He looks like hes a tank at 6'5 265lbs. However he got way out of shape in the NFL pushing 300lbs.
The tough part is that hes blessed with the strongest arm in NFL history. I really want to know how well he'd play if he was in shape & applied himself to being a NFL player. I had said similar things about Mike Williams and he popped up back in the NFL and is playing like a #10 pick. Huge rehabilitation project.

@fahkqueue You got any link to 1/2 of the GM's saying he wasnt on their board? I've got some old links from pre-draft where his performance at his Pro Day opened the eyes of plenty of GM's and solidifed him as the #1 pick. Everything else that happened after he got drafted is his own fault. However, I really have to wonder how so many scouts missed on him. I'll be curious to see what he does if he gets a 2nd chance, even Ryan Leaf got a 2nd and 3rd opportunity.
@DEADFRESHhou Notice he was looking pretty good his first two seasons. But he got lazy. He got out of shape and stopped caring. Russell is Ryan Leaf 2.0. He's clumsy, has no pocket presence, misses wide open targets, and coughs up the ball even when he's barely touched. Seriously, this dude is so bad it's not even funny. People can say the Raiders organization as a whole sucks, but the film doesn't lie. Dude is ridiculously inaccurate and made some of the most idiotic decision you'll ever see from a starting QB. He shouldn't be in the NFL. The only league he'd PROBABLY do well in is Pop Warner.
First, what's your point? He did well in college. And? So did a lot of other college standouts turned pro busts. And second, he can thank players like the Chiefs' Dwayne Bowe, the Cardinals' Early Doucet, and the Chargers' Craig Davis for the numbers he put up through the air in college, particularly 2006, his final year. They made him look better than he really was. All three of them are shown in the upload above; you can't miss it.
What I said was a response to someone saying he can't play at all, which is a load of crap, even with these players the guy is a good college player, thats why he outshined everyone at the combine he has the physical tools needed for a pro. Just not the brains.
doesnt he look more mobile in college? He seems so stale and scared of running the ball himself. He gets so much time in the pocket and never throws the ball, so why not run if there is an open field rather than throw the ball out of bounds? Russell, needs to step his game up
sure he has a cannon for an arm but dude aint got no accuracy and cant put the raiders on his back and carry them to victory. sure this dude his thing at the college level. BUT you in the pros now and cant do JACK SHIT!! Just JaMarcus SUCKS!!
Russell aint throwing on the run in Oakland. He is on my hot seat Monday against the Chargers. He needs to scramble more and stop looking up the field so long.RUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN SCRAMBLE FOOL!! It could help our team more if he would scramble and loose some fucken weight.Elway was smaller and not fast but made plays by keeping the ball for scrambles, trust me im a Raiders fan and he ate us up for years in close games with scrambles.Russell is pussy til he scrambles more.
And if you want to go Race card on the qb's Let's...Not since Doug Williams has the NFL seen a (black) qb that was a pure pocket passer...Mcnabb is good but he has always been a sub-par finisher, even at Syracuse....(my points are not baseless--I do my homework befor I run my mouth)...FYI-----Culpepper was just a product of Randy Moss' field preasence..He hasn't played to that level since being with Moss. Media was doggin Freeman, until they got those OTA-reports now they want to be all in his..
Mcnabb may not be a pure pocket passer but that man can throw the ball. In recent years he has been running a lot less. Less than 50 carries a year for the last few years. As he has aged and slowed down his % has gone up and his rushing numbers have fallen. If it was only Randy then why didn't the raiders do well? The QB must be decent and have an arm. Cassel can't throw deep and moss suffered last year. Culpepper was part of that equation.
Well said!!! I was very disappointed in Culpepper, after the seasons with the Raiders, he couldn't even hold down the starting position, and only 'got up' for a revenge match against Miami. But your points are right and exact!!!
As many great things that McNabb has done for Philly'---He choked it up in the SuperBowl....He had more than one chance to seal the deal against NE---and he pulled a Gannon.....Many don't want to hear it But T.O. was right, he was out of gas midway through the third quarter, I couldn't hear him 'huffin'&puffin'(per-t.o.) in the huttle, but he looked out of shape down the stretch.....But he is still the man.....Just ill-prepared for the SB....
