  • its that hrdrive under yht computer are lose

  • did u ever fix this issue i heard that if u remove the back cover of the imac and remove the ram and were the ram slots are u have to heat it u with a blow dryer but u have to move it around dont let in blow in one place

  • Thats youre ram

  • Actually..After doing research the 3 beeps means your iMac has no good banks (I don't know if it RAM or something else) but yeah that is your problem. So people who were referring to RAM may have been correct all this time.

  • well, at least now you can use it for cleaning the moquette

  • That's the only bad thing about Macs. They break down too easily.

  • microsoft cursed your computer.

  • my power mac g4 does the same thing! is there a way to fix it?

  • LoL your iMac is trying to have a call but the person dosen't answer

  • I guess the mac was trying to clean the dust in it. VACUUM CLEANER FTW!

    Not funny? o well...

  • @xmarcusthepoet Boot it up while left-clicking. Don't let go. I'm dead serious. It's kind of weird that this is how to fix it.

  • Too much dust man....

  • do you know how to do a factory reset on the imac g5?

  • hI I know you may not be seeing this questrion cause the last log in of your youtube was march 13th 2006 but does that mean when you hear the sounds that means is dead please HELP , i just bought on of these for three hundered dollars..... I put even a disk in and it won't come out , it was a installation disk,

  • @xmarcusthepoet this problem is cause by bad capacitors, depending on you model it will cost about $30 to replace them and average knowledge of soldering and computer. I just fix my by replacing the capacitors.

  • hI I know you may not be seeing this questrion cause the last log in of your youtube was march 13th 2006 but does that mean when you hear the sounds that means is dead please HELP , i just bought on of these for three hundered dollars.....

  • What about the isight camera?

I work on apple so I asked son apple person and they said me that it was a problem on the procesor and that you can repair it beacause apple doesn't repair powemacintosh computers anymore beacause they broke the contrat.

  • that beep means the ram is bad!!

  • Comment removed

  • had same problem....replaced power supply.......works great now

  • I manage to eliminate the Vacuum cleaning crash once on a Imac. The CPU needs some new heat sink compound paste since the factory thermal paste sticker is burnt and can't keep the CPU cool anymore. It's a bitch the access the CPU since the whole main board has to be removed just to take off the heat sink. But If you never do this in time, the system beeps and the the CPU is toast!

  • How many L.E.D.'s lite on the motherboard?

  • I never had the beeping noise but I'm very familiar with the ominous vacuum sound.

  • Dude, g4 mutch :/ i geus idk

  • it is a burned CPU you need to get new CPU

  • did you get it fixed

  • Lol, "Spoon Too Big" *Vacuum cleaner*

I found a 17" 2 Ghz iMac G5 on the side of the road yesterday (2nd time after my G4 DP 500) with a note saying "bad motherboard." After getting it home, drying it off and cleaning it up, I began to inspect it. The inverter, main cooling fan, disc drive, RAM and hdd were removed, so I haven't been able to fully test. I did boot w/o ram and get 1 beep, then w/ ram and got 3, so I know it is trying to POST. Sorta on the fence about trying to fix or not. : /

  • That is one scary mac D:

  • I had a look at apples website and it came up with No RAM banks passed memory testing. Which may mean you have fualty RAM. If you have two sticks of RAM Take out on of them and try again. If not try the other one. If it still doesn't work buy new RAM Sticks.

  • haha unlucky mine still works great!

  • Yea my 1.42 GHz MDD G4 melted inside. MDD G4s had MAJOR thermal issues as Apple (In concern for acoustics) did not have adequate air flow inside the machine. The fans ran too slow, and the case design recirculated hot air. On my second MDD G4 I put a new fan in it and had it operating full speed so it would not melt the motherboard or power supply.

  • you know what to do to fix this problem get windows 7

  • Dude! You fucking dumbass! Take it to the apple store!

  • 140 F Exceeds Intel's recommended thermal threshold. I'm going by what their corporation recommends from their system development notes to ensure minimal down time.

  • This reminds me of the MDD G4 and all it's heat related issues. The poor processors ran so hot that they inevitably melted themselves and/ or the motherboard. Apple felt that running the fan at a slow speed to keep the noise down was more important than keeping the machine within a safe temperature operating range. I stuck a thermometer into my 1.25 GHz MDD and was shocked to find the processors running at 140 F! Intel's thermal threshold tops out at around 98 F. Heat is deadly to computers...

