Our Budgies liked tap water, just room temperature. Our Canaries liked ice cubes in their water. Soon as you put the ice in the water they would jump in!
cute (but never fill the dish with that much water, and get a dish with a grooved bottom to prevent slipping, if they slip they will NEVER want to take a bath again)
my budgie never wants to take a bath!! i put not to cold or not to hot water, and it tries to escape and get away, and when i put my hand in, it tries to climb and get away :-\ any ideas?? i tried and tried, im afraid im doing something wrong and hurting it... :(
so sweet... i wonder why my budgie's dont like to take bath...the live in huge indoor aviary , i can see the finches bathing but not the budgies...wonder why
it's so weird how they look so dry in videos but i know when my babies take there baths after their done bickering at each other on who's getting in first, their soaked. and it's not even a big as big as that one.
How do u git ur bird to like baths? Cuz My Birds Trust Me aNd Go Out NN PLaY oUtsiDe the CAge wiff Me All The Time but Der ABSOLUTY scared of water and baths!
Not sure. The other one we had wanted to get in the water sooo bad, but he just couldn't muster the courage to get in. We tried everything.............
@TheVaNiLLaCuPcAkE I've been trying for years to get my birds to bathe, and I think we had a break through today; as I was typing, I felt some water spashing on me, and when I looked up one of the babes was washing in his water dish. The trick? Show them videos like these! I'm not even kidding, it might work. Then again, there are just some birds that will not bathe :-(
@TheVaNiLLaCuPcAkE Mine prefers showers. I let the tap run with lukewarm water (try to get the same as temperature room so your bird doesnt catch a cold)
Then I let it run around it a little, it should be curious about the water. Then I splash a little bit of water around him and a little bit on him. It should hop on your hand to go see the water you need to be patient (all budgies are different tho but they usually like water). My tap is shiny and that helps too, it sees reflection. :)
You have to get him used to getting on your finger while in the cage, by placing it under his chest. He will hop on it eventually. Be patient, and when he gets comfortable with that you can try to get him out on your finger. MAKE sure it's safe! No ceiling fans running, no windows open, etc. cuz he will fly.
@giantd My bird Buzz, he is very friendly so i leave the fan on because it can be very hot and he know not to fly near it. Should i turn it off though, just incase?
@spinerling -Something may startle the bird and he might forget about the fan-that would be awful. If it's that hot, maybe get a small box fan or one with a guard around the blade. I wouldn't let it blow on him though, he might get sick. Good Luck!
Budgies can drown in a glass of water, but that's because it's too narrow for them to get out. I don't know about leaving a bowl in a cage. In any case there's not need for one; they don't bathe everyday.
how do u get it to take a bath? because whenever i take my budgies to the wash room the run away frum the water and one of my birds died too on may 4th 2009 :(
Put the bowl in the cage. Some birds will jump in, some won't. One of ours wanted to, but was "chicken"! Our canaries liked an ice cube in the bowl, but our budgies liked it lukewarm.
He would stand on the edge of the water bowl and start to get in, and just could not bring himself to hop in, even while watching Gracie swim around. We tried a lot of times,
put a bowl in the cage and but a budgie in the water it want drown dont worry and then take out ur had leve it for few minutes dont go in dat room or u can keep and they might be playing in the water bowl
sooo adorable! My parakeets love their baths as well but I never let the water get too deep. They also love to go under the facet when water is running.
You would not want to get a bird used to bathing in the sink. It may be left full of unclean or soapy water of too deep a depth and there is a possibility they may get in without you being there and drown.
He was the best. He was a friend to all that met him, and a joy to be around. He even got in the shower with me a couple of times! Watch the other vids of him playing ball, and eating with our bunnyrabbit. Gracy, we think of you everyday. D + K
I got lucky with Gracy. The other bird never did trust me, so I guess it really depends on the bird. We just were kind to them and gave them treats. Good Luck.
3 monthes to a year-depends on many things. The water should be room temperature for budgies. Our canaries didn't bathe unless you put an ice cube in their tub!
total sweetness. i wish my two would do that. and it is not for a lack of trying. the boy we had before them would bath in a trickle of water too, the louder the sound of the mini "waterfall" the more he loved it.
What a cute little guy!! So sweet!! I just got 2 budgies (Neelix and PeeWee) and am starting to tame them. Its going well! I cant wait to take them out of their cage!!!
How cool. You may be an experienced birder, but if you're not-read all you can, make SURE all the ceiling fans are off, the windows are shut, and have a birdnet or some way to catch them if they get in harm's way. Good Luck, let's see 'em on youtube!
We had keets before but I want able to tame them. My mom had one for years and he talked and you could play with him. Thank you for your advice. Do you know any good websites about budgies with advice. This is my first time taming some, so much advice would be great!
I am going to try and post short video on here today. We'll see how it goes!
2 words- goo-gle (google) haha. There is a school of thought that if you give them a mirror, they will get too wrapped up in it to bond with you. I believe that. And remember, perch them on your finger, not in your palm. They wil feel trapped.
They sit in my palm to eat their millet spray. What is a good treat that you have found that works well. I would like to be able to reward them, or give them something "special" especially when they start coming out of the cage. Thank you for answering all my questions! I put a video on, but when I search for it I cant find it. It is titled "Neelix and PeeWee beginning their taming" Its only 27 seconds long... but I was excited! LOL
