@buddhher < Good point- hole cards are sometimes only confidence builder.
Here Rheem looking at Eastgate's A-Q declares, "I got him" ! How could the "only pro at the table" jump to conclusion that A-K is the best cards pre-flop ? Seems like math fails when luck runs out.
@buddhher < True but assuming that chip leader would buckle under pressure of all-in preflop bet by low stack is a big mistake by a seasoned professional. On these final tables, staying alive is more important than gaining extra chips.
@buddhher hah that doesnt seem to be the case at the main event final table. this year rheems AK lost to AQ and in 2009 Phil Iveys AK lost to darvin moons AQ when they were both all in preflop
first of all...you have to have so much luck to even reach the money in the main event and secondly....demidov is quite clearly a pretty sick player considering some of the plays that he made in this event...not to mention some of the folds!
unlucky chino. i got deja vu about this hand this year's final table: a certain well known pro, a certain contender for youngest ever champion, a sick sick Q on the flop... poker is a cru-el game...
This was a great table of players, maybe no big-name Pro, but the play was as good as any of the last five Final Tables. Demidov, Eastgate, and Schwartz all were deserving of the championship. Luck is a part of the game, and to not acknowledge that is to seal your fate with ignorance.
you dont get that far in a tournament purely on luck, shut the fuck up. im sure he made great lay downs and a ton of other great decisions that got him to the final table, regardless of cards.
Not that amazing. He wasn't reading Eastgate. He said that just to rephrase "plz don't have a pair". Because if he gets called, he's either getting called by a pocket pair or Ace with high kicker. It's one or the other. If Eastgate doesnt' have a pair, then it's very well that Rheem is ahead.
Do you love playing POKER for fun and want to make some extra money then go to w w w. f u l l t i l t p o k e r . c o m to register and type poker956 on the referral code for an extra bonus.
Phillips plays like ass. His call of AQ into Schwartz's QQ was horrible. What is he expecting to beat in that spot after a raise and a re-raise? Lets look at what Schwartz's range is for a re-raise: AA,KK,AK,QQ or maybe JJ. Thats it, he's not running a squeeze play with Chino in. Philips' AQ is racing only one of those hands, and getting dominated by the rest. Thats how a good player thinks. A donk sees AQ, loses he's shit and calls. The only reason he's there is cos he ran hotter than the sun
Wonder what Norman Chad means when he states that Chino was the only "established pro" remaining... Both Eastgate and Demidov where 25/50$ regs online before this...
Wouldnt that qualify as an "established pro" in most places?
25/50$ regs online won't qualify as "established pro" when they are regs in WSOP or WPT or EPT LIVE games to be considered an established pro. Anybody with a lot of money can play 25/50$. Don't have to be a pro.
Chino had done well at WSOP events previously and had been around for several years while Eastgate/Demidov really didn't do anything of note until 2007/2008. They weren't very established.
Not saying he wasn't a pro-player but to call him established would be quite a stretch. Lots of people can be pro players, but they are often out of the profession in a year or two.
True true. Dunnou about you but it makes me mad how so many people say he's an ass and stuff just because he didnt jump up and down and scream and talk a lot during hands. That just seems to be the type of guy he is but hes really nice.
I've been watching Eastgate during this SCOOP series of tourneys on PS and he generally gets the chip lead but has played too aggressive and often donked away his lead. Although, today he was actually the 3rd person to get knocked out of the main event ($10,000+ buy in). It happens though..my boy RainKhan was out a bit after Eastgate. Heck, Daniel Negreanu blew $25k in like 2 minutes (9 hands) in the SCOOP Heads up championships.
I know this comment is old but I just want to point out that Eastgate final tabled the Irish Poker Open in '07, so it's untrue to say he had never played a live tourney.
i think the snap call with ace queen is stupid!he didnt even think.that guy phillips is shit, there was only one thing the russian could have done with the jacks.Move all in and take the blinds, antes and the bet, phillips wud call a raise with KQ and he did outflop him. Also I dont think the check on the turn was a good move, it was as if he was scared of the 3. then when the king came he knew he was safe to bet and if the russian had a hand he was being forced to call.weak play in my opinion.
Phillips played great poker to get to the final table. Then, no doubt due in part to some so called 'expert' tuition, he tried to get clever on the final table, ended up making a massive bellend of himself and ended up being very lucky to finish as high as he did.
I think Phillips' check on the turn was a thing of beauty. I mean, he couldn't expect the King of the river, but he sure set up Demidov perfectly for that big score.
lol, this I didn't even see Peter Eastgate in the first episode. He must have been playing just the pots he felt weakness in or something like that. His pot never really moved and with the blinds it would have if he was really tight.
lol. wow... you are so naive. Where do you think? they burn the cash? lol. It gets distributed amongst people who 'made the money' but most of it goes to the people who made the final table. And please dont use the word "ONLY" thats a huge understatement. "ONLY 9 MILLION", do you even have 1 million in ur bank account? lol.
yeah i am naive when it comes to poker on TV, sorry. i've never really watched it till now. I would think the top get gets more than "ONLY" 9 mill but i guess i asked too quickly without thinking first. my bad. and i only have 200k in my account but maybe i should play poker and become a millionaire!!!
couple of things, since no one was respectful enough to answer your question.
The prize pool is made up of the buy-ins, $10K/person.
With ~6800 players this year, that equals a $68 million pool. Once they know those numbers, the people running the tourney redistribute the money among those who finish in the top 10% of the tourney. The higher you finish, the bigger your cut of the pool is.
And if the chip counts don't indicate that, it's because each player started w/ 20K in chips, not 10K.
Absolutely. He redeemed himself a little bit there after the two bad moves earlier. And of course he bet a nice amount on the end as well with the Kings full. Nice hand for Dennis
everyone saying how disapointed they are that Chino got knocked out should remember how lucky he has got to even make the final table - if i was Chino i'd be blown away to finish 7th given how mamy suck outs he dealt throughout the tourney.
There's an all-in almost every hand. That's the WSOP for you, i guess.