  • 98C you mean, 140F is nothing to g3, g4, and intel alike

  • My iBook G4 has never crashed since it was taken out of the box.

  • Unplug the power from the back of the Mac and then plug it back in and the fan should go back to normal speed upon restart

  • Ok 2 things could be happening 1 there is a tiny school in your computer and there was a fire drill. Or 2 the Finder cursed at you

  • Finder: "YOU HATE APPLE!? F*CK YOU YOU SH*T F*CK!"

  • Comment removed

  • @bugylukki LOL DUDE!

  • th, and that with the cooler? scared))))

  • my imac wont turn on any help

  • thats the thing with a mac, once it stops working its gone for good, unless you really know what you are doing

  • Not really. Most "issues" with computers are software related. And, as long as your Mac is still under warranty (AppleCare is always recommended), you should be able to get even most hardware problems resolved.

  • this is what the beeps mean:

    • 1 beep = No RAM installed/detected

    • 2 beeps = Incompatible RAM type installed

    • 3 beeps = No RAM banks passed memory testing

    • 4 beeps = No good boot images in the boot ROM

    • 5 beeps = Bad ROM boot block or processor is not usable

  • my friend also has this problem ... in looking at some forums i saw people saying that it was a ramm issue ... did u manage to find out what the fault was ?

  • sounds like something in the EFI

  • or Open Firmware in this case...

  • This iMac does not have EFI

  • the beeps mean 3,2,1 BLAST OFF! then the fan goes full blast and the mac will takeoff and fly.

  • wow, really. i had this same problem, with my imac, and i almost posted a video about it, trying to figure out what the heck is going on. turns out it was just bad RAM that i had in it

  • Put New RAM In The Computer, Trust Me I've Put Bad Ram In A Powermac G4 And It Did The Same Thing.

  • lolz i had the same problem with my eMac except i didnt get the loud fan hmm seems like ur ram is finished... thats what happened to me

  • BOP...BOP...BEEEEEEEEEEP! Twunnnnnnnn... Sometimes hapens this when i try to use MAC OS X on a VM.

  • whats a VM?

  • Is a program, who emulates another computer inside you computer. Sure, you computer must have power of two weak computers (At least 2Ghz and 1 GB of ram) to emulate. This second computer will use a guest OS, who will use an HDD image to store data. It will not harm you computer, why the errors and vírus will be stored on the virtual HDD, who you can destruct easily. They're much used to test new OS and programs.

  • Vmware Fusion...thats what i thought...so i can run OSX and still use windows apps without windows being installed?

  • Be sure of it :-)

  • am i right about my statement, i know its vm

  • Parallels?

  • parallels is terrible, get bootcamp or vmware

  • use virtualbox its free

  • can itr run ANY APP?

  • In theory, yes

  • in theory, but can it really run CRYSIS?

  • Who needs that? Computers are for the internet, music, video's, codeing, writing........and stuff like that, if you need games get a Playstation or Wii.

  • consoles have horrible graphics and horrible specs...just dont talk unless you know the consoles actual specs which suck... in fact the wii essentially has a G3 asa CPU

  • Not ALL... VMs have reduced power, to prevent slow down to the Host OS. So, if you want to run a game on a VM, you will need MUCH RAM, 2 video cards conected together, set the VM o use certain Mb of Video RAM, and activate hardware aceleration.

  • so bootcamp is my best option...

  • @gfyhdhbyhgj Macs dont support SLI/CrossFire D:

  • In theory, yes

  • the beeping must mean "Duck and cover"

  • lol

  • OWNED!!!!

  • LMAO I love how you said that!!! If you don't mind, could I use that as my channel description?

    "Welcome to chngngsldr54's channel"

    -BOOP BOOP BOOP. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeee

That's priceless, man!!! (or woman, idk)

    -Don

  • With all fairness to the doubters. This is EXACTLY what happened to my g5 iSight. It beeps, light flashes, fan turns on constantly! Then nothing.

Took to apple, gunna cost shed loads to put right. I Love MAC,

And bought another 3 since, but their repair prices are bollucks!

