@KievanTiger So are you saying the other 11 pieces in Rachmaninoff's book of Transcriptions are his, but this one is not, or are all 12 pieces forgeries?
Do you have a link to what you claim is Rachmaninoff's true version or didn't he do one?
Are you saying he didn't record any of the 35 piano rolls that have been documented, or only this one? I have Disklavier versions of all 35 pieces of his performances.
@KievanTiger If you read my comment, you'd realize Wikipedia was just one of 3 sources verifying this version. Do you dispute the other two? Is one out of three "way too much"?
@10UnderScore10: If you're right, then Wikipedia, Warner Bros. Publications, and the publishers of Immortal Pianists Series are all wrong.
As stated in the description above, this performance was recorded by Rachmaninoff on an Ampico reproducing piano. It is note-for-note the same as the version in Warner Bros. book of Rachmaninoff's transcriptions.
A full description of Rachmaninoff's piano roll work is on his Wikipedia page in the paragraph beginning "From 1919 he made 35 piano rolls..."
I can't stop listening. His playing is phenomal and it is with proofs like that that we can understand why he was regarded as the piano god by most pianists of the time
@klik13 Wow, very observant. I never noticed that. Well, it's Rachmaninoff's own arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's piece. I guess if he wanted to change it on the fly, he can. Nice ears.
It has been said that Rachmaninoff was paid $1000 for this piece by Ampico. It is a very short piece and he apparently was thrilled to gull them out of that much cash.
Bravooo Rachmaninoff(?)/ the Invisible Man!!! Amazing & fantastic performance*^-^* Really great & I luv it!! Thank you so much for making and sharing this scary ghost piano video!!!*^-^*
I love this piece. It's beautifully executed. If perfection existed in such a state of fluidity of our life flow, it would be in musical compositions just as this. Thanks for posting :)

@KievanTiger OK, I'll have to concede that everyone else is wrong. It must be nice to be the only one who's right.

Ouch on the hands if you had to play it.....
mosprime2 1 year ago
@Darwinknowsbetter Ha ha...no, sorry. The sheet music is in the shot just because I have it and play it myself. It's Rachmaninoff's arrangement.
The piano is playing a file that was transferred from a piano roll of his performance of his own arrangement back in the 1940's.

I didn't knwo Rachmaninoff wrote this song!
I've never even heard of him until last year.
He's my favorite composer!
natetitus52 1 year ago
@natetitus52 He didn't write it, Rimsky-Korsakov wrote the original form. Rachmaninov made the arrangement for solo piano.

Somehow, I find it hard to believe that Thomas Alva Edison, inventor of the audio recording, and the lightbulb, said this of Sergei Rachmaninoff:
"He's merely a pounder, nothing more."
JupiterIV 2 years ago
What would Edison know about music?
wks1978 2 years ago 2
Well, I think it *would* help to also know that Edison was partially deaf in both ears, which was caused by his days as a railway telegraph operator.
JupiterIV 2 years ago
Wow! Thats just soo freakin awesome. I want your piano :) Im actually learning this song right now.
THS33 2 years ago
cool! How much does that piano cost?
kbtokyo 2 years ago
Disklaviers can sometimes be found for as little as $10,000 or less for used uprights. The larger, more expensive grands cost much more.
