Mouth all dry, eyes bloodshot, Data stored on a microdot. Kicking the cloud with my moccasin shoes, TV dinner, TV news. Fear, Fear, she's the mother of Violence, Don't make any sense to watch the way she breed. Fear, she's the mother of Violence, Making me tense to watch the way she feed. The only way you know she's there Is the subtle flavor in the air. Getting hard to breathe, Getting hard to believe in anything at all But Fear.
"Mother Of Violence" Walking the street with her naked feet, So full of rhythm but I can't find the beat. Snapping her heels, clicking her toes, Everybody knows just where she goes. Fear, Fear, she's the mother of Violence, Making me tense to watch the way she breed. Fear, she's the mother of Violence, You know self-defense is all you need. It's getting hard to breathe, It's getting so hard to believe, To believe in anything at all.
...hahahah, it's that hands somehow represents physically the soul. If you like the hands of a person, probably you will like also the inner part of that person... So Peter Gabriel had wonderful hands... for me. You look when he plays flute also...
Nothing to be good or bad with the bipolar bear thing, but freebeings said he is not,and i just said he was...and i love him more than ice cream chocolate with toasted almonds and syrup..maybe i was wrong...i don't care.. PGabriel rules!
No need to be so angry. I'm a massive fan of Peter but even if he IS bipolar, it's not a bad thing. In fact some of the greatest writers and musicians in the world suffer from it. Beethoven and Stephen Fry but to name a few :)
lol..Nothing,it's just that it thought u knew a friend i used to like named Marrit, and that u was friends with her,and told u to defend me against freebeings...but it's ok...Freebeings always wants to win :)
Peter Gabriel, a paternal voice, a wonderful song writer, a heart of gold pro-human rights worker. He could be bipolar, he could be crazy, he could be whatever people wants to call him, but I know if more people would think like him, this world would be more peaceful.
i have to side with sparrow...i also love PG's strawberry, one of my fave Beatles songs btw, & i still own the vinyl of "all this and WWII" not to mention all the vinyl Peter has released including a Security sung completely in German...i know this doesn't mean anything 30 years later, i guess i'm just a fuddyduddy tho' given that Bach's own sons called him that i think i'm okay
Hmm, sorry I can't say I agree. I love his cover of Strawberry Fields! It's strained, beautiful, modest and branded with that individual 'Gabriel' quality that moves me beyond words. I love him ;)
I swear, Peter cannot make a bad song. He has a rare ability to lift your mood, like a hot chocolate on a cold day. Such a gifted musician in addition to being a blissfully handsome man...it leaves a permanent smile in your heart :)
this song is beautiful. Arrangement, melody, the guitar part against the piano...but what does it for me is the lyrical integrity...because fear is the mother of violence, along with desire...fear and desire together are the parents of violence. Its a very beautiful rendering which I have never heard before. Thankyou VERY much!!!
MoV is one of my very favorite PG songs of all times, it's amazing that someone had a live version of this. This is really lovely. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome video. I just posted what I think is the best live performance of "White Shadow"... recorded for King Biscuit radio at the Bottom Line in NYC. It's only audio but I added photos from 1978 to give you something to watch while you listen. It's in my videos, just click on my name.
P.G.'s two albums for Atlantic Records are really under-appreciated, and there are great songs on them, like this one, D.I.Y., and the classic "Solsbury Hill".
the guy on acoustic guitar is Sid McGinnis, who played guitar for Peter on the PG2 album and the following tour. He now plays in David Letterman's band. Tony Levin was there for this taping, but not for this song. They played Humdrum later and he was there for that. Timmy Cappella is on Piano and Larry Fast is on keys. Jerry Marotta, the drummer, doesn't seem to have been there.
Thank you so much for sharing this! It's much better quality than I'd seen before. Do you by any chance also have "Humdrum" from the same show? I just uploaded the MOV/Humdrum combo I had (see my channel), but the quality is nowhere near this version.
Grazie Peter per questo momento che solo oggi sono in grado di vedere...allora ero un ragazzetto ma oggi posso apprezzare emozionandomi un pò, thanx to Youtube here!
I'm curious what leads you to believe he's on drugs?? A "fan beyond fans" would know he had one very bad (and very funny) experience with a hash cake and never did drugs again... this looks like a typical, sober, run-of-the-mill (and wonderful) PG performance to me. He's plenty weird enough without any chemical help!
ohhh i so second that and i'm so glad there are people like you to answer correctly to ignorant idiots like sketchyfolk.. 'fan beyond fans' LOL.. as for Peter and MOV.. i adore the song. and Peter is so.. Peter! as someone said below :)) thanks!
I third this. =)The Spencer Bright telling of the drug story is a really funny one indeed. Peter is just one of those characters where "high on life" applies.
Wow, that end was so disturbing, haha. Love that song though. Thanks for posting this!
