And Ron admires Hermione's determination so much... Just read the books and you can tell that they're perfect for each other.
i think the real reason that harry ended up with ginny and hermione with ron is so that they ended up together at the end. Because of ginny and ron being siblings, they are all related now and so are their children. It's not like ron could have ended up with ginny (what with them being siblings and all) so it makes sense for the couples to be the way they are in the end. If harry and hermione had gotten together, who would ron have ended up with? it makes sense in hindsight.

@dingopee Ron and Hermione remind me of Elizabeth and Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. They bicker constantly and both of them are too proud to admit they're in love with the other one. I love relationships like that. Ron and Hermione are not the perfect couple, but they balance each other out. I think Harry and Hermione would work as a couple too, but they would both be too serious and boring. They need spouses like Ron and Ginny to spice it up a little.
That's not how it should have been. Ginny and Harry have always had a connection. Even when Ginny was young and she had her little "obsession." If you think Hermione and Harry belong together you're probably just looking at the movies.
@zizzeryy I'll have to disagree on both counts. Harry never showed any kind of reaction to Ginny's existence after he saved her from the chamber. Ginny always liked Harry but she was hardly even in the books until the fifth book where Harry still could have cared less. I can't think of a single time that Harry expressed concern or really anything relating to Ginny until book six, including in the Department of Mysteries when she hurt her ankle. Whereas, Harry and Hermione permeate those books.
@zizzeryy But isn't the main argument against a Harry/Hermione pairing that they only have sibling love? Why does that work for Harry/Ginny? At least there was build for Harry/Hermione, Harry/Ginny didn't get any. Whether it happens that fast and without build in the real world or not, it doesn't work in a book because it's not satisfying when things come out of left field like that. As toxic as they are (huge time-bomb), Ron/Hermione at least had build. Harry/Ginny didn't even have that.

I loved it, don't get me wrong, I just felt that maybe the film should've been rated R instead of PG-13. Even though there wasn't anything in it that you haven't seen in other PG-13 films but for Harry Potter, I just felt that the whole sex scene and the violence,etc...was actually deserving of an R.
And it was scary to just because of the fact that it's essentially the HP version of the Holocaust. Was kinda hard to watch actually. And very sad.
Well I mean, I know it's not an official type sex scene, it was the result of evil. But it still techincally qualifies which is why you might hear some people referring to it that way.

And yes, every harry potter film has violence, I just thought DH1 has the most in your face violence.
@MsSlashgirl Sorry, when as just kissing ever = sex? You saw nowt more than some intense snoggery. It's in the Riddle Harry-Riddle Hermione part of the Silver Doe chapter in the book. Ron sees images of what he fears the most just as he's about to destroy the locket. Read it again and you'll see. The rating for the film is a gentle warning that it may contain themes that are for a slightly more mature audience than the earlier films. JK herself wote the books that way. No biggie!
@TraffordReds9 my first thought was sex because it would be one thing if they were just kissing but I mean really, they were naked enough to suggest sex was about to happen, which would make sense seeing as how Ron was jealous about a possible romance with them. At least IMO. And obviously because there might be younger kids they can't show any sex which is why strategically placed clouds are there. So I mean, to me it was implied.
@MsSlashgirl But that isn't a sex scene - at all. It's just a kissing scene, albeit a very intense one. And it's in the film because it's in the book. And the film in the US is PG13 so prudes could always have given it a miss if they get hot under the collar over a wee bit of snogging.
Hermione always seems to throw herself into Harry's arms and not Ron's. Only in DH she kind of threw herself into Ron lol I think Harry and Hermione have shared many pretty and/or intense moments together and they deserved each other better. Maybe JK wanted to not be obvious or something when choosing the couples when she suddenly put Harry with Ginny... Even the way he fell for her was stupid in my opinion.
I'm seriously considering not watching Part 2 of the Deathly Hallows just so I don't have to see Ron kiss Hermione... It is kind of sad that it is a horcrux that shows us how it should have been.. but I'll take what I can get and imagine my own end.

