@simonwedege Forcing someone to get on their knees and pray to you every day without even giving a shred of evidence or sending them to burn forever just because they don't suck your dick sounds real free to me.
@TheObliviousPreacher Me too. It's almost like it's a crime to be religious for some of our fellow liberals. They look at the negative aspects of religion like the wars, but there are are positives aspects of it too such as strengthening your soul & gaining morals.
@DontRepYourCity I hate that argument that says without religion there wouldn't be any wars. For one thing people love conflict too much to respect peace. I agree though people only want to see the darker side of things they don't agree on.
@TheObliviousPreacher Liberals argue that if christian values violate human rights then we shouldn't follow them. Such as not letting gay couples marry. Not letting a rape victim have an abortion. Preventing stem cell research even though it could end the suffering of Alzheimer patients and victims of countless other diseases. I personally don't believe that Christianity is "right" and since it's in the way of getting things done that could better human society it should disappear
@L0VE2TROLL Who said that all Christians were the same? I agree on gay marriage and stem cell, the only thing I don't agree on is abortion unless the pregnancy is fatal to the mother.
Although... I really don't see a point in aguring my beliefs with a person who's user name is "L0VE2TROLL".
@TheObliviousPreacher Yes but it's the conservatives that argue against stem cell research, gay marriage and abortion because it's amoral. And it's amoral to them because of their christian values. Which is why liberals give so much flak on Christianity. Mainstream Republican attitude is "We can't offend God" Mainstream liberal is "equality and happiness for all regardless of what the bible says"
@L0VE2TROLL What you fail to understand is that there's more than one christian denomination and the reason for that is for those so called "christian values". It's not fair to stereotype all Christians based on Sothern home growin hillbilly bob Baptist values. Liberal Christianity look it up.
Btw the Bible says nothing, it's people who interpret the Bible doing the talking i.e. priest, reverend, and minister.
@TheObliviousPreacher All christian denominations are against abortion. All are against embryonic cell stem research, nearly half are against stem cell research by other means. The bible persecutes gays, atheists, and pretty much any non-believer, forming a bias and predjudice amongst SOME christians against the fore-mentioned. Don't think for a damn second that the bible says "nothing". It's a book filled with passive aggressive hate against anyone who isn't christian.
@L0VE2TROLL The Bible doesn't do anything it's the people who interpret e.i. if a person were to shoot another person it wouldn't be the guns fault.
"passive aggressive hate against anyone who isn't christian" Funny... I didn't hear any mention of Christians in the bible and the only people Jesus ever shown aggression towards were the romans and that was because of the desecration of the temple.
Why don't you try reading it before you act like you know something you don't.
@TheObliviousPreacher You ever read the book of Leviticus? It's in the King James Bible, it has a bunch of punishments that god has decreed, such as stoning blasphemers. Yah, and anyone who isn't a believer is sent to hell, even if they were a good person, that makes sense. 7 damn years of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, and I was confirmed when I was 13. Even as a child I knew what utter crock religion is.
@L0VE2TROLL That's old testament before Christ, Christians, and the Ultimate Sacrifice. If you have a problem with that take it up with judaism.
Now I know why you're on such a crusade, you had to do something you didn't want to when you were a kid and you hold a grudge toward those people(Christians). If that's the case you should know it was only for you not your parents not the priest, bishop, Pope YOU!
I've read the Bible many times, from cover to cover, and I also went to church every week as a kid. There is, indeed, rules in there that state what is and isn't allowed, and the punishments of each.
I personally don't believe that it is just Christians that are biased against people that don't believe as they do. Everyone involved with any group is biased against others that don't share their beliefs.
I think a better question is why is Satan so unpopular? He never killed, ordered death upon, or even tortured anyone on Biblical record. He doesn't even live in Hell like most people think; the Bible says he roams Earth freely. God's body count is in the millions. In fact, he killed everyone on Earth except Noah and his family with the flood. Satan's only 'crime' is turning people away from God. Who's the bad guy here?
Science isn't 100% proven, religion is 0% proven, that's the difference. There is proof, physical evidence, of how earth and species and everything came about. Is it 100%? No, it probably never will be. But is it 25-50%? More? Probably, where as religion doesn't have a single shred of evidence to back it up. Not one. Heck, psychology(Science) can explain why a great deal of people are religious. As far as politics, the church shouldn't have any influence at all, unfortunately it does
@619flyguy Saying that though, the bible is kind of evidence,, yes its backround is uncertain, but for now, it can be just as real as darwins theory of evolution or the big bang, and there are certain landmarks, paintings and recordings which may prove religion is right. So although I agree that Science isn't 100%, and I do believe science is the way forward, not religion, Religion still has evidence for existence. The religous passion must have come from somewhere?
