  • The Johnny Pearson credit, explains the British sensibility here. My recollection of the piece is from the album, not as a B side, though it could have been. I remember thinking it could be developed into a longer piece and still feel that way.

  • The traditional easy listening and 'beautiful music' stations should've taken a hint and had this number on their playlists!!! It was a hell of a lot better than the stale 'custom recorded' remakes by a long shot!

  • Sorry, typo error. I meant it was not composed by R. Carpenter. The original composer was Johnny Pearson.

  • Actually this piece was composed by Richard Carpenter. It was composed by British pianist and musician Johnny Pearson and was originally titled as "autumn Reverie". Richard heard it over as background music in a commercial and loved it straight away.

  • I forgot this piece.. thanks for posting. There is a John Barry sensibility here.

Don't know why R.Carpenter hasn't scored any films.

  • @mgtdmk11 good call!!!! ive always said it sounds like a john barry piece and i always wondered why richard carpenter doesnt make ay scores for movies?...doesnt make sense...i thought i was the only one who thought that

  • @mgtdmk11 Wasn't this on the B-side of one of their singles?

  • @thespeez It was on the flip-side of the "Top of the World" single.

  • @NedNickerson2010 Thanks!

  • Es una hermosa pieza musical, Una interpretación extraordinaria-

Un saludo desde Cd. De México

  • I loved and love this music...for almost 40 years since I was a kid.

  • Dave here. I believe this song was used as background for (mental block) health supplement ad. A man says, "My wife! She - - -" does this, and does that, and takes (mental block) every day! (Looks like I could use some of that to cure my mental blocks! };- ] )

  • What is that noise at 2:14???? Did a jet fly over your house?? Did you computer decide to play something over the song???

  • @jamesadrian021957 Think it's just a bit of Goodbye To Love sneaked-in from the Live In Japan clip.

  • One of the best pieces of music ever. When I play it I can't stop listening to it, just set it on repeat play.

  • Lovely song...first time I've heard it. Thank you again for your excellent work!

  • wonderful thanx ever sooooo much for the wonderful video too : )

  • A beautiful piece of music.

  • Dit nummer heeft alles in zich. Geboren, het levenslicht zien, opgroeien, liefde, warmte, geborgenheid, vreugde, verdriet, tranen en dood

  • Know it from 'de plaat en zijn verhaal' from Radio Veronica. Fell in love the first time I heard it and I thought it was about time to find out what song it is:P

  • I hadn´t heard this song in years, it's simply awesome. One of the best instrumental songs ever written.

  • I personally picked this piece to be performed at our wedding. My now brother-in-law lit the candles in the church to this piece played by one of the church member.

  • wow, now Heather sounds so heartbreaking together with those images of Karen Carpenter. She will never be forgotten,

    thanks to Richard Carpenter

    and Youtube-channels

  • Yet another great video by Ned Nickerson. Heather is such a beautiful instrumental. This song makes me think about Karen, and how much I'd like to see her alive and healthy, like she was back in 1974. I can picture her with a dozen yellow roses, looking so beautiful. Yet there is a inner sadness that brings tears to my eyes when I hear this lovely song...

  • When I hear this song, I think of Heather of IDD, when she is alone and crying for to be hated for the rest.

  • damn, true masterpiece it's bringing me sum nice memories!

    it's even better on vinyl

  • This was n't a tribute to Karen. The number was taken from the album Now and Then. When this album came out, Karen was still alive. Listen to this music makes me a little bit sad. This was the last number played on Radio Veronica on the last of August 1974.

  • without a doubt this is my favorite album of the Carpenters.

  • A musical masterpiece. Hauntingly beautiful and a wonderful tribute to Karen.

  • Thank you so much, Ned. I can't listen to that songwithout tearing up .-. The interesting is that it doesnt have lyrics, so, how can it bring tears to our eyes? Richard's mistery. Love you and your best song "Heather", Richard Carpenter. ♥

  • @jailorsam1

I absolutely agree with every word Mein Herr....:)

  • Tears ALWAYS well up in my eyes when this song is played. Such a beautiful piece of music and arrangement. Thanks Richard (Carpenter).

  • ummm..... o.o

  • What a hauntingly beautiful piece.

Has always been one of my favorites.

  • I was named after this song...had no idea it was originally used in a Geritol commercial...still like it though :)

  • @cloud9er221 I named my daughter after this song also....knew nothing of the geritol ad though...my guess is that your parents were as moved by it as us.

  • This is so moving. What a tremendous tribute to an angel. Rest In Peace, Karen

  • This is another example of Richard's musical genius. His arrangements were always first rate and added so much to the overall "feel" of the song.

  • I had forgotten about this little gem! Thanks for the reminder!

  • Thanks Ned

  • The tune was written by Johnny Pearson, composer of All creatures Great and Small and Sleepy Shores and many more. He was also musical director of Top of the Pops for about 17 years. He was the musical director for the Carpenters when they had their BBC show, hence how Richard Carpenter came to use the tune on their album.

  • Lovely tribute. I always gets chill from this beautiful piano piece. Richard is a true musical genius. Thanks!

  • This brings tears to my eyes...for what was and for what is.

  • @richfincm Boy you are not kidding if you are a real fan.