Here's what they scared-of------JaMarcus is a young Doug Williams......Watch Williams' film from Washington Redskins...He was never even been mentioned by analyst, because they want to act as though that year never took place...The dismantling of the skins the year after the SB--was quick and quiet....But JRuss...is locked and cocked..for a few years....Their gonna hate but he is gonna win a lot of games. And Al is gonna stick it to mofo's one more time befor he bail's--LONG LIVE AL DAVIS.....
Don't hold your breath on that one when he takes hayward-bay at #7 lol. Al davis needs to stay outta the way and let modern day professionals pick the players. Horrible draft once again.
I had Bey as a late 1st early 2nd rounder. I was really expecting them to take crabtree even though they are weird about size/speed. That team has a bunch of players that on paper should be studs but they aren't.
if you are implying that this has anything to do with race, it doesn't. Mcnabb is great, culpepper was, i think Josh Freeman can be something awesome.
The only reason you were 'expecting' the Raiders to take Crabtree is because espn told you t think that way......I liked Bey over---Crabtree long befor the draft. Health being the number one reason. HE HAS STRESS-FRACTURES IN BOTH LEGS!!!!!---Not including the ankle surgery....He was on the cover of SI- IN A BOOT--FORCRYINOUTLOUD!!!...I wanted Raji or Maualuga, but Bey was my offensive pick...We got Maclin in JLH..Bey(with time) and Schelins should be a great 1.2-punch...
We both know where you get picked doesn't always garauntee a star! Remember--Coulter for the Saints?....Crabs' may turn out to be all that. But his 'good' skill set is not exactly what the Raiders needed.....I am yet to find a clip on here of him breakin' the long one...We got the underneath guys in JLH and Chaz/Walker---Beware the spread offense in college, it can make a receiver/qb--look better than they are!!!
It's safe to say the speed in the NFL is way faster than college. Once this kid makes some adjustments, like his decision making and reads, he'll be a force for a long time to come.
He starts for the raiders... who else is going to start? lol. Russel has struggled with learning the playbook and reading defenses. He may not have the intellect to play pro qb at a high level.
Of course, making the adjustment to the pros from college ball is a huge one. It's why most QBs need a couple of years on the bench before they're ever ready. You throw a rookie out there with almost nobody to throw to, and no kind of offensive line blocking for him, and a team had better not be expecting miracles. You draft a quarterback as a long term solution, knowing there must be an adjustment period. Yet everybody wants to judge Russell after only one season.
He's having basic problems even learning the plays or reading the defenses... these aren't the normal rookie struggles. Given, he has nobody to throw to but he seems like he doesn't know whats going on out there. I'm not writing russell off yet, he does have the biggest arm ive ever seen. He also was sacked 31 times and fumbled 12 times... A touch of Byron Leftwich and David Carr in there?
Are you serious? Those are completely normal rookie mistakes. Of course you don't mention how he keeps the interceptions down, unlike most rookiess. You're digging for reasons to hate him, you don't have anything valid to argue with. What you should be asking is how a team that once had the likes of Upshaw and Shell lining up for them has let their O-line go to hell the way it has. Of course he was sacked a lot. The O-line sucks. You want to talk busts, look at Alex Smith.
No reason to fumble the ball that much. The O-line does suck but he's also slow to make decisions and that leads to sacks (think Byron Leftwich, David Carr). But yes alex smith is a huge bust. The reporting on Russell has suggested that he has trouble learning a playbook. I have plenty to argue with... stats 8 picks in 15 games is not keeping the ints down, its decent. 53% completions is quite low for an average of 6.6 (dismal), 31sacks, 12 fumbles (Horrible) He was probably doomed anyway.