@619flyguy You can't 'prove' science; science is a method. You can prove the claims reached through scientific means. But apart from that I agree with you.
@619flyguy Funny how people use the unprovable elements of faith to discredit the quite valid morals it teaches. Its easy to point out everything religion has done wrong isn't it? You're right there is no way to prove that a God exists, due to the unprovable nature of the concept of God. That doesn't make the values it teaches any less valid. You see, what you're really saying is the morals religion teaches have no place in politics because they are associated with an unprovable God.
@619flyguy Ever heard of the pyramids? How about easter island? OOH, i know, the amount of energy coming out of the Kaaba counter-clockwise, the same way muslims circle it? I could go on forever, your geniusness.
I dont see why some people dont think god is real. I mean it is alright not to be religious, but it is hard not to believe in god because we learned about him through the same way as our country.Through writings.. Also, for those of you who think science contridicts god, you are wrong. Here is an explanation. Lets say god is real (for those who are agnotics or atheists) then he knows all truths. If science is true, then god would know it. God would know physics, chemistry, and etc.
@Happymealify Your argument doesnt explaint if there is a god. Its says that if there is one, he would know that stuff. Dont get mad, just want you to go back a few ideas back and try again till you get tired and accept that the only thing that this world and "god" have in common is your belief in him and ur will to try to make a connection between both concepts, but its ok, you can try, its a nice mental exercise, no sarcasm involve.
@Dariovich God is as real as science. There isnt any real "proof" to science. It is possible that any science is wrong and it is possible that god doesnt exist. It isnt like anyone was there when the Earth was created so no one will know. Anything is possible.
@civwarfan One problem with yuor theory. What proves magic isnt real? There could be unknown magic out there for all we know. I dislike close minded people like you who think just because an idea isnt accepted means it isnt true.
@Dariovich Im not even trying to say that people should believe in god. Just that it's hard not to believe in him. I think you misunderstood my statement.
@Happymealify So if I showed you a book that was thousands of years old saying Humans were created by an alien species who were fiddling around with radioactive goo, would you believe it? No right. Also the constitution was written 300 years ago with reliable accounts and witnesses.
One main reason why Jesus is so popular is because Christianity was forced on people with murder and violence, then the process of indoctrination began for future generations. Let's get the truth out in the open. Let's not hide it anymore, let's talk about the truth.
i'm so happy i live in Europe... three cheers for the de fato separation of church and state. From what i understand of American history people originally left Europe for America hoping that they could create a country where this was the case (indeed this was the express desire of the founding fathers), so what went wrong?
@DemonicRayquaza haha i think thats as good a reason as any, not having sex with family members probably helped us out over here as well (apart from in Somerset..)
@maxwheeler92 You're American, aren't you? I will be the first to tell you pof the stupidity of my country, but I hate snobby Europeans that somehow think their country is 'smarter' just cause it has 1,000 year old pillars. Tell me, how's that Muslim immigration working out for ya? Hear minarets were banned in Switzerland. SWITZERLAND, NEUTRAL COUNTRY, TOOK A POSITION. LOL.
@WHATISUTUBE No i'm English but my grandfather was American. I wasn't accusing American's of being stupid, just far more religious than most European's. My question was how religion became so tangled up in american politics when the declaration of independence asks for the separation of church and state. I don't quite see how immigration level's relate to that, but personally i'm fine with immigration. Surely most Americans would be, given most of your ancestors came from Europe?
@maxwheeler92 my ancestors? My PARENTS were born in Central American, so, no, they aren't *my* ancestors. Anyway, I misconstrued your comment, so I apologize. As for the seperation of church and state, I agree. But keep in mind that the first Americans were VERY religious, and things like 'freedom of religion' and 'church and state' were only there to prevent a similar situation happening (like Britains). But America's always remained a religious, Christian nation.
@LMarcC I wasn't talking about the founding fathers; I was speaking of the people BEFORE them. You do know people in Boston went to church for 8 hours, right? I'm not a religious zealot, but the first 'Americans' WERE vehemently religious.
C'mon, I don't like Fox News or George Bush very much, but this is retarded. Religion does not equate to republican. So he prays in front of the news, whatever. People always attack religion, but the only thing they're doing is creating conflict. Their wouldn't BE religious the conflict in the first place if people weren't constantly trying to disprove religions.
@guilemaster147 you are an idiot,he is praying in front of the cameras to try and show how christian he is.and yes it does equate to republican because they are always on fox saying how much more christian and and american they are than you.
