Having never played this game, myself, I can get the sense from watching a bnuch of these videos (especially after watching Maximillian a lot), that Wesker is just plain cheap. He does a lot of damage, is really fast, has INSANE priority with his moves, and has a two-in-one teleport move. Wow. What an arsenal. Also, it doesn't seem like players change up their team very often. Sad.

@TheTouristArrives Wesker got nuked in UMVC3. He's not as effective as he used to be. He did have wayy too much health and the priority on some of his moves is bullshit. But if you trained and practiced, then you could work around him

@TheTouristArrives Why should they change their team? If they feel its effective go for it. People play those characters because its fun. If people find it cheap sad for them considering they havent found a counter for them. And Wesker isnt as cheap as you think. A lot of life sure but extreme defense or keep away he has difficulty in. And he needs assists to do work. Im a wesker player and he can be blown up from just that.

@TheTouristArrives With all the newer characters now these days, and how some of them have brought newer things to the table, some of that is needed. A lot of characters in the game do high damage - it's not just him and many of those characters also are fast. He cannot play too much at a distance at all, and will be beaten by characters who can. The game has been more balanced in UMVC3 and some newer characters can get around Mr. Wesker definitely.

@vigil8686 No he is actually pretty solid, good pokes, a nice tri-jump, nice assists, an awesome hyper that is very easy to combo into and DHC's into almost anything. He is pretty versatile to, since he can play either keep away or rushdown. He just isn't very popular so we don't see too many high level iron men.
