@kff Bruce Lee would have killed Gene Lebell in a real fight. You are the one that are a fawn - by a perpetuated myth, spawed by Lebell himself, only after Bruce had passed away. And this myth has no basis in reality whatsoever. Its an urban legend by lebell that has no proof backing it up. Lebell is a bum compared to Bruce Lee!
Just as he is depicted in this episode!
Bruce Lee is the one that gave lebell all those Green Hornet jobs.
Lebell would be nothing w/o the exposure Bruce gave him,
@V67850 Rubbish. I'm not a Lebell fanboy. If you think that this episode has anything like real fighting in it I feel sorry for you. And influence in Hollywood lends no credence as to who is the more capable fighter. Don't you think though that perhaps Gene would make concessions out of courtesy if Lee was getting him work?
@kff Thanks, but dont feel sorry for me--as a bouncer, I know the realities of
real fighting.Plus having studied the martial arts for many years, and having seen my share of street fights as well...I think I can properly judge talent---or the lack thereof. And Gene Lebell falls into that lack thereof catagory, when compared to Bruce Lee.
Most of Martial art America agrees with that assessment as well.
Only those that have Bruce Lee envy, seem to disagree.
Love seeing Bruce Lee in ANYTHING..but to make the scene realistic,Lee should have been dressed appropriately in a Gi....probably part of his Kung Fu vs. Karate- China Vs. Japan thing..or just the usual tv carelessness about details...
@Panamajoel Bruce Lee did Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Wing Chun, Boxing, Karate. Better say this... he didn't DO it, he just learnt only important moves from any martial arts, which only will be useful for HIM! He made an aspect on Wing Chun, therefore he "shaped" his own style Jeet Kune Do, based on Wing Chun and other few moves he took from other martial arts.
P.S. That woman, who speculates, is very sexy/cute for 1967, who knows... maybe I'd tap her. ))
This episode aired on October 26, 1967 seven months after the green hornet ended and R.I.P Bruce Lee he had acheived so much during his short time on earth and the reason why i think God called him home too soon is because he was becoming more famous for his fighting and God did not like that so he decided to call him home early.
@formlessMIKE Didn't Bruce Lee create Jeet Kun Do by combining the styles and philosophies of various disciplines, like Kung Fu, Fencing, and Western Boxing, among others?
Why are some mma fans always knockin Bruce lee down? He was great during his time, nd to talk like he's shit compared to mma fighters today is just so stupid. You kids today should learn to be more respectful and polite to the one man who brought the world mma. That's right, a Chinese invented mma and brought his knowledge of it to America. Every american mma fan should be thankful for that.
@ClearwaterMMA Interesting that you have MMA in your name and yet call the pioneer of martial arts and mma a fraud. You realize Bruce lee incorporated take downs, arm locks with his stand up. The first REAL MMA. Without Bruce Lee people wouldnt have been inspired and we might not even have an MMA world as we know it today. In the end Your the fucking Joke
@kawaiisaki I'm talking about the way he fuoght in movies. there are still people who believe that horsecrap. groundfighting is the best form of fighting. karate, kungfu, akido is all garbage. i'm glad Bruce Lee and his son died at a young age. LOL i hate Gooks. LOLOLOL
@ClearwaterMMA wow what the fuck is wrong with you? Glad Bruce Lee and his son died? Obviously he wasn't going to beat up the other cast members in the movie, this is scripted... Can't you see that it's amazing the way he controls his movements so he doesn't hit them? You are one fucked up person.
@ClearwaterMMA I bet it wouldn't be that hard for me to get you to suck my cock.....If fighting was all about getting owned and handled, your faggot ass would be an expert...Bitch.
@ClearwaterMMA Karate , Kung fu Aikido is not garbage my friend , they are diferent types of martial arts , they are arts and can also be used in self defense , the funny thing is almost nobody use Aikido in MMA fights i think its just because most MMA fighters do not practice it maybe they dont believe in it , but its as good as Jiu jitsu , and you can see Karate and Kung fu being used by many fighters in UFC , K1 etc , those arts were created for health care and self defense not for violence
@ClearwaterMMA Self defence includes street fighting , what i mean is that it is not created to make these gladiators MMA events , these tournaments were created to make money , you have to understand that in MMA you canot use Karate or Kung fu at 100 % because there are rules against a lot of things like fingers in the eye etc , there is also a lot of crap being teached in a lot of Dojos around the world because they want to make the money but not teach the real thing and many other reasons
@Codi190 come on man anyone can stick their finger in someones eye. you people are really fuckin dumb if you believe in all that kung poo, karate, pintak silat, you guys must believe in superman and batman also