Look at you, resorting to name calling to try to get your point across. Just like O'Reilly. It doesn't matter how much he prays on camera. It really doesn't in the long run. And Fox news is not the end all, be all voice of the Republican party. It's just a right wing biased station. Don't be blind.
political correctness (specially Bush's) to the nth degree. I hate it when politics tries to combine religious stuff to it. Let alone, $. Just a person who works in a political FL city.
politics and religion can't be mixed and the idiot who does that should be locked inside a room and learn some fucking history before has have the right to vote once more.
That bed time story has been told over and over and all it does is make people crazy...or it gives crazy people a talking point. Go ahead...invoke your religious beliefs on the right for all the oil you can get....WTF!!!!
As for reading the Bible & praying daily, by the Bible's own verdict; that makes you a Christian. Granted, you haven't committed blasphemy; the only eternal sin as I'm sure you're already aware; you can still make it into heaven.
Your comment, which perhaps I misinterpreted sounded pretty clearly to have the conveyed the illogical connotation of 'Any Christian who does bad stuff, isn't a Christian' which you have still yet to refute? What did you actually mean?
What an amazingly patronizing message, fellow scholar.
''"Hes a devout Christian, apparently he prays daily." What the fuck? Since when did that make you a Chrsitian? Guess that trumps the torture and slayings of innocent lives.''
The connotation behind that message, to any impartial observer was clearly that which I demonstrated. If you didn't wish people to misinterpret you, you shouldn't have made it look like what I stated, was so patently what you were trying to convey.
Incidentally, the Bible actually gives out specific criterion for the torture of individuals, for genocide, for xenophobia..
If you're going to asininely argue 'Anyone who does bad things, is not a Christian' then you evidently haven't read the bible, either that or you obscenely selectively took your reading of it, ignoring the parts you don't like. Don't worry though, most Christians do this.
@BelfastAtheist If your talking about the old testament (Torture, genocide), I agree but I would have to say that it's obsolete since Jesus walked the Earth (From a Christian perspective.)...It's confusing how you use these things against Christianity when "genocide" & "torture" has been around before it was established. We all have the choice to murder & kill, but like I said it comes down to choice.
Well..my original point I was making is that the Bible gives specific merits for genocide, murder, barbarism, racism, slavery and so forth, which you don't seem to disagree with. So I suppose I agree with you?
@BelfastAtheist I don't 100% but I understand were you are coming from. The old testament is barbaric but for the most part but God changed that with his son. Just compare old testament with new & you will see more compassion. This is just my opinion though & I could be wrong...
For anyone whose interested, watch 'The God Who Wasn't There'.
It shows a minute-by-minute critique of the movie and how there are only a handful of minutes without blood, for the duration of the entire movie.
What utter trash, it gets especially hard to respect once Mel Gibson the anti-semite is involved, who seems to have conveniently forgot that Jesus was a Jew..
@utubegay1 Well, remember, to people like you, everything that they don't know, don't exist. According to people like you: Space travel, reaching the moon, human flight on a non baloon vehicle, jet propulsion, nuclear energy, atom bomb, dropping bombs from planes, the earth being round, humans having aural energy, the earth not being the center of the universe, and so forth, all were considered, fairy tales... you mock what you don't belive just because you're not smart enough to prove it...
@CrippledKnight well, a flying spaghetti monster cannot be proven that it doesnt exist. I can write a book where i say the monster created everything and we should worship it. Does that make it true? I am not an atheist, but i refuse to believe things that cannot be rationally thought of. I do not have a problem with believing that a higher being exists, i do have a problem with believing that a higher being sent his song to die for our sins. These stories are made up to control society by fear
@utubegay1 I think you are in fact an atheist. Atheists do not make the claim that "no god exists". Atheists simply do not believe in any specific god because there is no evidence to support its existence. There could be something higher than us, whether its something in another dimension of the universe or what not; but there is no reason to believe this as there is no evidence for it.
The claim "god doesn't exist" is an anti-theistic one, not atheistic.
@utubegay1 Hah fairytales? If that's true, the bloke who invented it must be an absolute legend for having such a following so many centuries afterwards
@LanceMurtagh You see, its not hard to persuade people to follow something no matter how stupid the belief can be. Example, scientology. Now you may say, i am comparing billions inoof christians to mere millions of scientologists but the point is that humans are very confused. We find it comforting to believe that something higher than us exists. We like believing that this life is only a short passage so the hardships seem easier and we have hope.