What do you mean 'decent'? He threw less interceptions than most of the QBs in league. Of course the completion percentage isn't good when there's only one good receiver, and the running game is unreliable. Just look at the Atlanta game last year. The completely shut down the run, blow away the Raiders defense and somehow he's supposed to fix it? It's a team effort, and the rest of the team ain't playing any better than him. But he's going to be better than Stabler or Plunkett. Watch and see.
You just expect too much. Somehow you expect a rookie QB to rescue a terrible team from itself. They were 2-14 when he joined them, and coming off a succession of veteran QBs who couldn't do anything for the Raiders. If you were going to be realistic about it, you should be thrilled that he put up the numbers he did as opposed to what Vince Young did for a much, much better team. Go ahead, look at Young's first and second season stats again, then complain about Russell.
Vince Young sucks donkey butt too. I expect 2nd year quarterbacks to read defenses, to know the playbook, and not to fumble the ball every time they get hit.. I'm not asking for much. Matt Ryan is a better example of what a young QB on a then awful team should be. Even Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco had superior rookie year compared to Russel in year 2. Does Baltimore have shit on offense when mcgahee is hurt? They both completed 60% for 80+ QB ratings.. thats what a high paid rookie should do.
What a guy should do? For a $60 million contract, a person SHOULD solve all the world's problems. . Fact is, both Ryan and Flacco play for good teams, Super Bowl contenders, and in Ryan's case, a high-powered offense. You plug Russell into that offense, and you'll get pretty much the same stats. Ryan is no genius. He's got one of the best running backs around backing him up, a good offensive line and great receivers. You don't think it all factors in? Then you don't understand football.
Do you have massive memory loss or something? The year before atlanta picked ryan they were 4-12, they were awful... Yes they picked up turner but Matt Ryan leads that team. That team went 4-12 to making the playoffs in large part from having a QB that can throw the ball (not michael vick but don't get me started on him) Before Flacco, the ravens were 5-11. I'll admit russel is surrounded by mostly shit players but he doesn't make anyone better the way the ryan/flacco do. Ryan saved Roddy.
Of course Atlanta was awful. They had Harrington at QB. That's enough by itself, and without Turner. Redman did better, but too late. Matt Ryan would be nothing if he was playing for somebody like the Lions. And in Flacco's case, he's got a defense that will get him the ball all day long And a guy called Mason to throw too. 100 catches even without Flacco in 2007. Show me a rookie QB on a worse team than the Raiders who had a better season than Russel.. If you can do that, you'll have a case.
ok easy... tyler thigpen. Technically last year was his 2nd year like russel but it was the first time he saw any real action. In 14 games he had 18 touchdowns for 2600+ yards. He was sacked 26 times, almost as much as Russel. Its debatable whether they are worse than oakland but they are near the bottom in almost every category... so yea tyler thigpen...
That's a pretty good point except for 4 words. Tony Gonzalez, Dwayne Bowe. These two guys put up the numbers they do no matter who's throwing to them. Russell did have a slightly higher QB rating despite that. Thigpen's completion percentage was only 1% higher. Think you're gonna have to keep looking.
But in the same offense Brodie Croyle flopped. Thigpen only started 11 of those games for 18 tds and 12 picks. The TD/INT ratio is something to be considered. Maybe i was a bit harsh on russel in calling him a bust, it is too early to tell. He does have a howizter for an arm but I do expect a little more from him given that he held out for more money and is now one of the highest paid in football. Tyler Thigpen probably makes in a year what Russell does in a game.
I am not sure if he is going to reach bust status or not, but you have to marvel at that rocket arm. He is rolling out, throwing off the wrong foot and the ball travels 60-65 yards in the air. Insane arm strength.
its not fair to call him a bust, he has no help, no line, no receivers, and when the raiders have a chance to get him some reliable hands... well they select speed.
the play starting at 1:20 isn't a touchdown. you can see that he stepped out and that the ref is running to the spot where he went out to make the ruling
the only reason he looked good was because of dwayne bowe and you can tell bowe has had alot more success with a bad team and an even worse quarterback
Shear ignorance. Russell is absolutely not a running QB and never has been. He is also known as notoriously accurate passer. There's no truth to anything you wrote...so why write it? Russell threw more TD's than INTs last year with one of the WORST receiving corps in football and a subpar offensive line.