@ClearwaterMMA i understand your point of view but i think its good when you learn stuff like Karate you may find something useful just like any art , im not saying you will become John Rambo if you become black belt , im just saying you can learn good things , like kicking and stuff , i never said they are going to make people champions , only you know how far you can go , anyway what do you believe is the best style kickboxing maybe ?
@ClearwaterMMA i see but dont forget that sometimes its hard to take someone down , so you will need some punching and kicking to distract the adversary , an MMA fighter must know how to fight standing and on the ground as well
@Codi190 Unless the standup guy uses a sprawl ( wrestling move) he can't stop the takedown. take 2 fighters. 1 guy can only use standup and the ground guy can't throw any punches. all he can do is take him down and submit him with a choke or any submission. the standup guy can't do anything but punch or kick and the groundfighter will win 99 times out of 100
@ClearwaterMMA from what i know the people who were hunting Bruce and his son were Chinese criminals unhappy because he was breaking a rule that was forbiding them from teaching their Kung fu to other races , blacks , whites , japanese etc , he broke that rule and showed what real Kung fu was about , nobody protected him and the bad guys were after him for a long time , im not sure but i think thats it
Ground fighting is limited also, even the gracies have to incorporate striking skills to even compete these days, its come full circle, and I hate chalkies and blacks, and what ever you maybe.
@ClearwaterMMA Bruce was not a fraud. He was 40-50 years ahead of his time. It is true -- most fights, uncontrolled, will go to the ground, or to the floor. That is where the MMA stuff can do well. I always wonder why most of the MMA fighter I've seen just trade punches and kicks until the fight goes to ground? No blocks, no evasion...just hammer on each other 'til one goes down. Then the fight gets interesting.
It's like watching a piece of timeless art (Darli) when Bruce was on the Matt it was like his feet where elevated, total control in self expression he is beyond greatness I could watch him all day u honour us mere mortals with your presence. R.I.P.
@whatsgoingon07 I would walk up and down the same busy street showing people the space where I once had six teeth and the handkerchief I used to wipe up the blood. While I smiled and said "Bruce did this."
Wow! Bruce was kickin' butt even on "Ironside". Nothing against David Carridine, but had Bruce Lee played Caine in "Kung Fu", it would have rocked our world.
@petshopish Actually...MMA/Cage fights came from Vale Tudo in Brazil and brought to the USA by the Gracies. Helio Gracie was already doing challenge matches long before Bruce came onto the scene.
knows judo it proves it here. He learned from one of these guys. YOu r ignorant just because bruce lee wears a different uniform you think its a different style of fighting. He just did judo idiot when he grab the guy and threw him off the stage. JKD is mix martial arts fool !! not chinese crap you are crap JKD is grandfather of MMA
to those who didnt believe that bruce lee had a background in judo as well, the man with the orange hair who Bruce took down is an actual friend of bruce, Gene LeBell, aka "the godfather of grappling", and Bruce learned most from him.
@joetheazl Not really. Although Uncle Gene did show him a lot of techniques, Bruce learned more from Wally Jay (Smaller Circle JuJitsu Founder) and Hayward Nishioka (Pan American Judo Champion).
@unclebraddah well you may be right, cuz we're fond of Bruce Lee's philosophy "be water" which refers to being adaptable, so he learned from EVERYBODY of any particular style he was interested
@NationChosenByGod Not originally. Karate came to Japan by way of Okinawa, whose people often traded w/ Chinese and learned "Kara" (China) "Te" (Hand). Japanese not wanting to associate it w/ Chinese changed the Kanji character for "China" to "Empty".
Did Bruce just say that his father left him the bed he slept and the clothes he wore. That's disgusting does that mean that he also left him his underware?GROSS!!!!
@gironda2 No. Gene never choked Bruce out. He he did a fireman carry on him and wouldn't put him down. From there they became friends and they taught he each other their skills. Gene was the 2nd person that Bruce learned grappling from. The other is a local near me named Jay Wally. Gene taught Bruce Judo and Jay taught him Ju Jitsu.
JKD is a philosophy on combat not a martial art. Bruce took what he thought worked from various systems of fighting, the key is these are the things that worked "For Him". Mostly direct attacks, anything that was fluent and to the point, nothing fancy or too elaborate. To embrace JKD you must first follow your own path in martial arts. Don't get caught out by people trying to teach JKD to beginners, this is bullshit.
@Dave54600 The Tao of Jeet Kune Do is Bruce Lee's philosophy, 'Having no way as way.
Jeet Kune Do is a system of martial arts involving boxing, kickboxing, Wing Chun Kung Fu, and Kali (as taught by Dan Inosantos). Lee stressed the need to embrace many different systems, the 'whatever works' approach. However, his form and technique is most definetly Kung Fu, or 'Wushu,' if you prefer. He studied under Yip Man, and Joon Rhee in China, and brought the art back to America when he was 18.