@LanceMurtagh think about it though, so many 'prophets' appeared, with their beliefs and it was created into a religion. Many of these religious books say that in order to achieve 'heaven' they must only follow that particular religion and all other humans of other beliefs are wrong. Now ask yourself this, if there was a god who created all beings, why would he favor one over the other? Isnt god impartial? People will believe what comforts them and what makes them be happier. Simple truth.
Isn't this the 21st fucking century? Get your heads out of your asses all this religious crap is BULLSHIT. There's this funny thing called modern science, you idiots should look into that.
@M3t4lManiac science doesn't prove anything just like religion doesn't so shut the hell up and believe what you want. None of us can prove our beliefs no matter what the fuck science says.
@LucasimoTheGreat These things are being researched as you type, believe me, at some point we will have it figured out, and there'll be no more room for your "God of the gaps" you should stop letting your imaginative friends rule your life. Get your head out of your ass and start supporting the people who actually work to answer these questions instead of just coming up with an explanation off of the top of their heads "OOUUUH I KNOW, A WIZARD MUST HAVE DONE IT HURR DURR".
@M3t4lManiac never said that. I said what's more important trying to disprove a religion by looking for the origins of life -OR- helping preserve it (get it)
@LucasimoTheGreat No, what you're saying makes no sense at all. If you're suggesting that looking for our origin is meaningless, I will have to ask you if you're human.
That's...a completely asinine question. If you wish to preserve religion, merely because of tradition then fair enough. However that's a completely fatuous position to hold, though to be fair; you have not even stated why you wish to preserve religion (Presumably, only your own) you merely stated that you did. In which case, you leave yourself open to crituque on all fronts.
I hate the way republicans parade religion around to promote their own selfish agendas. As a christian, I hate the way they give christianity a bad name.
I don't mind different religions in office so long as they don't get mixed with politics. If I wanted Jesus/Jehovah/Allah/Budda as president, I would vote for him, not an actual politician!
@ZomBiezley I'm a christian and i agree with you 100%. People should be able to choose whatever they like, not have it rammed down when they're children, and yes, that can sometimes include other christians.
I can’t imagine what it must be like to be raised in the belief that your birth into this world has landed you in the middle of an unseen cosmic battle between good and evil, and that if you don’t “choose” goodness, you will be burned in a firey pit for all etrnity.
TheObliviousPreacher 7 months ago
@TheObliviousPreacher Yes but it's the conservatives that argue against stem cell research, gay marriage and abortion because it's amoral. And it's amoral to them because of their christian values. Which is why liberals give so much flak on Christianity. Mainstream Republican attitude is "We can't offend God" Mainstream liberal is "equality and happiness for all regardless of what the bible says"
L0VE2TROLL 7 months ago
@L0VE2TROLL What you fail to understand is that there's more than one christian denomination and the reason for that is for those so called "christian values". It's not fair to stereotype all Christians based on Sothern home growin hillbilly bob Baptist values. Liberal Christianity look it up.
Btw the Bible says nothing, it's people who interpret the Bible doing the talking i.e. priest, reverend, and minister.
TheObliviousPreacher 7 months ago
@TheObliviousPreacher Oh yeah and... Preacher.
TheObliviousPreacher 7 months ago
@TheObliviousPreacher All christian denominations are against abortion. All are against embryonic cell stem research, nearly half are against stem cell research by other means. The bible persecutes gays, atheists, and pretty much any non-believer, forming a bias and predjudice amongst SOME christians against the fore-mentioned. Don't think for a damn second that the bible says "nothing". It's a book filled with passive aggressive hate against anyone who isn't christian.
L0VE2TROLL 7 months ago
@L0VE2TROLL The Bible doesn't do anything it's the people who interpret e.i. if a person were to shoot another person it wouldn't be the guns fault.
"passive aggressive hate against anyone who isn't christian" Funny... I didn't hear any mention of Christians in the bible and the only people Jesus ever shown aggression towards were the romans and that was because of the desecration of the temple.
Why don't you try reading it before you act like you know something you don't.
TheObliviousPreacher 7 months ago
@TheObliviousPreacher You ever read the book of Leviticus? It's in the King James Bible, it has a bunch of punishments that god has decreed, such as stoning blasphemers. Yah, and anyone who isn't a believer is sent to hell, even if they were a good person, that makes sense. 7 damn years of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, and I was confirmed when I was 13. Even as a child I knew what utter crock religion is.
L0VE2TROLL 7 months ago
@L0VE2TROLL That's old testament before Christ, Christians, and the Ultimate Sacrifice. If you have a problem with that take it up with judaism.
Now I know why you're on such a crusade, you had to do something you didn't want to when you were a kid and you hold a grudge toward those people(Christians). If that's the case you should know it was only for you not your parents not the priest, bishop, Pope YOU!
TheObliviousPreacher 7 months ago
@TheObliviousPreacher I'm with @LOVE2TROLL on this one.