Truth: In his second year, the first overall pick can't even come close to touching a legit QB like Matt Ryan. Ryan took a team that went 4-12 last year and made it to the playoffs. If Ryan can do it with that bad of a team, shouldn't Russell be able to at least throw a little bit? 53 completion rate? Are you kidding? Don't tell me you guys have bad receivers. I live in Cleveland. I know all about bad receivers, and the Raiders' corps is fine.
not even close to a truth. With an equal team around him he's as good or better than Ryan. Arguing with someone as ignorant about football as you is pointless. keep living in fantasy...and please, don't forget to compare Jamarcus' stats with Ryans' at the end of their careers, and then smack yourself in the head and say 'wow...that guy was right, I really am stupid'.
to bad the raiders are just awful at drafting. they did good on russell and were so proud they got him that they forgot that he needs some help out there. mcfadden is aight, but not the right pick, out of the top RBs in last years draft they got the worst one, because they look at the 40 time and thats it. football is more then just speed, they need a tackle in the first round, and then actually look past the 40 time and see which is the best wr left in the draft.
mayb if the raiders got some wide recievers who can make plays russell cud just hurl it up 4 them cuz at lsu he had early doucet and dwayne bowe so he cud heave it up and they wud come down with it
Well the raiders dont need to upgrade lien but change line style that line is bulit for running not passing so teach them how to pass bluck danm it GO Raiders 8-8
for retard gtzluxury it is his very first nfl season starting and hes only threw 3 int in 6 games this guy will be one of THE best Raiders qb's of all time
The Raiders do NOT need to upgrade the lien. Russell is a pussy. I am a huge Raider fan, I just think that Russell is over rated like a motherfucker. He throws away almost all of his passes. He's only scrambled like 2 times this year. 2nd and 9 is better than 2nd and 10. All he has to do is scramble at least a yard instead of throwin it away. He is 6'6 260....bigger than half the people tryin to tackle his. Suck it up pussy and drop a shoulder...
He does need to run the ball more instead of throwing it away, i'll give you that. But it all comes with experience and I'm pretty sure this guy will be great. Patience!
I dont think so. I think he needs to keep throwing it away taking care of himself and the ball, and we need a better O line so he can have time for play to develop, im tired of every pass being a play action
da main reason he did so well in LSU is cuz of an outstanding offensive line..Not taking any credit off him but if da raiders want him to succeed dey need to upgrade dat oline
i dont mean to be stereotypical, but it seems like all the black qbs are only good for scrambling and they cant really throw well. Hope the same isnt true for russell.
he's 6'6" and weighed 290 at camp in 2008 but then dropped to 260 at the end of training. he's a big guy and has a huge frame. trust me, he's not fat. lol. the guy towers over me and im 6'2' 200 pounds.
First of all, Jamarcus DID NOT at any point weight 300 lbs in camp. He reported to camp at 265...the 300 lb report was a total farce. Trust me...I've shaken the man's hand. There is NO FAT on this guy at all.
I think this guy is going to be awesome. Im a Raiders fan, and I see a huge upside to this guy. I also like the fact that they don't want to put a whole lot of pressure on him, so they want to emphasize the running game. I think by next year, Oakland will continue to build around him. Anyone that says shit about J-Rock are idiots, this guy has the ability to be a great QB, and he will be within a few years
The plays in this vid got JaMarcus Russell $32 MILLION...

ProClutch22 2 years ago
First, what's your point? He did well in college. And? So did a lot of other college standouts turned pro busts. And second, he can thank players like the Chiefs' Dwayne Bowe, the Cardinals' Early Doucet, and the Chargers' Craig Davis for the numbers he put up through the air in college, particularly 2006, his final year. They made him look better than he really was. All three of them are shown in the upload above; you can't miss it.
serrribral 2 years ago
What I said was a response to someone saying he can't play at all, which is a load of crap, even with these players the guy is a good college player, thats why he outshined everyone at the combine he has the physical tools needed for a pro. Just not the brains.
