What about an acoustic resonator of some kind, rather than just going for the electrical pickup? I think that might sound alot warmer, especially if you used wood, cardboard, or something soft. Of course then you can't put any effects on the sound and it won't be as loud. No reason you can't do both acoustic and electric!
Hmm, I haven't thought about using an acoustic resonator, but I think I will stick to a piezo with this one. I have loads of funky springs thou, so I'll make one with an acoustic resonator next time..