But as for you saying that she lacks personality.... huh? Ginny doesn't have nearly as big a role as Hermione, but you do get quite a picture of her character. She's actually more outgoing and adventurous than Hermione, as she plays Quidditich and plays pranks.
@SportHorse10 i was referring to "Movie Ginny". In the movie, Ginny seems to be the quiet and random type rather than playful. She barely makes any sense (i blame the awful acting and lack of scenes)
@jniin07, Well, there I would have to completely agree with you. A person who hasn't read the books would wonder why on earth Harry and Ginny became a couple based on Bonnie Wright's lack of acting. She actually may be a good actor, but from her role in the current films you'd never know.
Their relationship was never developed at all. Ginny was just invisible in the background for five years and then in the sixth book: BAM! Harry was spontaneously head over heels for her. I mean...whaaat? We don't even know much about her, or nothing at all. Hermione, Ron, Neville, they're characters we know.
Although I don't completely dislike the Ron & Hermione relationship, I do think (and will always think) Harry and Hermione should have ended up together.
@Selumgirl NOT in the books, Ginny had MUCH more of a presence in the books. It's the movies that have completely screwed everything up. They've gone downhill steadily since OOTP, in my opinion, because no one is given enough time to be a fully fleshed-out character anymore. Tonks, Lupin, Ginny, Cho, the rest of the Weasleys, heck, even Sirius, Hagrid, and the rest of the Hogwarts faculty have sort of been pushed aside. It's insulting to someone like me who's a bit of a book purist.
@ladycplum I understand your outrage, I am a big fan of the books as well. But I can say that I still found Ginny's character to be too bland, even in the books (compared to ther characters who were shown and developed as three-dimentional).
And as for Book vs. movie, though I agree that they could have done a better jod with the adaptation, one must understand that they are different languages with dif resources to tell a story. You can never expect to get the depth and feeling in the movie.
@Selumgirl well if you read the books, i think at some point JK Rowling thought that as well, but as the story developed i think she was kinda like... ok well no, let's flip the story a little bit, you know, unexpected things kinda gives "taste" to the storyline, and at some points when i was reading the books i was like nahhh it's going to be harry/hermione, but suddenly something happens and you're like ok no, it's going to be hermione/ron and so on xD.

I think Hermione and Ron behave more like brother and sister than Harry and Hermione. It's like the worst pairing, but its Rowlings book and she wanted it that way so all I can do is try to see what she saw to make the pairings she did.

@dingopee Ron and Hermione remind me of Elizabeth and Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. They bicker constantly and both of them are too proud to admit they're in love with the other one. I love relationships like that. Ron and Hermione are not the perfect couple, but they balance each other out. I think Harry and Hermione would work as a couple too, but they would both be too serious and boring. They need spouses like Ron and Ginny to spice it up a little.

That's not how it should have been. Ginny and Harry have always had a connection. Even when Ginny was young and she had her little "obsession." If you think Hermione and Harry belong together you're probably just looking at the movies.

@zizzeryy I'll have to disagree on both counts. Harry never showed any kind of reaction to Ginny's existence after he saved her from the chamber. Ginny always liked Harry but she was hardly even in the books until the fifth book where Harry still could have cared less. I can't think of a single time that Harry expressed concern or really anything relating to Ginny until book six, including in the Department of Mysteries when she hurt her ankle. Whereas, Harry and Hermione permeate those books.

@zizzeryy But isn't the main argument against a Harry/Hermione pairing that they only have sibling love? Why does that work for Harry/Ginny? At least there was build for Harry/Hermione, Harry/Ginny didn't get any. Whether it happens that fast and without build in the real world or not, it doesn't work in a book because it's not satisfying when things come out of left field like that. As toxic as they are (huge time-bomb), Ron/Hermione at least had build. Harry/Ginny didn't even have that.

Haveto agree,the Harry Potter movies are much better than the books.
Whatever people say,it is very tough to convert a 700 page book to a 3 hour film and the harry potter series has done it amazingly!! That's the reason I like the Harry Potter films better than the books.Some people may disagree,some may agree,but,for me,THE MOVIES KICK THE BOOKS' BUTT!!

This movie was pretty shocking IMO.
I loved it, don't get me wrong, I just felt that maybe the film should've been rated R instead of PG-13. Even though there wasn't anything in it that you haven't seen in other PG-13 films but for Harry Potter, I just felt that the whole sex scene and the violence,etc...was actually deserving of an R.
And it was scary to just because of the fact that it's essentially the HP version of the Holocaust. Was kinda hard to watch actually. And very sad.

