Hello genesis971. Sorry for the late reply. I was on camp for a couple of days.
I am not familiar with DX but at the time I bought it, on the european market, it cost over 2100 dollars. At the time the marketprice in the US market was 1500 US dollars.
I do not have experience with the gateway computer, all I no is there is a better tablet than the X60 in the Lenovo brand. It is called the X201 (t). The X60 is not produced any more.
When I look at the Windows Experience Index for the X60 the results are:
Calculations per speed: 4.7
Memory (RAM): 4.7
Grahphics (Aero): 3.5
Gaming Graphics: 3.1
Primary Harddisk: 4.3
I do not game on this laptop (aside from some simple tablet pc games) so I can't inform you well on that. The windows Experience Index suggests that it nog as yet optimal for gaming. Perhaps the X61 has a better processor for gaming.
gonna be getting a laptop soon for uni ..how much better is this than the hp tablet..and also does anyone know what the biggest screen size you can get is ?
It's better in that it has less vectoring issues because of the dedicated capacitative screen and pen. But it also has a combined resistive and capacitative screen. 12.1 inches is about the largest currently. For practical purposes I wouldn't go larger than 13 inches. Larger is nog practical. You could better switch to a Surface.
this seems to be the best tablet on the market right now. (beats the HP tablets big time). how responsive is the pen? i write very fast, will it keep up with my handwriting?
also, a serious concern for me is the lack of an optical drive. While i do not see myself buying the expensive dock for the system, a usb optical drive is not out of the question, but not be available at time of purchase due to financial reasons. Does the notebook come pre-installed with necessary programs (office 2007
The pen is an active digitizer, so no vectoring issues and very reponsive. The active digitzer overrules the passive.
I have a Plextor external USB CD/DVD drive. works fine.
My version came preinstalled with vista business and a trial version of office 2007.
Recognition is fast, but you still have to write relatively neatly for it to recognize well enough. The TIP learns you handwriting actively. The more you write the better it recognizes your handwriting.
very cool. Prolly be making purchase in a couple weeks. Thanks for the demo, i am always iffy about buying new technology like this w/o seeing it used first.
it is a wonderful device. My academic life has become paperless. that is what I love about lenove x60. However, it is recommended to have extr-copy of your work becuase you might lose all your work suddenly like what happen to me my prevous summester. I lost entire my work suddenly lol. by and large, it is nice laptop and recommended too.
It sure is. I know what you mean about losing important data. I have an external harddrive where I keep my backups. I also make copies of software on it. If my computer is ever lost, damaged, or crahes I can always install software and upload documents, pictures and photos on another computer.
I have no/little graphic experience. I have noticed it to be very useful in notetaking for study purposes. I definitely beats paper notes that wear and tear in time or pages getting lost. It's very handy with ink blogging. I also fill in prestests and sign documents using digital ink. Using Internet with touch is quicker and more interactive than using a keyboard and mouse. But you are right that you should use it for a purpose.
I really doubt it's faster to browse internet with tablet. And what comes to lecture notes, you are really slow typer if drawing in the tablet is faster than actually typing it out. Mathematical notations _might_ be an expection, but i'd rather use pen anyway than clumsy tablet.
Perhaps typing is faster, but on many occasions I have found browsing with a pen interaction and a panning hand quicker than using a mouse scroller.
Mathematics could be fair with a pen. I would still use typing for writing a document in word. Using the pen interaction in a photo editor and pdf editor has a much better interface in my opinion. Thank you for your comments.
