we have always used a fireplace with a deep box to heat our house i burn about a cord or so a month and i get the living room up to about 80 in the evening and use a box fan to blow the hot air down the hall way and in to the bed rooms i get up about 6:00 am and throw a few logs back on it and it will start up again i cut the fire wood from my land from tree that fall daring storms this is how my family has always lived in southeast Missouri there was no electric in the house till 1952
Probably his basement. Our old neighbor had his in the basement kept the door open house was nice and toasty. We had ours in great room upstairs would stay warm but bedroom downstairs was always cold.