There's been a certain level of 'violence' in every HP film. I think the rating for this was fine. Not sure about DH2 yet, though.

Well I mean, I know it's not an official type sex scene, it was the result of evil. But it still techincally qualifies which is why you might hear some people referring to it that way.
I don't recall that scene being in the book but then, I read it a few months ago.
And yes, every harry potter film has violence, I just thought DH1 has the most in your face violence.

@MsSlashgirl Sorry, when as just kissing ever = sex? You saw nowt more than some intense snoggery. It's in the Riddle Harry-Riddle Hermione part of the Silver Doe chapter in the book. Ron sees images of what he fears the most just as he's about to destroy the locket. Read it again and you'll see. The rating for the film is a gentle warning that it may contain themes that are for a slightly more mature audience than the earlier films. JK herself wote the books that way. No biggie!

@TraffordReds9 my first thought was sex because it would be one thing if they were just kissing but I mean really, they were naked enough to suggest sex was about to happen, which would make sense seeing as how Ron was jealous about a possible romance with them. At least IMO. And obviously because there might be younger kids they can't show any sex which is why strategically placed clouds are there. So I mean, to me it was implied.

@MsSlashgirl But that isn't a sex scene - at all. It's just a kissing scene, albeit a very intense one. And it's in the film because it's in the book. And the film in the US is PG13 so prudes could always have given it a miss if they get hot under the collar over a wee bit of snogging.

Hermione always seems to throw herself into Harry's arms and not Ron's. Only in DH she kind of threw herself into Ron lol I think Harry and Hermione have shared many pretty and/or intense moments together and they deserved each other better. Maybe JK wanted to not be obvious or something when choosing the couples when she suddenly put Harry with Ginny... Even the way he fell for her was stupid in my opinion.

I'm seriously considering not watching Part 2 of the Deathly Hallows just so I don't have to see Ron kiss Hermione... It is kind of sad that it is a horcrux that shows us how it should have been.. but I'll take what I can get and imagine my own end.

I still think Hermione is best for Harry. Ginny seemed like a last minute installment or something. All those years together kinda makes you wish Harry&Hermione would end up together. *FOR ME* Ginny really lacks personality. Her relationship with Harry was't really tested that much.

But as for you saying that she lacks personality.... huh? Ginny doesn't have nearly as big a role as Hermione, but you do get quite a picture of her character. She's actually more outgoing and adventurous than Hermione, as she plays Quidditich and plays pranks.
At any rate, I think H/H too nerdy a couple....

Their relationship was never developed at all. Ginny was just invisible in the background for five years and then in the sixth book: BAM! Harry was spontaneously head over heels for her. I mean...whaaat? We don't even know much about her, or nothing at all. Hermione, Ron, Neville, they're characters we know.
Although I don't completely dislike the Ron & Hermione relationship, I do think (and will always think) Harry and Hermione should have ended up together.

@Selumgirl NOT in the books, Ginny had MUCH more of a presence in the books. It's the movies that have completely screwed everything up. They've gone downhill steadily since OOTP, in my opinion, because no one is given enough time to be a fully fleshed-out character anymore. Tonks, Lupin, Ginny, Cho, the rest of the Weasleys, heck, even Sirius, Hagrid, and the rest of the Hogwarts faculty have sort of been pushed aside. It's insulting to someone like me who's a bit of a book purist.

@ladycplum I understand your outrage, I am a big fan of the books as well. But I can say that I still found Ginny's character to be too bland, even in the books (compared to ther characters who were shown and developed as three-dimentional).
And as for Book vs. movie, though I agree that they could have done a better jod with the adaptation, one must understand that they are different languages with dif resources to tell a story. You can never expect to get the depth and feeling in the movie.

@Selumgirl well if you read the books, i think at some point JK Rowling thought that as well, but as the story developed i think she was kinda like... ok well no, let's flip the story a little bit, you know, unexpected things kinda gives "taste" to the storyline, and at some points when i was reading the books i was like nahhh it's going to be harry/hermione, but suddenly something happens and you're like ok no, it's going to be hermione/ron and so on xD.