Mine liked to try anything! Remember-NO avacado or chocolate for ANY bird-it may kill them! Youtube takes a little time to process vid's. Try again later.
I have to budgie, and they LOVE to bathe. Sometimes that means, I have more to clean-up afterwards than what I started out with. But I never mind. They're precious! Thanks for sharing!
We miss him every day.........what a joy he was. It's so neat that he lives thru youtube-I get to see him everytime some kind soul like you comments on these videos. Thank you.
He's a male. You can tell by the blue cere, the band over their beak. Females will have a pink or plain cere. BUT, the color doesn't come for a few monthes after birth, so you name them before you're sure what they are!
hi i know this has really nothing to do with the video but if anybody can give me tips on how to take good care of my new conure that i will be getting tomarrow...see the thing is i never had a bird before soo this is going to new for me...i did read about how to take care of them and about them but i think i still need some tips from experianced bird owners plz help me out...thanx!!!!
Just have lots a patience. Make sure you try very hard to not upset the bird for the first few weeks, or a month. Also give it as much time as you need to let it settle in, maybe not even trying to get near it for a week or two. Take it one step at a time to bond with it, and dont rush. Dont get upset if it runs from your hand.
I had a green parakeet, his name was M & M. He was my favorite color always chirping for food, he ate ALOT of veggies, and he lived 20 years, the more they live the more you become attacked to them, I know how you feel :(
I posted over a year ago, but what happend was my wife was walking out the door and Gracie hopped on her shoulder. My wife never knew till it was too late. He flew up into a tree and as we were calling to him, a friggin hawk took off with him. Dammit! The ironic thing is that we let all of our birds keep their flight feathers so they could fend for themselves from dogs and cats if they got out................never thought about a hawk.
well, i geuss just a mash up of all Gracy's videos, with a nice song in the backround. and also maybe a few small speeches. to tell the truth i miss gracy too, even though i only know gracy from youtube. I love gracy like i love one of my own birds. may gracy rest in peace.
well, right now he's on a road trip! in his cage in the living room! he's chirping up a storm.
i also have a few videos of my bird eeppeep right here on youtube.
a good tool to editing videos is microsoft xp moviemaker. when you open the window it says import videos. you click on that and it opens up a file to your videos. you put your videos together and can add text titles credits and songs.
It took me only 6 weeks to get my budgy very tame. He also loved taking a bath. Unfortunately he died 2 weeks ago. I think he died because of the bad eating habits. He liked to eat everything.
I think Gracy missed the woman that hand fed him, whom we got him from. He was kinda stand-offish at first, so we got him a parakeet playmate. Then he decided he liked liked us more that the other bird. It worked backwards. Ours also ate everything. He never missed a meal with us! Sorry for your loss....
a good way for your budgie to take a bath go into the bathroom wet your finger and put it on the top of the head of your budgie and this leave the water runing
Your budgie is the lovliest colours! Mine baths but never goes as fully under as yours does lol, he never manages to get his back wet, i like the idea of leaving a small trickle out the tap
Stay tuned, I've found some great video of Gracie bathing in my hands. I knew I had it somewhere, and my wonderful wife found it yesterday! I will post it soon, I have to convert it from another camera, quality might suffer. Also Gracie talking some more will be posted soon. Thank you all for you're comments and interest. Gracie has the kind of soul that makes you proud to be a part of his life, however cut short it was.
I guess they're all different. Mine always looked as if we were punishing them when we sprayed them, too. Our other 'keet wanted to bath, but never could get the courage to get in the tub. He would stare at the water for hours, but just couldn't bring himself to do it! Get a little tub with a mirror bottom, they like that.
my budgie, noddy, hates water,we tryed spraying him but he just closed his eyes and fluffed all his feathers up. my friends budgie loves it though and fully gets in to it. wat should i try?
They bath everyday on their own. We had another that was afraid to get in the tub, even though he stared at it he just could not make the plunge. But spraying him seemed like punishment, so we quit. They need their little bottoms clean more than the top anyway. And that's about all that misting does. Our Canaries loved an icecube in thier water. That always got them to go in!
he looks SOOO much like my budgie Glorfindel...He's got the same colour from what i can see...and he also loves baths...its hilarious...by the time he's done there's water EVERYWHERE!!! lol
I think it's a trust issue. Our other parakeet would watch, and want to bath so bad, but he just couldn't bring himself to make the first plunge. Gracie felt really comfortable with us. I wish I had video of him bathing in my hands under the running water. Talk about connected, love, and trust! (We love you, Gracie!)
my parakeet does that too, except he swims like a duck. Just type in My swimming parakeet and you'll see my parakeet! You have to wait a while though, because i just uploaded it.
We started this wonderful journey with canaries. Impossible to tell the young boys from the girls with them. So, this great, gentle, smart, wise, loving, soul got misnamed at birth-Gracie!-then the cere developed, and uh-oh! Stay tuned, more to come from Gracy, her cagemate Boo-Boo, and their friend, a California Grey rabbit! (I couldn't make this up!)
Our Budgies liked tap water, just room temperature. Our Canaries liked ice cubes in their water. Soon as you put the ice in the water they would jump in!

