Hey great video. I'd like to know what tools you use to make the bird toys. Especially when making toys out of a hanger. I still haven't seen your other videos as I just found this one and hope I'm not asking an idiotic question because you show it in one of the other videos. But if I don't ask now I will forget my question LOL
hey what rope whould i use for a budgie toy, ia hve owned larger birds but he sadly passed of old cage (33 years) so i decided to get a budgie i want to used something thin but strong
CLOTHES HANGER WIRE IS NOT SAFE FOR BIRDS/PARROTS! Unknown metal, contains zinc. Toxic. Parrots die from zinc/heavy metal poisoning.
STAINLESS STEEL, or quality nickle plate is THE ONLY safe metal for birds.
Please listen...I know what I am talking about. I lost my first cockatiel to metal poisoning. Avian veterinarian confirmed. NOW I KNOW...and tryiong to save others suffering the same loss.
some wood from trees are unsafe for birds. you should talk about that. apple is safe and manzanita too. But not all tree branches are safe and not recommended!!
Omg! Your videos are great!!!! I just found them maybe 15 minutes ago and they are great!!! I'm 13, and pretty new to the bird world....so I'm trying to cram as much into my brain as possible!!! Your certainly helping a lot!!! My bird likes them too, xD she perked up all of a sudden when she heard the rattle!
thanks for this vid! ive made homemade toys aswell for my green cheeked conure which he loves haha but i love the cloak hanger idea and im going to get some strong beads! =)
Thanks so much for the cool ideas--went out and got the items I needed and my birds love the toys. I have 4 cockatiels, a lovebird, and a new little Quaker. I will post a vid response.
Hanger wire is not safe. It is an unknown cheap metal, may contain zinc. Any metals that rust are not recommended for parrots. Stainless steel is the only safe metal, and some good quality nickel plated.
Another great video and the commentary by Widget in the background is perfect. Gabriel (my Quaker) loves to sit and watch her while I watch you, lol. Your toy tips are invaluable ... thank you thank you.
As far as I know, hemp is safe. I have used it to make a few toys with no ill effects. However, I recommend cotton twine or jute, which closely resembles hemp, but is a bit stiffer and more wiry.
I love your videos! I have been making a ton for our lovebird and amazon parrot! :) Thanks for all the hard work and video's that you do! I love watching!
You're welcome! For a Cockatoo, you should go heavy on the "destructibles." Invest in a few untreated 2x4s, and cut them into chunks. Drill holes and add some knots with rope or leather. You can hang them up or leave them sitting around in the cage for Lovey to chew to bits. :)
can these bird toys also be used for cockatiels and budgies ??