why does first place only win 9 million? where does all that other money they are playing with go?
Orangeflava 3 years ago
lol. wow... you are so naive. Where do you think? they burn the cash? lol. It gets distributed amongst people who 'made the money' but most of it goes to the people who made the final table. And please dont use the word "ONLY" thats a huge understatement. "ONLY 9 MILLION", do you even have 1 million in ur bank account? lol.
kkboy85 3 years ago
yeah i am naive when it comes to poker on TV, sorry. i've never really watched it till now.

And if the chip counts don't indicate that, it's because each player started w/ 20K in chips, not 10K.

thank you so much for that straightforward and clear answer!
Orangeflava 2 years ago 6
@eljefereal
i´d say 30k...?
focckker 1 year ago
@focckker 30k was the starting stack in 2009.
eljefereal 1 year ago
@eljefereal The prize pool is not the total of the buy-ins. That would mean that the organizers are left with a very high bill.

@alxcsb ok, 9,400 for the pool, 420 for 'entry fees', and 180 for the staff.
(i actually didn't know what the distribution was until looking it up just now)
In other words, read your buy-in terms closely.
eljefereal 1 year ago
@eljefereal actually they start even with 30k chips! and with 2 hours blind levels lol best tournament structure ever!
blaupunkt600 1 year ago
@blaupunkt600 um no they started with 20k, work it out

Phil Helmuth "Idiot poker play from Northern Europe".. how much does he regret saying that now? makes him look like a bigger fool now!
kkboy85 3 years ago 2
Phil is an ass, but Peter Eastgate is still an idiot.
an idiot with a lot of luck.
Eastgate will get eaten if this is not a tournament but cash game.
jasoncsh 3 years ago
eaten by who? Philips?
you havent a clue what youre talking about
conoras 3 years ago
yeah if Phillips didn't win that AQ vs. QQ, I believe Schwartz would of won this to be honest. That hand took a lot of him it looks like.

what a great check on the turn
johhny3rubs 3 years ago
Absolutely. He redeemed himself a little bit there after the two bad moves earlier. And of course he bet a nice amount on the end as well with the Kings full. Nice hand for Dennis
Ayoudell 3 years ago
have you noticed that eastgate hasnt played a single big hand before that AQ
zeppelin64 3 years ago
Yea, your are right.. He is my favorite. 2 hours in train, and i can go visit him! =D

So far they haven't shown a single hand with Eastgate in it :(

everyone saying how disapointed they are that Chino got knocked out should remember how lucky he has got to even make the final table - if i was Chino i'd be blown away to finish 7th given how mamy suck outs he dealt throughout the tourney.
