  • @ARMIEgeddon I think that was a mistake. The part where she opens the folder is repeated.

  • I hope the makers of Blade Runner saw this. Or maybe they are still too busy catching replicants by zooming in grainy photos into a mirror to rotate and zoom for the reflection of someone behind a wall.

  • @mciumeica In the future anything is possible.

  • I hope the makers of CSI saw this. Or maybe they are still too busy catching criminals by zooming in security camera images into the victim's eye to rotate and zoom for the reflection of someone she saw.

  • Funny she mentioned “24.” Early in the FIRST season, they had a sequence very similar to this, showing the limits of real-world bitmap enhancement. One agent said something like, “What, you can’t enhance it to full sharpness?” to which the techie replied, “That only works on TV” or some such.

    I practically CHEERED at that.

Unfortunately, later in the VERY SAME SEASON, they reveal the Real Mole by enhancing a tiny area of a very blurry surveillance video frame to razor sharpness.

  • EPIC WIN

  • I have to admit, good work guys.

  • Still inaccurate! someone in this position would already be fully aware that it doesn't work that way.

  • @MakeEveryMomentCount A writer? Not sure I agree.

  • @MakeEveryMomentCount Maybe they were trying to be funny?

  • Did anyone else notice her open the folder twice?

  • buck?

  • And yet another reference to the actors' previous jobs, in this case Stana Katic's role in 24. I love how they do that, but people mostly just notice the firefly/serenity references even though there are many more if you watch closely :DD

  • captain malcom should stick to smuggling cargo in his fancy shmancy spaceship >:(

  • I like how she opens the folder at 0:18 & at 0:21

  • @asiangangstadj looking at it again, it's exactly the same clip - she's speaking without moving her lips the first time

  • wow...I'm speechless....

  • LOLOLOLOLOL

  • I may have to start watching Castle again.

  • As a computer vision and image processing guy, thank you Castle writers.

  • I've never seen this show. Why have I never seen this show?

  • @evercharmer, Ditto.

  • Comment removed

  • Too bad 24 never really used photo enhancement like seen on CSI from what I've seen. :P

  • Lol "it's not like on 24 Castle" love that line!

  • This is because they did not write a gui in Visual Basic.

  • Don't worry, just bring CSI to enhance this youtube video... The perp'll be caught in no time at all.

  • i've been thinking about watching this show because i had assumed it was one of those really badly done crime dramas but i'd heard it was actually well written. I decided that whether i would give this show a chance or not would depend on if this clip was good or not. I'm going to watch this show now.

  • @brokeneckgiraffe

The first couple seasons are fairly standard police procedural, but it does get very interesting in season 3. Saying that, it is very entertaining even when it's standard police procedural because it tends to feature more quirky and bizarre stories, and there is some good comic relief.

  • lol

  • Wow, accuracy? CSI could learn a thing or two.

  • Shop'd. I can tell from the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

  • lol, fail.

  • lol

  • That is the greatest thing I've seen in a crime scene show.

  • real life accuracy on TV? BLASPHEMY!

  • I love this clip, but someone who's savvy enough to immediately say "the enhancement only increased the pixelation!" would've known better and not even request the procedure.

Still -- it's nice to see it being done realistically for once. But someone who really expected to get results from zooming in on a picture would just go "KOWALSKI YOU FUCKED THIS UP WHERE'S THE REFLECTION"

  • 4 CSIs in training watched this.

  • I read somewhere like Gamma Squad that there is some mathematical magic that is able to do some actual enhancement now, early days and all that. Wish I could find the link again.

But remember, today's sci-fi is tomorrows new technology.

  • @omegakisc

No matter how advanced the technology, you can't produce details which aren't there in the original picture.

  • Who is that beautiful babe ?

  • @fanirama

    A typical american woman?

  • @cbob0080 You must be joking. I live in New Jersey and work in New York City and that is not how the typical american woman looks. They definitely look better in NYC but c'mon - typical american ? No way.

  • @fanirama

Well, they're not nearly as emaciated, but I rarely see a woman around here that isn't as striking as her.

  • @cbob0080 Stop looking at porn all day long

  • that girl looks amazing in this clip

  • They deserve a goddamn emmy for following the goddamn laws of goddamn reality in a goddamn TV drama. Goddamn it.

  • FINALLY! GOD!

  • In the real world zoom and enhance can only get us so far. I love the breaking of the fourth wall in this scene.

  • @xxshyaznboixx I don't think you know what "fourth wall" means.

  • @xxshyaznboixx That's not breaking the fourth wall, that's just not completely making shit up about computers while referencing another show.

  • actually wanna watch this show after seeing this clip. that and nathan fillion is in it.

  • I didn't read the replies before watching, so imagine my surprise when something vaguely realistic happened.

  • It's just mush!

    Mal Reynolds sad.

    :(

  • Great, now making fun of the cliche of enhancing a picture is gonna become a cliche.

On the X-Files, they had to send something to a whole other department in the FBI building and Mulder had to bribe the technician with tickets to a dodgers game.

Or just send it to the Lonegunman, those motherfuckers could do ANYTHING.

  • BECAUSE I BACK TRACED IT

  • I just got an accuracy boner

  • just wait till Bauer hears about this

  • I'm okay with this.

  • I'm buying every Castle DVD just because of this.

  • lol, finally they got it right

  • Enhance.. EnHANCE.. ENHA ahhh wtf its just mush..

  • Okay, this just made me love Castle, and I don't even watch the damn show.

  • haha

  • Well its obvious the killer is a white blurry blob of mush!

    Run for your lives!

  • About time!

  • @JisforJenkem wtf geocities still exists? are you from 1994? is time travel REAL??

  • @veenessar / @TeHaLeX3001 stop it

  • @TeHaLeX3001 Seriously? how many times do you have to be told to stop doing this, to stop doing this?

  • @TeHaLeX3001 Do not advertise us to these youtube morons!

  • Shoulda used VB to make a script that would backtrace the pixels...

  • Hilarious. I think super troopers made a joke about this as well.

  • You can see this is a low budget show, they don't have the latest technology in image enhancement.

  • @LeMAD22 Well done good sir.

  • Hi Youtube

  • Accuracy in my TV Drama? why yes! Score for Castle!

  • @WittyUsername13 you are not witty

  • he doesn't get out mush

  • Mush potatos

  • I do not watch tv, but this is instantly better than 99 percent of the tripe i have seen. good jorb

  • hmmm looks a bit mushy.

  • So Mush for that.

  • THERE'S JUST MUSH.
