no, the dvd was never released because eric didn't like the playing of one of his players(possibly himself, considering how much worse these are compared to the originals, although these versions are legendary)
He is what he is a pro at his craft just like Jeff Beck ,Jimmy Page ,Stevie Ray was and on and on The guitar is an extention of there heart and soul thats why there is so much feeling in what they give us musically
great performance. I just don't understand why his rhythm guitarist Andy (don't know his surname) always moves like hes playing awesome solos but just playing the song.. lol :)
Rhythm guitar is an art just like lead, and in Blues it can have a lot of improvising in it. It's fun to just dig into the groove and see where it takes you. Besides, if you can't feel it, you shouldn't be playing it.
Clapton was not always a Fender man. On John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, arguably the most important blues-rock record ever made, he played a '59 Les Paul. He is responsible for the Les Paul craze. Everybody bought one They were all originals; they no longer made them. they never sold that well. They started making them again in '68. The man who re-invented Gibson Corp. overnight now has an endorsement deal with Fender! In light of Clapton's mgmnt over the years I find this thought provoking.
Clapton was at his peak using the gibson sg while with cream, nothing he has done since with the strat or his earlier playing has come close to the sustain and tone he got from playing the sg.
I agree. he's playing 'twinky tone' now like everyone else! Long live Dick Dale! actually I loved Bluesbreakers and hated Cream at the time, but I've changed. I dig the newer stuff too; it's just a different approach. Besides, Fender gave him the endorsement deal. Think of all the Les Pauls he sold for Gibson since '68!
But when he wants to really get down on some blues, it's a Gibson 335, a Bydland or that L-5 looking thing he plays on "from the Cradle..."
Correct. The tone is in your hand. What's in your hand is your life experience and sensibilities. That wasn't really my point or what I was trying to infer. Clapton could sound good on a broomstick!
@conarym9 you have to know how to play the type of guitar you're using to sound good: feeling is not all...It took me years to understand how to make a Fender ring while I had no problem with Gibsons. I noticed Clapton sounds always much better on a Gibson, and much better with challenging musicians, not "employees"... There could be several reasons...
I was so lucky to watch EC on "Nothing but the bloustour", it was pure magic. He was on fire, like the old days with Cream and Derek and the dominoes.
Sounds like he stole this one when he was in cream. Strange brew lol

I like clapton cause most of his stuff isn't elaborately technical or tricky but damn it sounds good.
And simple doesn't necessarily mean easy either, some of those bends are very difficult...
He's a legend

Search "sheriff clapton crossroads festival"
I have seen him rock it out recently. He still is awesome.... There is nothing "was" about him.

Fairweather was on the unplugged CD and more of course. He is a great guitarist.

it doesn't matter what king of guitar you have. If you put the feeling and emotion into your playing then it'll sound good.

Looks like the neck pickup. He was most likely playing low-powered Tweed Twins on this tour. My favorite Clapton tone is ES-335 thru Twin...

Anyone happen to know if thats bridge pick up, neck etc?

As for me that was the best era of Eric in the last 20 years, what do you think?
gdsoraiz 4 years ago 5
Yeah, I agree. He was playing incredibly at this time.
Eternalhue 4 years ago 6
@Eternalhue
the Cream era was pretty good too in my opinion.
shiftymeister 1 year ago
@gdsoraiz me thinks he is inspired cause SRV and Albert King both just passed recently, so Eric was like, lets go out and kick some ass!
hemet92544 1 year ago
@gdsoraiz - Yes, mature bluesy voice, sick ass chops, and especcially the Robert johson stuff, most excellent, far superior to his 60's and 70's work

@gdsoraiz Yes absolutely ! When he was doing his "Nothin But the Blues Tour"

Yeah, I'll keep posting most of them. He didn't play double trouble in this concert though.

Oh ok , think he use to mix and match between 'early in the morning' & 'Double trouble' , DB was my favourite by far.....