  • My Everything Mac-booklet that came with my iMac (its an aluminium one, though) says that when you add more RAM and if the computer starts up and beeps 3 times, it means that none of the RAM works, and it can't boot simply because there is no RAM to boot into.

  • Just to wake you up BEARSin07. I still own my Imac G5 along with my intel duo. They do beep. It's rare but it happens. Also. You can't make Mac's look bad. Even if it runs like sh*t. you can run over it with a steam roller and it'll still out-do a PC. But just b/c it's the illest sh*t on the planet, doesn't mean it's infallible. Anything created is fallible

  • "Uhhh. Computer Lab teacher, My computer sounds like a vacuum cleaner."

  • "Ms. Bly, Turn off that vacuum! your sucking up my hard drive!"

  • take of the top cover clean out the cpu fan - done

  • I had the same problem. If you only have one stick of ram switch it to the other ram port. Turns out one of my ram ports are fried.

  • fake. 3 beeps means it's starting the vaccum. and the imac fan at full blast is just clearing out the dust.

  • @KiddyShaq34- No it is not, I have the exact model with the exact problem. After further Apple support help, it means there are no good memory banks. Don't talk unless you know what you are talking about.

  • This is very similar to how my friends iMac G5 started having problems. As it turned out, the capacitors were bad on the motherboard. Read the complete capacitor story and what the fix is for the problem. Do a search on Google Search for: Repairing Apple iMac G5 Motherboards.

  • The RAM is not on board. You can re-seat the ram. I own one.

  • Then yours is a different model from the "iMac G5 iSight" shown here.

  • Hiya. It appears we have the exact same model iMac G5. Was this the late 2005 model? Came with 512mb ram standard? 2.1ghz processor? 20" screen? I've monkeyed around with the RAM in mine a few times. I'm now running 2.5gb of ram in mine. ONE time I heard the vaccum noise. Unplugged it and restarted - no problems after that. Read up on it - appears there was some sort of power spike inside the Mac.

  • @wewa No iMac has ever had soldered in ram. Ever.

  • Comment removed

  • @sonyboy97 Macbook Air isn't an iMac though. It's a Macbook Air for a start.

  • @richardmaudsley77 sorry didnt read the whole thing

  • @richardmaudsley77 THERE IS 0 DIFFERENCE OTHER THEN AN SSD AND NO FANS

  • @htfkid2000 Derp. Ignoring how wrong you are for a second, turn your fucking caps lock key off.

  • @richardmaudsley77 no caps lock, i used the shift key >=D

there is little difference between a mac and a pc other then EFI and rebrand and dont say i am wrong (by 2009)

  • @htfkid2000 I never said otherwise? Though now you mention it, the far differing form factor is actually a massive difference (no known PC motherboard standard), and given EFI/BIOS is the linchpin of the entire computer architecture I'd say that was REALLY inportant.

  • @richardmaudsley77 - Yes there is, at least according to apple's website!

  • @dragonforceBil11011 is what?

  • @dosdata it happens on pc too

  • *BOOP BOOP BOOP*

    "Maid service!"

*runs vacuum cleaner over hard drive*

  • lmfao

  • Try to replace the RAM! :-)

  • That sounds like it is trying to go directly to the terminal. it makes that sound every time i went into there for school. (set up admin accounts) search up how to do that, there will be a key command to do a normal starup. i just don't remember it.

if it hasn't been fix'd by now.

  • Apple care SUCKS.

I've had to pay more than 3000$ on repairs that Applecare does NOT cover on my 17" Macbook Pro 3rd Gen.

200$ is a fucking waste for that Service plan i swear.

  • by reading ur description , it sounds to me like u have some serious imac issues!

  • that is the automatic dust removal function! on the mainboard is a sensor which determines how much dust there is and activates the fan to remove it :D

  • @markii63- It has to do with ram- no good memory banks

  • mine did that and i just cleaned the dust from the back behind the stand and its worked perfectly ever since

  • i hate it when my i mac did that i bought my frist one from CDW and it was broke from shiping and my one i have now is to slow cuz its only has 512MB of ram so im going to buy a 2GB stick(and mine only has one slot) :D

  • wat is the purpose of RAM and wat happens if you reset it?

