If they are not digested they go to the colon, where the good bacteria transform them, and go out of the body. So chia or other seeds are very good fibers and have health benefits
There's a good rule of thumb that helps with weight loss, if there's a food that wasn't around before 1900, don't eat it. Eat fresh apples, not always canned, for example :)
The chia pet novelty is actually how chia seeds are sprouted and eaten. It is difficult to sprout them without using the method that allows them to stick to something like a ceramic chia pet. The porousity of ceramic keeps the seeds moist. I've also sprouted them using round ceramic trays that go under flower pots, that you can buy at any garden center. Fully developed or as sprouts they make a nice, zingy addition to salads.
looking for anyone Spouting them for food. aside from the Chia pet novelty ,can't find out how. I'd love to find out how for juicing grass or spouts. Any links?? thanks =D
I don't know if you explained the liquid used, since I don't have audio available... I'm newly experimenting my first tries with very ripe oranges opened over small bowl of it, then just rolled some moist slices actually in the seeds dish next time. each overnight and both were quite nice, I think former moreso. also recently had it at the bottom of squash soak, and that was my favorite. formed texture like oatsmeal of recollection, even firmed hunger way such's recommended. yay gelled, dance!
Great to see you experimenting! I have used water and a bit of lemon in it - but any liquid will do, whatever you like. Try it in a bit of coffee or tea, very nice as well, if you like the taste of coffee or tea at all :-).
@ChiaNewZealand My mom asked me to take them daily, but are they poisonous is uncooked? because my school teacher told us any seed without cooked are poisonous - a natural way of protection of seeds.
@op3852 Hi, maybe it would be a good idea to ask your teacher to explain to you why they think seeds are poisonous without cooking. I am wondering how the humans would have survived in the ages before cooking was invented, if this was the case.
I have eaten them for a few years and seem to enjoy wonderful heath - but I am not a teacher, nor a doctor, so I am not able to advise you.
I have heard that nuts and seeds should be soaked before eaten, because they contain enzyme inhibitors (which makes them stop growing unless they are in damp / wet environment), and because of those enzyme inhibitors we are not able to digest the nuts/seeds unless they are soaked. You would throw away the soaking water though.