ProClutch22 2 years ago
doesnt he look more mobile in college? He seems so stale and scared of running the ball himself. He gets so much time in the pocket and never throws the ball, so why not run if there is an open field rather than throw the ball out of bounds? Russell, needs to step his game up
gswarrior15 2 years ago
sure he has a cannon for an arm but dude aint got no accuracy and cant put the raiders on his back and carry them to victory. sure this dude his thing at the college level.

It could help our team more if he would scramble and loose some fucken weight.Elway was smaller and not fast but made plays by keeping the ball for scrambles, trust me im a Raiders fan and he ate us up for years in close games with scrambles.Russell is pussy til he scrambles more.

bladeinass 2 years ago
And if you want to go Race card on the qb's Let's...Not since Doug Williams has the NFL seen a (black) qb that was a pure pocket passer...Mcnabb is good but he has always been a sub-par finisher, even at Syracuse....(my points are not baseless--I do my homework befor I run my mouth)...FYI-----Culpepper was just a product of Randy Moss' field preasence..He hasn't played to that level since being with Moss. Media was doggin Freeman, until they got those OTA-reports now they want to be all in his..
bigjbzzl 2 years ago
Mcnabb may not be a pure pocket passer but that man can throw the ball. In recent years he has been running a lot less. Less than 50 carries a year for the last few years. As he has aged and slowed down his % has gone up and his rushing numbers have fallen. If it was only Randy then why didn't the raiders do well? The QB must be decent and have an arm. Cassel can't throw deep and moss suffered last year. Culpepper was part of that equation.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
Well said!!! I was very disappointed in Culpepper, after the seasons with the Raiders, he couldn't even hold down the starting position, and only 'got up' for a revenge match against Miami. But your points are right and exact!!!
bigjbzzl 2 years ago
As many great things that McNabb has done for Philly'---He choked it up in the SuperBowl....He had more than one chance to seal the deal against NE---and he pulled a Gannon.....Many don't want to hear it But T.O. was right, he was out of gas midway through the third quarter, I couldn't hear him 'huffin'&puffin'(per-t.o.) in the huttle, but he looked out of shape down the stretch.....But he is still the man.....Just ill-prepared for the SB....
bigjbzzl 2 years ago
I know I messed up--He was/He has never..and their/they're gonna....for you grammar fiends....
bigjbzzl 2 years ago
Here's what they scared-of------JaMarcus is a young Doug Williams......Watch Williams' film from Washington Redskins...He was never even been mentioned by analyst, because they want to act as though that year never took place...The dismantling of the skins the year after the SB--was quick and quiet....But JRuss...is locked and cocked..for a few years....Their gonna hate but he is gonna win a lot of games. And Al is gonna stick it to mofo's one more time befor he bail's--LONG LIVE AL DAVIS.....
bigjbzzl 2 years ago
Don't hold your breath on that one when he takes hayward-bay at #7 lol. Al davis needs to stay outta the way and let modern day professionals pick the players. Horrible draft once again.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
I wish to hell they would have taken English or Orakpo first. Murphy might end up being better than Bey, and Schillens better than both of them.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
I had Bey as a late 1st early 2nd rounder. I was really expecting them to take crabtree even though they are weird about size/speed. That team has a bunch of players that on paper should be studs but they aren't.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
What a Hater would say, for $400. Alex....
bigjbzzl 2 years ago
if you are implying that this has anything to do with race, it doesn't. Mcnabb is great, culpepper was, i think Josh Freeman can be something awesome.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
The only reason you were 'expecting' the Raiders to take Crabtree is because espn told you t think that way......I liked Bey over---Crabtree long befor the draft. Health being the number one reason. HE HAS STRESS-FRACTURES IN BOTH LEGS!!!!!---Not including the ankle surgery....He was on the cover of SI- IN A BOOT--FORCRYINOUTLOUD!!!...I wanted Raji or Maualuga, but Bey was my offensive pick...We got Maclin in JLH..Bey(with time) and Schelins should be a great 1.2-punch...
bigjbzzl 2 years ago
No, because he is a 2x winner of the best WR in college football. He has much better hands than Bey.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
We both know where you get picked doesn't always garauntee a star! Remember--Coulter for the Saints?....Crabs' may turn out to be all that. But his 'good' skill set is not exactly what the Raiders needed.....I am yet to find a clip on here of him breakin' the long one...We got the underneath guys in JLH and Chaz/Walker---Beware the spread offense in college, it can make a receiver/qb--look better than they are!!!

