  • This is only the second half of the song. If you want to get the full effect of why Stuart is so pissed off later on, you have to know that a couple of guys actually ran up on stage, pursued by security (not shown in this video). It's shown on another video entitled "big country inwards live the seer tour". Audio isn't as good as this one, but you gotta check this out.

  • I can't believe how a band this talented slipped thru the cracks. A tragedy within a tragedy. Very underrated! I'm a rush fan, and this album is better than the last 10 albums rush has made period.

  • There´s a much better version of this song on your right. Both audio and vid is better, But still: Thanks for posting.

    Stewart R.I.P.

  • looks like the stage in Nijmegen...1986 Loved the castle in the back.

  • This venue is The Pier, New York City 1986. Behind the castle was an aircraft carrier.

  • What a gentleman. And how great to carry on exactly where they left off...amazing band and RIP Stuart..xx

  • i just love the way he plays lead guitar not looking at guitar, then looks 2 bruce....then stops song!

    a real hero,such a talent.

    stay alive.

  • look at his face at 5.11 looks gutted, looking out for his fans, rip stu

  • at 2.52 you mean. He's playing along happily until he notices those guys fighting and keeps a bead on them the whole time. Noone else in the band saw it I think, Bruce looked pissed that he stopped the song.

  • exactly! Stuart looks well concerned....sorts it, then totally plays his arse off!

  • wow what an excellent version xxxx

  • really cool clip, completly sums up what a great guy stuart was.i shook his hand once at a gig back in the 80's,i'll never forget it.rest in peace stuart.

  • My Dad has got this video

  • lump to my throat..wow..greatest scottish band ever

  • we love you Big Country

  • best band period

  • Never mind, I'll save you the trouble: "mensh"...1. A human being. 2. An upright, honourable, decent person. 3. Someone of consequence; someone to admire and emulate; someone of noble character...It is hard to convey the special sense of respect, dignity, approbation, that can be conveyed by calling someone 'a real mensh'...The key to being 'a real mensh' is nothing less than character: rectitude, dignity, a sense of what is right, resposible, decorous." (Leo Rosten, "The Joys of Yiddish")

  • Stuart Adamson was a real mensch. Not translatable. Get out your "Joys of Yiddish" if not familiar. English fails me here.

  • We miss you stuart :(

  • magnificent song and performance.adamson's behaviour exemplary.

  • BC just ROCKS! I'm only sorry I never got to see them live. Stuart, RIP dude.

  • I was there. Fight erupted from roadies trying to keep fans swept up in the emotion from rushing stage. Great performance from a great band. Unforgetable. Stuart, you are missed.

  • This was the last tour before Stuart and Bruce totally revamped their guitar rigs and never sounded quite the same. Went for a more organic Mesa Boogie sound which still sounded nice, but not quite as unique sounding as their older stuff in my opinion. There will never be another Big Country! Stuart, you are missed!

  • I guess they didn't want to end up being a blokish guitar band doing covers of their early hits. The last stuff from Stuart--really his share of the Raphaels album and the last BC studio album--just incorporated everything so much into a total sound. It was Stuart at the top of his game in terms of playing music in order to write music. And the lyrics were way ahead of most of the stuff in the 90s too. Can't help but think if only Stuart had conquered America instead of it conquering him.

  • I am not that familure with BC's late stuff, but in my opinion BC would have gone in a little different direction musically (no lyrically) if they didn't develope such an strong need to not sound like U2. I never thought they sounded like U2, but media where always comparing them tho U2 in the early 80's, and because of this they changed their sound more then I think they naturally would have if it was not for these comparisons that they were sick to death of.

  • I think such comparisons are not exactly fair either (but didn't Echo & the Bunnymen face the same rap?) but just due to the huge commercial impact of U2, bands like BC must have been under pressure to be the next U2 (which is not U2's fault). In terms of who was the vet who influenced whom, it must have gone the other way. Stuart's work with the Skids was HUGE for younger bands like U2.

  • As a btw, people who really missed the early rawness of BC in the later stuff, more than found it in the early 90s Buffalo Skinners album. I think the follow-up Why the Long Face, still guitar-heavy, was lyrically better.

  • Totally agree with The Skids influencing U2, it is obvious in The Edge's guitar playing & sound in U2's early stuff. I think one big difference is that Bono appealed to more because of his romantic passion and outrageousness, while stewart's passion was a more blunt, honest passion and tend to let his guitar do some of his talking. U2 was made for fame, BC was more of a working mans band like "The Alarm"

  • Yeah, an Alarm comparison is a good one--but we can add them to that list of 'almost were, what if...' bands.' You know, bands that made a huge impression at the beginning, but just didn't become as huge as the music deserved. One thing incredible about Stuart live was he did most of the lead guitar work while also singing lead guitar--at a technical level way beyond the Edge. All around a difficult act to beat.

  • I meant sang 'lead vocals'. Sorry. Also, I might add, I think the Edge a very creative guitarist. Like George Harrison, whatever the song takes.

  • Completely agree with the "almost were" band! They certainly had great potential, more then the Alarm, and I loved The Alarm. They could have made it much bigger then they did if the winds had blown a little differently.

  • Also agree that Stewart was taking on both the jobs of Bono & The Edge, and doing it damn well, but I think in a way that was a problem because there was a kind of compromise. It is hard enough just equaling Bono, or The Edge, but to be as good as both at the same time is impossible.

  • Thought I might mention that Stewart was good friends with the guys in The Alarm and Simple Minds, as well as U2.

  • I always get my Mike Scotts and Mike Peters mixed up, but the guy from the Alarm did a very nice Alarm-like version of 'In a Big Country' at the Stuart Adamson tribute concert. He made the song his while paying homage, couldn't ask for more. I wasn't there, but saw a clip.

  • Ya, I saw some of that clip too, it was very cool to see! I am sure Stewart would have really appreciated that! Oh, it's Mike Peters in case your wondering. Stay Alive!

  • last of the translation: "this is a song that we sing. it's called "inwards" and this is the end section. 1-2-3-4 . . . "

Fucking incredible that they pick right up where they left off. These cats were amazing.

  • It was pretty amazing . The last bit was ".. this is something a bit tasty, its called Inwards and this is the end section"

  • Thanks so much,eiledon13!

  • my first true love as far as bands go. awesome, thanks.

  • "We'll have none of that here...for a group who is defintely not about violence; that was just a little bit stupid, ok...cause violence only ends in one thing..and that's one of you dead and that's not very funny at all..." after that you lost me. can anyone else clarify?

  • "... this is a piece called Inwards, and this is the end section." :)

  • Can someone type what he says? his accents thick and i really want to know what he said. thanks.

  • As to be expected, Stuart was always a class act and a gentleman.

  • live in america for the Steeltown tour, I used to have the video, gave it to a girl though, the things a teenager will do! so if your watchin this Tara, give me back the video!!!. Thanks for posting it. Brilliant as always.

  • Gee, the morons had to fight exactly on that song??? Why not outside, where they could drive each other to unconsciouness and free everyone else from their will of fighting. Long live Big Country songs!
