my almost 4 year old is autistic and Ive always wonder how he is going to be when he is older, or when he goes to middle school. i always wonder if he will have a normal life when he is 16,19,20,25,28 years old. Can you live a normal life being a autistic teen?
I have AS too. People talking and laughing really loudly close to me sounds kind of like that, but is MUCH louder. It reminds me of obnoxious microphone feedback, like in cartoons when a character is testing it. It doesn't exactly scare me, but it does make me feel very tense and trapped. Once I get to a quiet place I feel like I can breathe again.
My Two Beautiful Cousins have Autism and I've cried watching each of these videos. I hope they both become who they want to be and never have to face a day like this ever. Please think before you act, say and do. That's all I ask. Please.
wow...I think have autism now. I thought i was just claustrophobic but i do notice the tiniest amount of information in my environment like this guy, although my case is not so severe. I talk randomly with the strangers...there's so many interesting stuff in the world when I don't close up. I still feel like it every now and then...the feeling of a claustrophobia and ringing of the train or bus. I pissed myself when I was in the store once. Now, it's que sera sera.
Even though I have Asperger Syndrome, I wouldn't find various things that it is said Some people with more severe cases of the syndrome find distressing (i.e. the things covered in this film, along with things like Dogs barking) scary or distressing, they simply piss me off and annoy me.
@kitsune720 No - basically, since the main weakness of autistic spectrum disorders is socialising and interacting with others (which is something that has to be done pretty much constantly throughout life), this might make the person feel constantly intimidated and afraid. I think that's what this was trying to get across.
HA HA!! I rode the bus for years and just learned to deal with being overstimulated. I would always carry a journal on the bus to write about the crazy people on-board. When I go to a store I tend to sweat like a fountain and freak out, grocery stores are too much for me to handle!
Great video! This demonstrates how many people on the autism spectrum can't stand noise and crowds. I can't handle huge crowds, but I can handle riding the bus.
Puzzles Forever. I'm diagnosed with A.S., and they're thinking about putting me on medications. I don't want medications ruining my life. Even though I'm depressed, I'm aware that medications can ruin my entire being!
That's sensory overload...I was thinking today about it when I was taking a walk and I was looking for a word, the best I could come up with was "implosion" (that;s how I feel when I get sensory overload). It's funny, you said explosion. Anyway, there is no need for people to talk loud and obnoxious, it is different if it's a baby or child, but grown ups should not be loud like that in confined spaces, I am pretty sure it bothers NTs also.
This is actors recreating a journey, all I do and film is for real, so that the bus journey this so wantonly copies that is on the video "outside in" is for real, I took my video onto the bus and filmed whatever happened.
I love this series, it actually makes an effort to portray dificulties and in adults too. Usually people only care about the kids with it. I'm terrified of buses and those sorts of situations so I really relate to this.
i sometimes overload but sound and my surrounding dont affect me. i get a scared feeling when near nuns because my mum said they cane you and that scared me because i dont want to get caned
Poor Daniel! People with autism often feel anxious enough to look around themselves as if a baby were looking around in the world it's in, especially in a room full of people.
theres another interesting website about asperger's. type down Supporting Asperger Families in Essex. I attend a club on the 3rd wednesday of every month run by SAFE called Southend Youth club.
Very good film, i have Asperger's syndrome as well, and I sometimes find it very difficult walking around in town with many people i have no idea who they are, i get soemtimes get on well on a bus ride, but i don't stare at people in case they'll stare at me and try to talk to me.
I've got Asperger Syndrome also and I know that everyone is affected in different ways, for example I have issues with Social Interaction and Etiquette (see Receptionist) but if I seen an RTA or when I travel on Public Transport, I'm more than fine with it.
But there is a guy at College who also has Aspergers and these problems don't affect him at all that have been highlighted, his problem is that he can't tell the time or organise himself very well. It can affect anybody in any way at all.
This is a load of absolute rubbish. I've got Asperger's Syndrome, and last time I travelled on the bus, I didn't have a meth trip. The bell didn't sound like something from Can't Touch This either.
I think that this video portrays Asperger Syndrome very well. He didn't seem scared to me; maybe a bit annoyed though. His watch was possibly his quiet place where everyone else can make it seem like theres an alien party going on around him that somehow involves him but he doesn't "get it". We aspies can be self-centered in our thinking.
I myself related very well to this one. I've been misdiagnosed with Social Phobia Disorder for a long time because of experiences exactly on this level. I've had to ride on a bus before like that, and I didn't like it at all. In situations like that I just want to get out of them. That's where my misdiagnosis of Panic Disorder comes in. Its very easy for me to get sensory overload in social situations.
I have Asperger's Syndrome, and while I was scared of things other people weren't when I was a child, I eventually grew out of it. Do these people honestly believe that this is how people with Asperger's see the world? If so, maybe they should RESEARCH the subject a bit before making assumptions. So if you have this, your senses are basically just over-stimulated? Youre hyper-alert about everything? O.o

This video is perfect!
I remembered an advertisement on the subject here in Brazil
about autism that said "While there is a 1% chance
there will be 99% of hope "I have great respect for these people, after all, are human beings like you and me.

Autism is an abnormal condition
but is also very inspiring for human
to understand how the brain functions.
It remind us that what constitute 'normal'
is a complex issue, it is only a
by-product of our highly specialized mind
well-adapted to survive in society.
In the vast domain of nature, humanity seems
like an illusion.

Maybe the guy in this video did appear to be getting "annoyed" but with Asperger's, people appear "annoyed" when in fact they are becoming "scared".
I haven't got Asperger's, but that bus journey illustrated how crazy day-to-day situations these days are for everyone. :)

I think they needed to film different people in different ads. That would have made it more accurate.
Nonetheless, it's better than all of the other autism ads out there.

Alright, I was a bit harsh there, but still, having autism isn't like being on an acid trip every day of your life.
I could definately relate with the other PIFs in this series though.