SolidSnakeRules 8 months ago
@SolidSnakeRules Actually Satan killed 10, the 7 sons and 3 daughters of Job, but this was ordered by God so... God is still a dick in this situation
rememberthename33 8 months ago
@rememberthename33 It's not really clear on who killed them. In the Bible it says the slaves and children of Job were killed by the 'fires of God'

@SolidSnakeRules Good point, either way the maximum kills by satan would possibly be 10, whereas god has killed upwards of 2 million

As far as politics, the church shouldn't have any influence at all, unfortunately it does
619flyguy 9 months ago 42
@619flyguy Even if science was only 1% proven, it would still be infinitely more proven than religions claims
rememberthename33 8 months ago
@619flyguy Saying that though, the bible is kind of evidence,, yes its backround is uncertain, but for now, it can be just as real as darwins theory of evolution or the big bang, and there are certain landmarks, paintings and recordings which may prove religion is right. So although I agree that Science isn't 100%, and I do believe science is the way forward, not religion, Religion still has evidence for existence. The religous passion must have come from somewhere?
SimbasSamba1 6 months ago
@619flyguy You can't 'prove' science; science is a method. You can prove the claims reached through scientific means. But apart from that I agree with you.

civwarfan 2 months ago
@619flyguy Funny how people use the unprovable elements of faith to discredit the quite valid morals it teaches. Its easy to point out everything religion has done wrong isn't it? You're right there is no way to prove that a God exists, due to the unprovable nature of the concept of God. That doesn't make the values it teaches any less valid. You see, what you're really saying is the morals religion teaches have no place in politics because they are associated with an unprovable God.