  • RAM (or Random Access Memory) is computer memory that allows the running of simultaneous programs and a smooth experience. The more RAM you have, the more programs you can have opened (and you can do more stuff).

As for resetting it, I would assume that is like refreshing it...clearing it out.

  • ok thanks!

  • The beeps indicate ram problem. Replace ram and it's fixed.

  • @dokzero5- I just bought a new stick from Best Buy, no luck...

  • scary :( :)

  • what if it was a powermac g5.... then i betcha it would blow your house off it's foundation.

  • Bad RAM ;)

This is the G5. Hah, this RAM isn't onboard/integrated. Dunno what the Mac "Genius" was smoking.

  • *cough* The Apple tech tried to explain how to reseat the RAM modules, but the video poster thinks it's onboard.

  • @atomatwelve- there is a 512mb onboard, and a slot that supports up to 2.5 gb

  • Why are people arguing about 3 year old technology?

I don't see P.C. users complaining about issues their Pentium IV computers. So what if there were a few Macs with issues? How many Piece of C. PC makers put together junk boxes in the last decade? Get over it and buy something newer for pete sake!

  • It's not necessarily complaining. From what I've noticed Macs tend to last longer and remain useful longer than a lot of PCs. Sometimes owner are not willing to give up using the Mac they love simply over a simple issue. So finding what is causing the glitch is the best solution. Mine is over 3 years old and I love it. Whenever any of my Windows-based PCs had issues - they were bad! So I just replaced them.

  • what mac do you have?

  • I have 2:

    Late 2005 20" iSight G5 running at 2.1ghz - 2.5gb ram

    and

    2008 20" 2.66ghz core2 duo "Penryn" with 2gb ram

  • oh, cool... you know the later imacs can be upgraded to 4 gb ram

  • Yup.... just haven't done it yet. I am planning on getting the ram from OWC, where I got the last ram from. They are pretty good and have great prices. As of now the newer iMac is running great on just 2gigs. But I do want to up it to 4.

  • i meant the G5, not the intel, i think there are 4 gb chips available for yours

  • OH lol. I've searched for that but to my knowledge the G5 iMac only supports up to 2.5gigs - which is what I have anyhow. If its true - where did you hear this? OWC last I checked only has ram to support the 2.5 max.

  • The one i am talking about is the one that used DDR2 (not the original)

  • Thats the one I have. It has one slot for a up to a 2gb stick of DDR2 ram. There is half a gig already mounted that is unremovable.

  • oh, i think then you have to remove the 512 and sauter in a 2...thats really risky

  • *beep, beep, beep* *turns on fan* "Prepare for assimilation."

  • try holding option upon start up?????? idk...

  • WHY DO THE FANS SPIN SO FAST

  • Also, the RAM is NOT onboard - I think an Apple support representative would know more about Macs than you would, no offense of course. (Ignore this is my post just like it actually came through lol)

  • You don't know Jack, Jack. There's 512MB onboard the last iMac (iSight) Dip Switch. As far as Beeps go, Apple Phone agents are front line support and NOT electronics technicians.

If think you can find a PC from a company that lets you call their electronics technicians direcly, buy one! (before they go bankrupt from the cost of the calls from idiots with software issues)

  • It appears I have the exact same model shown here. Mine did that once. But I unplugged it, fan stopped, restarted - it was then perfectly fine. The RAM in this one - there is one expansion slot and one 512mb integrated board that cannot be changed out. When the "about this mac" is selected it shows that RAM as being built-in.

  • I'm thinking of buying used Imac G5, but I googled that there has been quite a lot problems with those machines (random freezing etc.) and when I see these kind of videos I get little suspicious. I can assemble PC's easily and components are widely available, in case something fails I can replace it by myself, but I think it's not same situation with these machines, if the mobo or processor dies it's kind of hard to find spare parts.... and if you do they will cost a lot...hmmm

  • my PowerPC iMac G5 still works fine, I guess its just luck, but then again all of my apple products have worked fine so then i think its just that I treat them well ;)

  • Wow. That sucks. I'd be scared crapless if that happened to me...

  • usually on any motherboard (not sure about macs as they use a logic board), 3 beeps meen that the ram is incorrectly inserted. Try accessing the ram and then making sure it is securley fastened

  • The Logic board is just what Apple folk call the motherboard, but they are unique to each model of Mac.

