Oh I learned that if you make little velcro squares just for laundry then you never have velcro issues. I have started doing it and my velcro stopped curling and no lint in them now. It was better than just using the laundry tabs that I had on the diapers :) thought it might help since you are using velcro too! :) I stole the idea from another lady on here without video explaining how to do it.
omg thank you so much for this video, ive been looking online everywhere to see if i could use pul on the inside ad fabric on the outside so that way i could have a bunch od cute WATERPROOF diapers and now i know its possible!! thank you cant wait to see a video of you actually assembling the diaper!!
@iamprofessorchaos Im sorry, but its not. I made this pattern up just for the use of it to make diapers for my daughter. But there are lots of good patterns out there and there are also a lot of forums that have great ladies that can help you draft your own :)
why dont you use minkee? it makes them like a stay dry with the fleece over the pul inside. you will get wicking to the cotton via the holes in the sewing line. and you get a wet bot on outside.
@sewsweet08 I do love Minkee! But I actually have no leaking or wicking with these covers. I serge them and they come out great! We have had no problems at all :)
@garek5 Thanks for the heads up!! I have only line dried it so far really so I havent had any problems yet... but we will see in the future. I mostly used it for testing diaper patterns and i ordered the rest from kidsinthegarden so I am not too worried :)
@garek5 I used PUL from Hancocks on a pail liner I made for over a year and dried it in the dryer everytime and I never had problems with my PUL. And from what I hear JoAnns PUL is better than it use to be now.
what exactly is fold over elastic??? I want to make some diapers but I only have a basic dress maker sewing machine that only does one kind of sew pattern... just striaght... HELP thanks :)
@therex4xu its like soft elastic that you can use to finish the edges. It has elastic give in it but is soft so it is nice on baby skin. It comes with a line down the middle where you can fold it over the edge of the diaper. If you can only do a straight stitch you may want to try a diaper that you can hide and case your elastic into that way you dont have to have a zig zag stitch :) Good luck! Its addictive once you start making them
@LuvMySillyGoose i suppose it might bet a little dingy looking after a while... just like any other piece of cotton fabric would after lots of use. But i am not too worried cuz i dont think it will get TOO bad :)
Love the cupcake one!! I will be converting to CD once I move into my house at the end of the month and I have decided to make mine on top of buying "name brand" ones. I think making the newborn ones will be a lot cheaper than buying Joeys.
@ichigo8504 Thank you! I bought a few too but decided it was much cheaper to make them. And its really not that hard depending on what kind of a diaper you make. Good luck on the move and on starting your CD journey!!! We love it!
love the diapers. id love to see a video tutorial on how you make them. ive yet to come across a good hybrid diaper making video. I just started sewing this year and have so far managed to make fitteds and pockets but cant seem to figure out covers. I just love ur hybrid idea/design and it sounds like its a great method youve got for makin them. keep up the awsome work.
@tarynangel I would love to. I will be sure to film the next diaper i make. :) Thanks so much for your comment and you encouraging words!! I really appreciate it!! :)
@nolita505 I prefer using a Zorb II prefold that i made. It is from wazoodle.com and they are the only ones that sell zorb. Its amazing though and holds a ton of liquids!!
@garanandmelissa i surge it with the PUL sides both together for the gussets and for the flaps that go over the front and back, there is no cotton fabric on the inside of the diaper. I tried to make her wear it till it leaked... but felt bad after like 6 hours and changed it anyways. But the only moisture was on the FOE that was on the inside of the diaper. None of the cotton was wet. And i am totally excited about that too cuz there are so many more options with cotton than there are with pul
I sew as well, but so far I have only done pocket diapers. I will definitely try doing some similar to your design. I wanna make a good size stash so that I can cloth diaper from birth till potty training. Great job on the diapers you made .
@lovelychic900 Thank you so much!! I have made some pocket diapers too and they are the bulk of my stash but I have fallen in love with the hybrid diaper so i am gonna make my newborn stash in hybrids and also add a few to my one size stash as well! Good luck on the diaper making. It is seriously addicting :)
Go look at the new generation hybrid diaper on etsy. I'm making my own version of hybrid too snd just drafted my pocket pattern and am in love just have to change a few things!! Man we need to chat lol. Love coming up with new things
@SunshineJoi OMG those new generation diapers are adorable! I think i wanna order one! They are so cute! I love making new things too! I just love making things :) lol. And i absolutley LOVE the hybrid type diapers. They are seriously the easiest and most leak proof diaper i have ever tried. My daugther just went like 5 and a half hours in the one i made yesterday and i changed her with no leaks. I just felt bad for leaving it on so long when the insert was pretty wet. But they are so reliable!
What do you use for around the edges of the diaper?

Be careful with that pul from Joanns. It will delaminate and fall apart if you run it thru the dryer! Just a headsup. Hancocks is bad as well.

When you put the cotton over the PUL does any moisture wick onto the outer layer? That would solve my Cute PUL Prints = Expensive problem....

@maelismomma Yes and I thought it could help you in drafting your pattern!!!
I'm going to order the just because lol.
I love hybrids too, and can get enough of them.
I am doing some cloth wipes tonight, and drafting my wet bag prototype.
Then as soon as I get fold over elastic I'm going to draft my hybrid!!!
OMG! I love your homemade diapers you made for your daughter so I can't wait to see your hybrid.
