Again, it is common to diagnose AIDS in Africa with symptoms. If someone dies from malaria or TB, it's easy for them to blame it on "AIDS", because that can enable more foreign aid. Testing also varies from country to country. You can be + in Africa and negative in Australia since their standards differ.

It's in HAART, in a reduced dosage; the reduction of the dosage and the addition of other drugs in the cocktail is primarily to prevent or retard HIV's ability to modify its reverse transcriptase and, thus, gain drug immunity. The tests don't look for actual virus. They were designed to react to proteins supposedly linked to HIV, like those that fast-track gay junkies had in their blood in the early 80s. People have tested both negative and positive, depending on different circumstances, like testing locations and survey questions

@Robdoggh Have they? You had no answers to the facts that AIDS is classified differently in Africa, that the CDC has major blunders on its hands, that AZT is poison, and that more HIV positives are dying from the drugs than they are from "AIDS".
Even if HIV does, in fact, cause AIDS, so much of what we thought we knew has turned out to be wrong. The WHO even quietly admitted back in June 2008 that there never was a heterosexual epidemic, and that there would not be one either.

Bullshit. The diseases used to classify AIDS are different because the diseases in Africa are different. By the way, that diarrhea you mentioned earlier? It's a symptom of lethal diarrheal diseases in Africa. People with AIDS die from it. Moreover, African AIDS clinics typically use a serostatus test to confirm HIV and a T4 cell test to confirm AIDS if they have the money and equipment to do so.

@Robdoggh Well that is the problem when you don't define a disease specifically. How do we know who is dying from malaria and parasitic infections and who is dying from HIV infections? Again, it is common to diagnose AIDS in Africa with symptoms. If someone dies from malaria or TB, it's easy for them to blame it on "AIDS", because that can enable more foreign aid. Testing also varies from country to country. You can be + in Africa and negative in Australia since their standards differ.

It's in HAART, in a reduced dosage; the reduction of the dosage and the addition of other drugs in the cocktail is primarily to prevent or retard HIV's ability to modify its reverse transcriptase and, thus, gain drug immunity. And the WHO issue you were talking about? It says that there's still a heterosexual epidemic in Africa.
You didn't read the article I tried to steer you towards, did you? There's a pile of research there that you can't refute.

AZT monotherapy wiped out 300,000 people in ten years. The only benefit to the new drugs is less AZT. I am aware the WHO said there was still an African hetero epidemic, but that doesn't make sense. A virus wouldn't behave completely differently by geography. Viruses do not discriminate.

Infection patterns differ if behavioral patterns differ. Unsafe heterosexual sex far more common in Africa than it is in the United States, and beliefs about the sexual roles of women in many sub-saharan African societies foster those behaviors. The virus isn't acting differently, PEOPLE are.
You also neglect to mention the fact that many of the diseases used to diagnose AIDS in Africa are either opportunistic in nature ordinarily treatable but lead to death in AIDS patients.

Wouldn't we have far less unplanned pregnancies in this country? Even if HIV does cause AIDS, heterosexual transmission is about 1/1,000 compared to 1/2 or 1/3 in real STDs. There are plenty of stereotypes about Africans, how they rape virgins and engage in barbaric sex practices, but these are mostly racist myths from Victorian times.

The tests don't look for actual virus. They were designed to react to proteins supposedly linked to HIV, like those that fast-track gay junkies had in their blood in the early 80s. People have tested both negative and positive, depending on different circumstances, like testing locations and survey questions

By the way, I volunteer for an HIV support organization in Montreal, and I know many people on HAART who are doing quite well. If you took the time to ask and listen, you could find people who were on their deathbeds in 1996 until HAART was created and are now as healthy as ever.

@mtlgreen If I were to do that, I'd be more concerned about Hepatitis or another infection. And if I were, there'd be no way to determine if I'd been infected, because there is no recognized standard of determining HIV infection. The test inserts say so.
The only improvement HAART had was that it was not AZT. That's why people started living longer. The leading cause of death among HIV+s is liver failure, not related at all to HIV, but a direct effect of HAART, along with disfigurement

The first two AIDS diseases were KS and PCP. KS appeared almost exclusively in gay men, PCP almost exclusively in heroin users. HIV must be a very smart virus to cause risk group specific diseases.

