The point about smarter planet is to combine those existing technologies, using open standards, and use them in a more intelligent way - not create a monolithic proprietary system
I agree with "edurrant"... Most of these technologies already exist in the world... why do everything all over again from scratch, just make improvements on the already existing assets
Do we really need to re-invent the wheel? The reference to the GPS telling you to take another route has already existed in Germany for 10 years, similar information that breaks into your radio station to tell you about hold-ups has been available for over 20 years!
Perhaps, since that technology already exists, it could be implemented using the SAME system standards into Australia at a lot lower cost that building a complete new solution..... Worth thinking about, right .......
It already costs users in lost time. That's the main point. I for one would be happy to pay for this system on a user pays basis, just like toll roads.
zglobal.org uses connected vehicle technology for traffic enforcement...live traffic stops of vehicles with suspended or revoked registration.

great idea, but how do you turn that into a practical working solution, giving us the actual benefit, without it costing the user??
