Latin America is part of The Americas, if American Idol was exclusively for North Americans it should have been called North American Idol, therefore, this was fare-game for her. Language should have nothing to do with this!

People from Canada and Europe call us "Americans" just as much as we do, so get over it. Words can sound the same and have different meanings in different languages. "American" in English is not the same as "americano" in Spanish, and "embarassed" in English is not the same as "embarazada" in Spanish.