3 Beeps mean RAM is bad/unseated, yeah. Macs use the same RAM as PC's most of the time (Some like the Mac Mini use some sort of small form factor RAM and Mac Pro's use ECC RAM).

  • You must be usig a troblesome app.

  • Last week my imac just blacked, sparked, and smelled like burnt toast. Took it to the Apple Store and they said it was just the power source and that my hard drive should be fine... and it was, but the power was so fried that they gave me a brand new version with a bigger screen and flat keyboard for free since I'm covered by Apple care! but how do you kill 3 in two weeks?!

  • i havent got the 3 beeps of death YET. but i really dont like my imac right now.....it shuts down applications out of nowhere with its annoying ass message that pops out like '' ITUNES APPLICATION HAS QUIT UNEXPECTADLY'' and plus i can't even shut my computer down properly anymore , it freezez and says that i need to hold the power button for 10 seconds for it to turn off. FUCK APPLE!

  • Is it running Leopard? If it is, I understand your pain. It is stable for most, but for some, it is horrible. Tiger is done, and is as stable as Xp is. Leopard is as stable as Vista, except as little, more stable. And on intel, this happens a lot with PowerPC rosetta apps.

  • @cityboy043094 Kernel Panic XD

  • that happend to mine i dint know i what it was doin

  • ut scared the shit out of my cat and my moms cat

  • It's the RAM..I had the same problem...Install the system CD hold down the "D" key and run the diagnostics test. It sucks for you because that machine is not easy to open. It's screwed, taped sealed then screwed again and then there is a clasp at the top next to the camera that must be snapped off before removing the back. Apple really made it difficult...Oh, wait! I think the ram slot is at the bottom in this model...Well as long as it's not the HD you'll be fine.

  • Actually on the G5, the whole back of the macine comes of with three screws.

The Intel one is the one that's impossible to open.

  • 3 beeps = ram failure... don't blame apple for that. memory can go bad on any machine, dell, sony, hp, gateway included.

  • Well they choose which company supplies them the memories, don't they?

  • so they can't see into the future! How do they know when it will go bad?

  • It's a first prototype of Apples first flying Mac. Are you Ready to take off?

Anyway. This noise is scary for such an expensive "lifestyle" machine.

  • you probably need to have it in a more ventilated area instead up against a wall and probably no cool air in the room. Every device you buy has to have good ventilation , thats why they tell you not to put your dvd player between your cable box and ur vhs fir example.

  • nothing compaired to a powermac g5, mine got so high it blew papers around my room! i checked and the damn thing has 9 fans! omfg.

  • this happened to me a few times a while back, just unplug the power cord from the back of the mac, wait a few minutes pop it back in and power up..worked for me!...Mac rules!

  • the worlds most exspenensif tech vacume

  • ???

  • the fan going like that is called the fan of death. On laptops it will go on full speed until you pull the battery out.

  • There is no PowerPC G5 laptop.

  • Almost as bad as when I was on ebay and someone advertised the iMac G3 having a 16Mhz Core2Duo. You know thats not right.

  • g3s were mostly 333mhz, wow this guy REALY doesnt know his shit.

  • G3 233Mhz-700Mhz

  • i said mostly.

  • WHAT THE HELL

  • wow the worlds most exspenif vacumcleaner wow

  • sounds like a hard drive failure..... :(

  • Boot it up while holding "Command + Option + P + R" until you hear the start chime for the 3rd time, then let go. This will reset the PRAM, and that might solve the problem. I've never seen this before in all the 8 years I've owned several Macs.

  • I can beat that. In all 16 years I've used Macs, I've never seen that.

  • you've got bad luck that's all, and Macs DO last longer, you just got some defective ones

  • ?????????????

  • What have you been doing with them? That's really weird.

  • lmfao

  • It seems to me that your comp is saying that you need to install new Firmware (if so hold the power button 4 10 seconds from when it was off) If that is not it then your ram is not functioning!

  • he said he tried putting the install cd in and it didnt work possibly a short-circuit somewhere

  • ooookkkkkk......

  • Just put it on the floor, it'll suck up all those dustbunnies ;)