Happymealify 10 months ago
@Happymealify Your argument doesnt explaint if there is a god. Its says that if there is one, he would know that stuff. Dont get mad, just want you to go back a few ideas back and try again till you get tired and accept that the only thing that this world and "god" have in common is your belief in him and ur will to try to make a connection between both concepts, but its ok, you can try, its a nice mental exercise, no sarcasm involve.
Dariovich 9 months ago
@Dariovich God is as real as science. There isnt any real "proof" to science. It is possible that any science is wrong and it is possible that god doesnt exist. It isnt like anyone was there when the Earth was created so no one will know. Anything is possible.

i'm so happy i live in Europe... three cheers for the de fato separation of church and state. From what i understand of American history people originally left Europe for America hoping that they could create a country where this was the case (indeed this was the express desire of the founding fathers), so what went wrong?

WHATISUTUBE 10 months ago
@WHATISUTUBE No i'm English but my grandfather was American. I wasn't accusing American's of being stupid, just far more religious than most European's. My question was how religion became so tangled up in american politics when the declaration of independence asks for the separation of church and state. I don't quite see how immigration level's relate to that, but personally i'm fine with immigration. Surely most Americans would be, given most of your ancestors came from Europe?
maxwheeler92 10 months ago
@maxwheeler92 my ancestors? My PARENTS were born in Central American, so, no, they aren't *my* ancestors. Anyway, I misconstrued your comment, so I apologize. As for the seperation of church and state, I agree. But keep in mind that the first Americans were VERY religious, and things like 'freedom of religion' and 'church and state' were only there to prevent a similar situation happening (like Britains). But America's always remained a religious, Christian nation.
WHATISUTUBE 10 months ago
@WHATISUTUBE Here are a few comments from the VERY religious Founding Fathers;
"Question with boldness even the existence of a god." - Thomas Jefferson
“I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in life, I absented myself from Christian assemblies.” - Benjamin Franklin
“The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity.” - John Adams
“Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise.” - James Madison

BelfastAtheist 1 year ago

@mrkaiser1988
BelfastAtheist 1 year ago
@mrkaiser1988
Haha, what a fatuous comment.
BelfastAtheist 1 year ago
@BelfastAtheist If your talking about the old testament (Torture, genocide), I agree but I would have to say that it's obsolete since Jesus walked the Earth (From a Christian perspective.)...It's confusing how you use these things against Christianity when "genocide" & "torture" has been around before it was established. We all have the choice to murder & kill, but like I said it comes down to choice.
Ur2ez4me81 1 year ago

@BelfastAtheist I don't 100% but I understand were you are coming from. The old testament is barbaric but for the most part but God changed that with his son. Just compare old testament with new & you will see more compassion. This is just my opinion though & I could be wrong...

CrippledKnight 9 months ago
@CrippledKnight well, a flying spaghetti monster cannot be proven that it doesnt exist. I can write a book where i say the monster created everything and we should worship it. Does that make it true? I am not an atheist, but i refuse to believe things that cannot be rationally thought of. I do not have a problem with believing that a higher being exists, i do have a problem with believing that a higher being sent his song to die for our sins. These stories are made up to control society by fear
utubegay1 9 months ago
@utubegay1 I think you are in fact an atheist. Atheists do not make the claim that "no god exists". Atheists simply do not believe in any specific god because there is no evidence to support its existence. There could be something higher than us, whether its something in another dimension of the universe or what not; but there is no reason to believe this as there is no evidence for it.
The claim "god doesn't exist" is an anti-theistic one, not atheistic.

@utubegay1 Hah fairytales? If that's true, the bloke who invented it must be an absolute legend for having such a following so many centuries afterwards
LanceMurtagh 9 months ago
@LanceMurtagh You see, its not hard to persuade people to follow something no matter how stupid the belief can be. Example, scientology. Now you may say, i am comparing billions inoof christians to mere millions of scientologists but the point is that humans are very confused. We find it comforting to believe that something higher than us exists. We like believing that this life is only a short passage so the hardships seem easier and we have hope.
utubegay1 9 months ago
@LanceMurtagh think about it though, so many 'prophets' appeared, with their beliefs and it was created into a religion. Many of these religious books say that in order to achieve 'heaven' they must only follow that particular religion and all other humans of other beliefs are wrong. Now ask yourself this, if there was a god who created all beings, why would he favor one over the other? Isnt god impartial? People will believe what comforts them and what makes them be happier. Simple truth.
