IMiRZAJee:You are really something. In 1948 this record was in our house with other of K.L.Saigal,Satya Chowdhury,Kanan devi I was only four years old.My Dad bought the Gramophone which was like Briefcase. India was divided in three parts which I did not know. However you brought my nostalgia back. Thank you.
It is irony that Amirbai Karnataki being such a melodious singer with mature voice had to quit singing and shift to acting in fifties just to make the two ends meet i.e. for the sake of livelihood, due to intense competition in singing, inspite of being endowed with such a beautiful voice and style of her own stamp and her songs in films like Kismat, Ratan having become super-hits in forties.
They were all trying to match Suraiya and Shamshad Begum. The best advice Lata got was to stop doing it and sing in her natural voice. The rest is history.
wah...good old days.