Sorry man, i have budgies too but how did it drown cant really think about it.
Robfre96 2 years ago
Your bird didn't drown. Birds are cautious, it would have checked the depth before going in for a bath.
Your bird probably died from natural causes, and fell into the bath.
Birds are stoic little creatures, they won't let on that they are ill untill it's too late to save them.
verticalsmurf 2 years ago
Budgies can drown in a glass of water, but that's because it's too narrow for them to get out. I don't know about leaving a bowl in a cage. In any case there's not need for one; they don't bathe everyday.

the bowl was probably too deep for your bird. I put a large but shallow casserole dish in my bird cage for my six birds. They can't drown in it.

We had good luck with the little bathtubs with a mirror in the bottom, or you might try a slow drip at the sink. Good luck!

Get a little tub with a mirror bottom, they like that.

do budgies prefer their baths to be cold or lukewarm?
lilmissfarah 4 years ago
Lukewarm... never cold... they'll get sick :)
But be sure taht it isn't too hot. They might prefer cold bath's but you should´never let them do it, cause they get the cold easily.

how often should we bath the bird? we just got one and I had to spray him with water then he seemed cold... help

So cute. My birds hate water so this is not normal and see this in my home.

How do you get your budgie to do that? My budgie absolutely hates bathing and he hasn't done so in the longest time. I don't know what to do!
