a fine performance of this masterwork by beethoven - zimerman is passionate without being too emotional and is obviously is in total command of his craft - thanks stravinski and all the artists
oh, please don't knock me out. This is only the beginning of the concerto. I can hardly take it. shit, he is wearing a ring. That means somebody owns him. Damn it!
@Doug19752533 he did however give a few (no more then 3 or 4 i believe) private performances for small groups of friends as late as 1815, but never played for people after that. his nephew Karl is reported to have said that Beethoven cut the legs off one of his pianos so it would lie flat on the floor, and Ludwig would lie down, pressing his ear to the floor and play the piano so he could "hear" his music
para mi este concierto es mejor que el numero 5 , igualmente el numero 5 me gusta pero este tiene algo que hace que me guste mucho mas sobretodo el tercer movimiento
One of the greatest moments in all music is that first B flat played by the orchestra, changing the key to B major. So unexpected, but so perfect. You are suddenly plunged into a depth of emotion from one note.
I don't think people do fight against God. But people do fight against people who act as if their beliefs make them superior - as in claiming that only a God-believer can write a masterpiece.
The facts would seem to be against you on that score, so maybe you ought to question what else you might be wrong about before adding more atheist-baiting posts here.
@robawThe faith gives hope of eternity while the atheism is without hope in front of death.Beethoven said: the only form of superiority which I recognize, is kindness.
@Alecs1950 faith is only humans convincing them selves that something exists, and by faith humans admit subconsciously that what they have faith in could be false.
@deadly990 Dear Sir, Faith is a way of knowing above reason. By faith the people have known for thousands of years ago that the earth is supported on nothing. Please read the book Job cap.26 vers7.This is only an example.False or true?
So, you're saying that nothing by atheists Bartok, Berlioz, Boulez, Grainger, Janacek, Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, or Richard Strauss qualifies as a masterpiece? And who knows which other luminaries might have been atheists had they been allowed to be? Recall that atheism has been illegal for much of history.
I think that you agree with me :atheism is a religion .You chosen to not believe in god .I respect your sincerityTell me a musical masterpiece created by an atheist.Best wishes!
Thank you. I listened Arrau and Zimerman makes his interpretation alive; I intuitively prefer Zimerman. His sound and the Vienna phil. are so clear and rich as well. But of course music is of personal taste and that's why it is beautiful.
Wow this is a good quality video, I've certainly seen worse on YT. Thanks so much for posting this. I absolutely love the milk-choclate sound the WPO gets- the Wiener sound is so rich!
This orchestra is perfect for Beethoven and Zimerman is genius. He truly understands essence of Beethoven. Just an example of wonderful orcherstration, listen 1:47, how themes are changing and taking over by different instrumental groups and then culmination in 2:08.
It´s because he was instructed by the greatest Beethovenist ever, Claudio Arrau, who can trace a direct line in tutors back to the master himself. Everyone else is just guessing.
Una volta Richard Strauss disse a Edwing Fischer che suonò l'apertura di questo concerto con forse un pò troppa enfasi: "Lei, qui, deve lasciare soltanto il suo biglietto da visita."
There is a moment when Zimerman is swept by the music and looks at Bernstein (3:40), and Bernstein shakes his head in awe and concession. There is a moment when Bernstein himself is carried out of this world with the magic (2:04). A moment that makes me wonder: is this what they mean when they say someone has become immortal?
i love this concerto... This version is almost as good as Muti-Arrau (my preferred in Youtube)... Zimerman is just a little less sensible and flexible than Arrau in this concert, but is a really great one with such a beautiful sound (8:15-8:44).. even though since 8:45 he went too fast :)
@plagueofangels666 If you listen to Kyrie Eleison from Missa Solemnis you will believe in god and in Lord Jesus Christ. But listen to it several times.
No matter how beautiful the Kyrie Eleison is, it cannot (for most people, anyway) change someone's religious people's views. I adore the Missa Solemnis, have listened to the Kyrie Eleison about twenty times, and I'm still a devout atheist. However, I do agree with you on the heavenliness and ability that the Missa has to take you into the realm of the spirit.
Those qualities are also demonstrated in this concerto.
Wonderful, emotional, full of passion. Zimerman and Bernstein share a special moment at 3:43 their looks mean full understanding between them...Superb
@Ultrazone91 Yes they do! And it's funny how, once Z sees B looking at him, he lowers his arms a little bit as if to say, "Sorry Maestro, I'm not really trying to take over here."
Zimmerman has probably the best technique I've ever seen. He has a great technique, very rational, and the best of all is that he doesn't leave the expresive part aside. A great pianist indeed.
Doesn't seem ironic bc trying to make a connection between one and the other is a long reach at best. We tend to like to make connections between things that appear to us to belong in the same category, but imagining that Jazz[although I very much admire the best of Jazz as probably the best music that has been written in the 20th century excluding the work of the few true "classical composers" of that era(Strauss, the atonalists etc)] is in some way a result or even relative to Beethoven is er?
Me too. And tomorrow i´ll have the great pleasure to hear this wonderful music live in Bonn, played by Pierre-Laurent Aimard and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Moments of joy.
@eryaman4 yes indeed. I think that Gould's interpretation of the very first notes of this concerto is much different from the others, just unique and... way better! (and it's strange, i've got to admit, because we're talking about Beethoven).
@kuntakinte90 totally agree. and gould's opening notes of the recap are still different, just stunning! i adore zimerman's crystal-like sound and everything but gould's beethoven 4 is simply untouchable
I agree! In the opening minutes of Rachmaninov's Concerto No 2 you can hear both the beauty and cruelty of the Russian countryside and its soul itself.