hugggyion 2 years ago
No way is he a bust. Observe Vince Young and Matt Leinart sitting on the bench, while JaMarcus is still the starter for his team.
Inanimatus 2 years ago 3
He starts for the raiders... who else is going to start? lol. Russel has struggled with learning the playbook and reading defenses. He may not have the intellect to play pro qb at a high level.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
Of course, making the adjustment to the pros from college ball is a huge one. It's why most QBs need a couple of years on the bench before they're ever ready. You throw a rookie out there with almost nobody to throw to, and no kind of offensive line blocking for him, and a team had better not be expecting miracles. You draft a quarterback as a long term solution, knowing there must be an adjustment period. Yet everybody wants to judge Russell after only one season.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
He's having basic problems even learning the plays or reading the defenses... these aren't the normal rookie struggles. Given, he has nobody to throw to but he seems like he doesn't know whats going on out there. I'm not writing russell off yet, he does have the biggest arm ive ever seen. He also was sacked 31 times and fumbled 12 times... A touch of Byron Leftwich and David Carr in there?
Profairpotm 2 years ago
Are you serious? Those are completely normal rookie mistakes. Of course you don't mention how he keeps the interceptions down, unlike most rookiess. You're digging for reasons to hate him, you don't have anything valid to argue with. What you should be asking is how a team that once had the likes of Upshaw and Shell lining up for them has let their O-line go to hell the way it has. Of course he was sacked a lot. The O-line sucks. You want to talk busts, look at Alex Smith.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
No reason to fumble the ball that much. The O-line does suck but he's also slow to make decisions and that leads to sacks (think Byron Leftwich, David Carr). But yes alex smith is a huge bust. The reporting on Russell has suggested that he has trouble learning a playbook. I have plenty to argue with... stats 8 picks in 15 games is not keeping the ints down, its decent. 53% completions is quite low for an average of 6.6 (dismal), 31sacks, 12 fumbles (Horrible) He was probably doomed anyway.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
What do you mean 'decent'? He threw less interceptions than most of the QBs in league. Of course the completion percentage isn't good when there's only one good receiver, and the running game is unreliable. Just look at the Atlanta game last year. The completely shut down the run, blow away the Raiders defense and somehow he's supposed to fix it? It's a team effort, and the rest of the team ain't playing any better than him. But he's going to be better than Stabler or Plunkett. Watch and see.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
You just expect too much. Somehow you expect a rookie QB to rescue a terrible team from itself. They were 2-14 when he joined them, and coming off a succession of veteran QBs who couldn't do anything for the Raiders. If you were going to be realistic about it, you should be thrilled that he put up the numbers he did as opposed to what Vince Young did for a much, much better team. Go ahead, look at Young's first and second season stats again, then complain about Russell.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
Vince Young sucks donkey butt too. I expect 2nd year quarterbacks to read defenses, to know the playbook, and not to fumble the ball every time they get hit.. I'm not asking for much. Matt Ryan is a better example of what a young QB on a then awful team should be. Even Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco had superior rookie year compared to Russel in year 2. Does Baltimore have shit on offense when mcgahee is hurt? They both completed 60% for 80+ QB ratings.. thats what a high paid rookie should do.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
What a guy should do? For a $60 million contract, a person SHOULD solve all the world's problems. . Fact is, both Ryan and Flacco play for good teams, Super Bowl contenders, and in Ryan's case, a high-powered offense. You plug Russell into that offense, and you'll get pretty much the same stats. Ryan is no genius. He's got one of the best running backs around backing him up, a good offensive line and great receivers. You don't think it all factors in? Then you don't understand football.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