Not everyone who got KS lesions used poppers. It was proved that poppers and other drugs weakened the immune system, thereby speeding up the progression of HIV to AIDS, but no study effectively linked KS lesion locations with poppers.
KS was not "the original AIDS disease". Pneumocystis, KS, CMV, cryptococcus, toxoplasmosis, and others were opportunistic viruses that ravaged the bodies of the infected once HIV/AIDS took out their immune systems. Where are you getting your information from?

There is only a scant amount of hard evidence that remains of Robert R.'s case, and what is left only proves that he may have had an earlier strain of HIV. Not the one that spread explosively in the late '70s. Not the one that Dugas had.
The movie's good, but read the book. And the Band Played On is an excellent in-depth chronicling of the scientific, cultural, and political obstacles met in the early years of the disease's presence in the U.S. that enabled it to spread so far and wide.

AIDS came about because a small group of urban gay men ruined their immune systems with heavy drug use (poppers, cocaine, heroin, etc.), and overdosing on antibiotics due to a recurrence of STDs from the fast track lifestyle. HIV became the "official" cause because it was both profitable for hack doctors and politically correct for the population.
AIDS does not behave like a contagious disease. It has remained in its original risk groups for 30 years. Infectious diseases don't behave that way.

It is, however, true that the prevalence of HIV is higher amongst gay men in America (but, a very large fraction of American infectees are heterosexual).

The fact that those two rates are so different is an active strike against the "HIV causes AIDS" hypothesis. If HIV were the sole cause of AIDS, as you suggest, then AIDS cases would be 50-50. They are not.

Additionally, PCP did NOT primarily target heroin users. Michael Gottlieb's original five cases of PCP were all in homosexual men. Many people diagnosed with PCP were also diagnosed with Kaposi's Sarcoma

Those are symptoms of things like malaria, TB and parasitic infections. AIDS in Africa is probably just reclassification of old diseases, which are mostly caused by malnutrition. The powers that be never got the heterosexual epidemic they wanted in this country, so they always point to Africa as an example of straight transmission.

Additionally, the CDC's case control study ruled out poppers or other drugs as the source of AIDS as far back as 1981. We've known for 29 years that it's not drugs that cause AIDS (excepting the cases of transmission via IV drugs; but in those cases, it's the needle that is at fault)!

When AIDS came about, it was only a few years after the CDC had blown a few flu cases out of proportion to scare the country into thinking a new 1919 epidemic was upon us. They then pushed a lousy vaccine on the public that killed far more people than did the actual flu. Of course the CDC was going to look for a viral cause, because epidemics are the only thing that they can use to justify their existence.

antiretrovirals have extended the lives of thousands of HIV-infected people who would otherwise develop AIDS. Admittedly, they are super fucking expensive and I am ashamed that the drug companies that manufacture them are more concerned about money than saving lives, but they work. You can't cure viruses, and because of the way HIV works, you can't vaccinate (it doesn't matter HOW many memory lymphocytes you have, without T4 cells, your immune system won't work).

Everyone who took massive doses of the failed chemo drug AZT in the late 80s/early 90s died. As doses were lowered, people started living longer. The current leading cause of HIV positives is liver failure, which is not even an AIDS defining disease, but a direct effect of the toxic drugs.

Nonnenja, most people with HIV DO develop AIDS, unless they take HAART (which, of course, still has AZT in it). The only issue is how LONG it takes for them to develop AIDS. People in America are living longer with HIV than they used to is because our symptomatic treatment is better than it once was, and because they are taking HAART. In Africa and other parts of the world, where treatment is worse and HAART is unavailable, HIV + patients develop AIDS more quickly.

The overall theme of the story is that a public health crisis spun out of control because of people pursuing their narrow agendas: egotistical scientists, defiant gays, moralizing politicians, greedy blood bankers, etc. Have a nice day.

@Seasass actually it is the excessive narcissism, hubristic arrogance and immorality of the homo community that caused the epidemic coupled with the FACT that liberalism's ideology of self loathing and hatred for others provided them with a scapegoat to absolve themselves of RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS and BLAME others for their debauchery and it has only gotten worse with the annointing and coronation of the obamamessiah.