@Capjedi Bruce in his later years martial art was not primarily Kung Fu. There were plenty of elements from it. But the kicks wasn't your traditional Kung fu nor were all of the punching.
@epics7 actually his kicks were traditional kung fu kicks, his favourite kicks were the round house, hook kick, spinning hook kick, side kick, and leg take down techniques, many of them are from kung fu as well.
@IpponDropkick it was performed expertly to the point that the opponent wasn't injured in the filming of the show, that was the point I was trying to make as the martial arts Bruce performed for t.v and movies were made to look spectacular but maybe not technically perfect which is what @rippabomb misunderstands, however, in his tutoring it was different altogether and each move was practiced repetitively until perfection.
Rippabomb, you may've read about martial arts but have you trained in them? I have and had the honour and priviledge to train with Shaolin, the throw in this episode is judo and very hard to just practice until it looks legit, the move is performed expertly, you obviously have not read all his books or you would know that principles of Judo & Jujitsu are incorporated in JKD, if it wasn't for Sigung Lee the western world would not have martial arts at all.
@wartsdlogydna Whoa now, I like the clip and I like Lee as much as anyone but the tomo nage he does in this is not "performed expertly". His foot positioning is completely wrong and he doesn't have his foot up until he's WELL under the other man.
rippabomb, if u know about Bruce then u would know that he was great friends with Dan Inosanto - an expert in, kali, eskrima and kenpo and passed on his skills to Bruce and Bruce returned the favour. In the uncut version of game of death the moves are seen. Read the john little library.
Too bad Bruce left us too soon! I'm sure he would be showing his skills in present days like Chuck Norris does. I haven´t known about this movie even another one beyound of those known.
Sigung Lee Jun Fan trained in every style of martial taking the parts he thought best and then intertwining them to create JKD, read the John Little library of books so that you know the facts from the fiction
@rippabomb: Stfu, you don't know nothing about Bruce Lee.... dumbass. If you don't like this vid or Bruce Lee then stay the f*** off the internet. Ruined he whole purpose of this vid. >:-(
@majfalco77 you cam at me side ways first of all i know what judo and jujitsu looks like second of all bruce lee is Chinese you fell to remember that japan and china really don't like eachother and another thing he didn't do an ounce of judo or jujitsu in this whole video
@rippabomb: So he didn't throw anybody? Plus if you check out movies, and other stuff he does jiu-jitsu and judo with wing chun and jeet kune do and other various stuff. What does China and Japan not liking each have to do with what I'm talking about? (P.S. I was mad that day. So my bad. :P)
@majfalco77 naw it coo but naw I did look at his books and it doesn't say he took jiujitsu but maybe he did watch jiu jitsu and tried it until it looked legit thats what i think though
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You people live in fantasy, yes Mr. Lee was good, but lets get real Judo Gene could have kicked his butt as well as many internal martial arts masters from the 60;s, in case you don't know Wong Jack Man beat him in S.F. CA. and sent him packing to LA. Linda Lee still does not tell the truth about that fight to this day, show me some footage of Mr. Lee in a real fight not one choreographed, if BJJ was known to the people then he probably would not have beaten one of the original Gracie's.
youre very wrong. wong jack man didnt beat bruce but bruce took longer to take him down as it was claimed that wong jack man kept running around instead of fighting. this was before bruce created jkd. Also bruce has experimented with jujitsu and was a student of judo as well.
Love da bit where the guy goes to throw bruce over his hip and bruce lands on his feet, man it must have been impossible to take this guy to the floor!
Ironic that he's shown here performing karate, as it's one art he never practised, though he studied it and was familiar with the moves, etc. Karatekas like Lewis and Norris were astonished at his knowledge of their art and of course derived immense benefit from his JKD teaching. Bruce Lee! Just his name makes me sit straighter and breathe more deeply. Whatever I'm doing, esp. working out, I feel I must increase the intensity level. A great Inspiration. I just love him to bits.
Bruce Lee was awsome. Even though I can't say he was the best in the world because there are buddist monks and other awsome martial artist out there. But anybody that knows martial arts should know that he was a force to be respected.
love the 'CHI' coment--wahaha--proper body mechanics and 'CHI' are the same, and anyone who thinks otherwise has been conned by their "master'--lol--"Master"---lololol. The guy wouldn't last 90 seconds with a REAL fighter--sorry kid---you have been fooled. Makoa Combatives Group--(the real deal)
He was way ahead of his time. The people who bad mouth him are just jealous they didn't have the foresight and natural talent Bruce had. If he were alive today I imagine he would be a great promoter of Ground work and weapons based MA--as this is the real-reality.