Do you have massive memory loss or something? The year before atlanta picked ryan they were 4-12, they were awful... Yes they picked up turner but Matt Ryan leads that team. That team went 4-12 to making the playoffs in large part from having a QB that can throw the ball (not michael vick but don't get me started on him) Before Flacco, the ravens were 5-11. I'll admit russel is surrounded by mostly shit players but he doesn't make anyone better the way the ryan/flacco do. Ryan saved Roddy.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
Of course Atlanta was awful. They had Harrington at QB. That's enough by itself, and without Turner. Redman did better, but too late. Matt Ryan would be nothing if he was playing for somebody like the Lions. And in Flacco's case, he's got a defense that will get him the ball all day long And a guy called Mason to throw too. 100 catches even without Flacco in 2007. Show me a rookie QB on a worse team than the Raiders who had a better season than Russel.. If you can do that, you'll have a case.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
ok easy... tyler thigpen.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
That's a pretty good point except for 4 words. Tony Gonzalez, Dwayne Bowe. These two guys put up the numbers they do no matter who's throwing to them. Russell did have a slightly higher QB rating despite that. Thigpen's completion percentage was only 1% higher. Think you're gonna have to keep looking.
Inanimatus 2 years ago
But in the same offense Brodie Croyle flopped. Thigpen only started 11 of those games for 18 tds and 12 picks. The TD/INT ratio is something to be considered. Maybe i was a bit harsh on russel in calling him a bust, it is too early to tell. He does have a howizter for an arm but I do expect a little more from him given that he held out for more money and is now one of the highest paid in football. Tyler Thigpen probably makes in a year what Russell does in a game.
Profairpotm 2 years ago
@Inanimatus Haha, he's probably a worst bust then Ryan Leaf. lol

I am not sure if he is going to reach bust status or not, but you have to marvel at that rocket arm. He is rolling out, throwing off the wrong foot and the ball travels 60-65 yards in the air. Insane arm strength.
utepminerfan 2 years ago 2
its not fair to call him a bust, he has no help, no line, no receivers, and when the raiders have a chance to get him some reliable hands... well they select speed.
dallascowboyz0wnyou 2 years ago
the play starting at 1:20 isn't a touchdown. you can see that he stepped out and that the ref is running to the spot where he went out to make the ruling

Shear ignorance. Russell is absolutely not a running QB and never has been. He is also known as notoriously accurate passer. There's no truth to anything you wrote...so why write it? Russell threw more TD's than INTs last year with one of the WORST receiving corps in football and a subpar offensive line.
rik0366 2 years ago
Truth: In his second year, the first overall pick can't even come close to touching a legit QB like Matt Ryan. Ryan took a team that went 4-12 last year and made it to the playoffs. If Ryan can do it with that bad of a team, shouldn't Russell be able to at least throw a little bit? 53 completion rate? Are you kidding? Don't tell me you guys have bad receivers. I live in Cleveland. I know all about bad receivers, and the Raiders' corps is fine.
BEPforboston 2 years ago
not even close to a truth. With an equal team around him he's as good or better than Ryan. Arguing with someone as ignorant about football as you is pointless. keep living in fantasy...and please, don't forget to compare Jamarcus' stats with Ryans' at the end of their careers, and then smack yourself in the head and say 'wow...that guy was right, I really am stupid'.
rik0366 2 years ago
if the raiders fix their line, and draft a solid QR like crabtree, russell will work wonders
dallascowboyz0wnyou 2 years ago
to bad the raiders are just awful at drafting. they did good on russell and were so proud they got him that they forgot that he needs some help out there. mcfadden is aight, but not the right pick, out of the top RBs in last years draft they got the worst one, because they look at the 40 time and thats it. football is more then just speed, they need a tackle in the first round, and then actually look past the 40 time and see which is the best wr left in the draft.

Patience!
