learned. If I'm wrong point out some proof. Maybe soft bark trees like a maple but an oak or a pine. I doubt it.
@KOcritter spiking a live tree creates lots of wounds to the tree, which then leaves it open to diseases and infections which then go on to damage and kill the tree. thats why u shouldnt spike live trees. and how can u call arborists over educated, you have clearly never spiked a tree
its amazing how some of these people can think its funny that we arborists think its shitty to spike live trees.. tree huggers? you do relize that trees provide us with the air we breathe? ever hear of a throw ball and climbing line? works wonders on a live trees! only spike trees that are coming down! Its just a matter of pride as trees are living like us!
WOW as an arborist myself and an avid deer hunter I'd like to slap the taste outta the brain child who designed these death traps !!! And there is no reason to spur a live tree there are so many safer and tree friendlily methods for getting into the tree !!!
yah-50 open wounds to let fungus and bugs in. Only use spikes if the tree has no value for lumber and no aesthetic concern 'cause it's pretty well shot when you're done having fun. Even dead telephone poles last half as long when technicians use spikes.
I was wondering how the hell you become an experienced climber with out climbing a live tree? Perhaps practice on the telephone pole in your front yard?
I like Sportsmans Guide and all but those spikes are crap and so is the 'Pro grade lanyard'. The video makes it look nice and easy... what they don't show is what happens when an untrained climber gaffs out... which is inevitable. You haven't seen road rash till you have it on your face.
Do yourself a favor and use sticks... or better yet, learn to still hunt instead freezing your nads off in a tree stand.
Good way to fuck up a good tree. Funny, I can actually see some city-slicker whose squirrel hunting with a shotgun thinking these would be just perfect.