if you want to know more about it, go on google and type in the origin of karate. Kara means empty and te means hand in japanese.
NationChosenByGod 1 year ago
@NationChosenByGod Not originally. Karate came to Japan by way of Okinawa, whose people often traded w/ Chinese and learned "Kara" (China) "Te" (Hand). Japanese not wanting to associate it w/ Chinese changed the Kanji character for "China" to "Empty".
unclebraddah 1 year ago
@wonphi Most of karate techniques and styles derived from chinese kung fu.

You think Gene Lebell could choke out Bruce Lee? I heard he actually did just that.
gironda2 1 year ago
@gironda2 No. Gene never choked Bruce out. He he did a fireman carry on him and wouldn't put him down. From there they became friends and they taught he each other their skills. Gene was the 2nd person that Bruce learned grappling from. The other is a local near me named Jay Wally. Gene taught Bruce Judo and Jay taught him Ju Jitsu.

That guy with the red hair is 'judo' Gene Labell.

That's true ! JkD is best taught to someone with a martial arts background.
rmattyp 1 year ago
JKD is a philosophy on combat not a martial art. Bruce took what he thought worked from various systems of fighting, the key is these are the things that worked "For Him". Mostly direct attacks, anything that was fluent and to the point, nothing fancy or too elaborate. To embrace JKD you must first follow your own path in martial arts. Don't get caught out by people trying to teach JKD to beginners, this is bullshit.
Dave54600 1 year ago
Capjedi 1 year ago
@Capjedi Bruce in his later years martial art was not primarily Kung Fu. There were plenty of elements from it. But the kicks wasn't your traditional Kung fu nor were all of the punching.
epics7 1 year ago
@epics7 actually his kicks were traditional kung fu kicks, his favourite kicks were the round house, hook kick, spinning hook kick, side kick, and leg take down techniques, many of them are from kung fu as well.
wonphi 1 year ago
@IpponDropkick it was performed expertly to the point that the opponent wasn't injured in the filming of the show, that was the point I was trying to make as the martial arts Bruce performed for t.v and movies were made to look spectacular but maybe not technically perfect which is what @rippabomb misunderstands, however, in his tutoring it was different altogether and each move was practiced repetitively until perfection.
wartsdlogydna 1 year ago
Rippabomb, you may've read about martial arts but have you trained in them? I have and had the honour and priviledge to train with Shaolin, the throw in this episode is judo and very hard to just practice until it looks legit, the move is performed expertly, you obviously have not read all his books or you would know that principles of Judo & Jujitsu are incorporated in JKD, if it wasn't for Sigung Lee the western world would not have martial arts at all.
wartsdlogydna 1 year ago
@wartsdlogydna Whoa now, I like the clip and I like Lee as much as anyone but the tomo nage he does in this is not "performed expertly". His foot positioning is completely wrong and he doesn't have his foot up until he's WELL under the other man.
IpponDropkick 1 year ago
@IpponDropkick dude, it's just a quick choreograph.
epics7 1 year ago
rippabomb, if u know about Bruce then u would know that he was great friends with Dan Inosanto - an expert in, kali, eskrima and kenpo and passed on his skills to Bruce and Bruce returned the favour. In the uncut version of game of death the moves are seen. Read the john little library.
wartsdlogydna 1 year ago
Bruce also learned grappling /judo from Judo champ Gene Lebell, red head seen in this video.
SecretAsianMan1000 1 year ago
Too bad Bruce left us too soon! I'm sure he would be showing his skills in present days like Chuck Norris does. I haven´t known about this movie even another one beyound of those known.

majfalco77 1 year ago
@majfalco77 you cam at me side ways first of all i know what judo and jujitsu looks like second of all bruce lee is Chinese you fell to remember that japan and china really don't like eachother and another thing he didn't do an ounce of judo or jujitsu in this whole video
rippabomb 1 year ago
@rippabomb: So he didn't throw anybody? Plus if you check out movies, and other stuff he does jiu-jitsu and judo with wing chun and jeet kune do and other various stuff. What does China and Japan not liking each have to do with what I'm talking about? (P.S. I was mad that day. So my bad. :P)
majfalco77 1 year ago
@majfalco77 naw it coo but naw I did look at his books and it doesn't say he took jiujitsu but maybe he did watch jiu jitsu and tried it until it looked legit thats what i think though

Lee in a real fight not one choreographed, if BJJ was known to the people then he probably would not have beaten one of the original Gracie's.
goodforthemoney 2 years ago
i'm sorry, but your very wrong on this.
just look at wikipedia to the fight history of Bruce Lee. he kicked verious martial artist black belt by the way of knock out.
some of them within 10 seconds:P
I understand your piont though, but his real fight weren't recorded because he wasn't actor at that time. He was a student in America:P

youre very wrong. wong jack man didnt beat bruce but bruce took longer to take him down as it was claimed that wong jack man kept running around instead of fighting. this was before bruce created jkd. Also bruce has experimented with jujitsu and was a student of judo as well.

For those that don't know...the judo man w/ red hair getting thrown around is Judo Gene LeBell.
