Arturo Gatti used to put on quite a bit of weight between the weigh-in and the fight too. It makes things more dangerous than they should be for boxers.
Same applies to fighters dropping weight to move down. Body gets badly dehydrated and can put fighters ( in some cases ) in life threatning situations.
but will that not mean some fighters put on weight before a training camp so they can put it back on after the wieght in.

Yes exactly , it does mean that. So as far as the scales are concerned each fighter weighs the same , but after weigh in some can balloon up by quite a margin others not so much.
If a fighter with that added weight hits correctly the punch will do alot more serious damage. Which may not hav been the case had fighters weighed in on fight day.

Its an ongoing debate i suppose. But in some instances it doesnt make for a fair fight. Dont think some fans appreciate the difference it can make.

I am American and I do admit, U.S fighters are lacking and its in the heart, they just seem to not be able to step up when it matters and are more money hungry then wanting to seek the best competition. Its all in your own personal preference though, I can't stand the Witters and Mayweathers and just love Hatton's, Pacs and Margaritos in boxing. I know that Hatton vs. Pac will be a great fight, you have to be a bias jerk on either side to believe it will be a blow out. I am leaning on Pac.

Joe Calzaghe won by split decision (not a schooling) and Roy Jones has been washed up for 5 years, that's not really an accomplishment. Same with Tyson, Lewis fought him on the downside of his career, what a feat! Paul Malignaggi is an overrated bum, I could care less if he won or lost.
